Hello Ladies!
I amtrying to figure this out. CanI use AVC right afrter Shampooing and right before Deep condtioning???? Do I leave the ACV in? do I rinse???

HELP!!!:ohwell:

TIA

SJ:drunk:

I live in a hard water area so I ACV rinse after I rinse out the DC then I apply my leave-in condish.

ETA: I leave the ACV rinse in but it's very diluted (0.5-1Tbs ACV per 1 cup of water)

From what I understand, the whole point of ACV is to make the cuticles lie smooth and flat, and to help correct porosity. If you ACV before you DC, water, conditioner, and manipulation is just going to lift your cuticles again.

I always tell people to do it as the very last thing. And you don't rinse it out. Hopefully Nonie will chime in since she's been doing ACV rinses for so long.

I think it matters what you want to accomplish. An ACV purpose is to restore the natural acidity of the hair. So there is nothing wrong with doing an ACV rinse before you dc but if you rinse it out and if your dc is not acidic than you will kind of undo your work. I do an ACV as my last step and I don't rinse it out.

I read that for oily hair, an ACV rinse was recommended after conditioning whilst for dry hair it was recommended after shampooing but before deep conditioning. I believe that rinsing it out or leaving it in is optional although I have never left it in myself

I am with these ladies. I do ACV as the last step of my wash so that my hair cuticles are closed and strands smooth and my hair is left at an acidic pH. I also think of this as locking in the goodness of conditioning (or DCing), which is why I do it after. I do not rinse it out.

I know some people prefer to do it before conditioning, and they are happy with that. (I think Allandra might do it after her shampoo but before conditioning.) I, on the other hand, like for my cuticles to be open when I'm conditioning and then closed afterwards to seal the deal.

Try it both ways and see which you prefer, Lucky's Mom.

Thanks a bunch Nonie!!!

Thanks for the information. I will try it after deep conditioning soon to see which works better for me

I use to do ACV as a clarifying wash, then condition. I will have to try it as a the last step instead of the first. But it does such a good job of cleansing the hair without stripping. And combing through was a breeze. :yep:

I do acv rinse as my final step and I dont rinse it out...btw I use 1 tbsp of avc for 2 cups of H2O...everyone's needs are different though...maybe you should try it before dc and after dc to see which yields a better result:yep:...HTH!

Here's an interesting post on ACV. The last paragraph goes more into detail about AVC and porosity. It takes a slightly different opinion on how people on hairboards (including me before reading this!!!) normally think about cuticles.

Most are of the opinion that there is a positive, linear relationship between extent of cuticle raising and pH i.e. there is a constant change in the raising of the cuticle, as pH increases. This article says that there is actually little difference in cuticle raising over a large range of pH, specifically from pH 3 (around the pH of ACV) and pH 7 (pH of water) ... mind you, most people dilute this stuff with water, so the resulting pH of the ACV mix is usually closer to water anyway.

.... If I've lost anyone, this would suggest that the ACV mix doesn't really "open" or "close" the cuticle in the sense that we've been talking about it.

Urban thanks for the link to that article. I like how they based answers on science rather and anecdotal evidence.

WTF! Ladies be careful clicking on the link Urban posted. I tried to close the page and it opened about 50 more pages. :(

I think there's something wrong with your computer. I've seen this blog linked on this forumm quite a few times and I've never seen anyone complain. I've just opened the link without any problem and so did another person in this thread.

Can anyone tell me why we acv? I did it three days ago after DC
someone here told me I could ACV to keep the DC for leaving a residue.

Yeah, you can do it that way and get similar affects. If you want to you can allow it to sit on your hair for a few minutes, maybe mixing your ACV with conditioner instead of water, and rinsing it out after a few minutes.
