Snake Oil..for hair breakage.

I am not mad at anyone wanting to try something new, but I don't think there is a need for some off the wall oil or product to combat hair breakage or to make hair grow (if you already have pretty healthy hair growth anyway). I think there are too many of us that think there are "miracles in a bottle" when you really don't need that at all.

If someone is battling hair breakage, I doubt an oil will fix it. There is something else deeper that needs to be addressed. So even if this snake oil does have nourishing properties, doesn't emu oil, coconut oil, hemp seed oil, bhringraj oil, castor oil, and all the others? They hardly help with breakage though.

I would spend my money on something else like a nice conditioner or moisturizer. I think one of those may help with breakage more then the ...snake oil. :look:

I know this is an old thread that really didnt get far but someone I know was asking about snake oil so I came here to see if anybody else uses it. I don't see why so many people are making a big deal about it being used for your hair. Its just an oil from a snake. I guess it falls under the category with that whale sperm conditioner and that placenta treatment that some people use in thier hair.

I have a close friend in Egypt who uses it for hair too and there is no voodoo involved at all. It's just an oil that prevents breakage and promotes growth too. She could have used something else but she choose that. Its just another natural oil from a "real" natural source. No made up ingrediants to put it together just plain snake oil. You'd be surprised at the benefits of using the oil for your hair. It's just like anything else around here, you either use it or you don't. Let's not be so harsh towards each other.

So what part of a snake's body does the oil come from? Does your fried use the tablet that's been mentioned here?

While reading this whole thread, I kept asking myself this. Not that I would ever use snake oil, cuz I most certainly would not.

Honestly I can't answer that question for you:perplexed. I have no idea what part of the snake the oil comes from.I dont use it so I wasnt going to investigate it. She just told me about it one day and how good it was for her hair. She said she uses the one with the cobra on the bottle. I think its the same one the OP mentioned. She really liked it but I'm not big on oils for my hair anyway. I only use my Coconut Custard Pomade which has coconut oil in it.

Maybe someone else knows what part of the snake the oil comes from.

This is a picture of the one she uses. I tried to find more info on it but all I keep reading is its for balding and stopping hair fall.

This oil Arab women use it, it is known for many benefits which include hair growth, cures dandruff, cures hair breakage and changes hair texture.

I'd say if you love your curls then don't use this oil because it will get rid of your curls and just leaves little to no curl.

I have used this oil in the past, as with anything good you have to use it for a while to see results but I stopped coz I had no care for hair back in the days, yet now that I care for hair I still don't use it coz my hair curls is the most important thing I love about my hair

As to hair breakage, there is many ways to care for hair and heal your hair breakage beside this oil =) but if anyone go and gets it then please share with us ladies.. Thanks

Ladies
sorry to say its not a joke all of the women here in egypt use it in their hair along w/ casor, amla, mink, jajoba, vit E, vitika, almond and cocoanut oil they sell them all in the pharnacies pure.

But when I first seen it as well I just breezed right by it untill I ask an egyptian women about it and she told me all of them use it and they have hair to the floor no lie :yep::yep:

Ok so...where can we purchase this oil online???:look:

I have a friend who is from iran. The bottle shown in this thread matches the description of what she told me.

She mentioned that the oil is made from the skin of the snake( cobra or boa ) can't remember. They take the skin and leave it in the sun.. It produces an oil that is extracted from the skin and voila...there's your hair oil.( I imagine it would be the equivalent of leave a thin slice of salami and the oil come out and just sits there.)

Now where can I purchase this oil online? Anyone in here got a little stash they wanna sell? ...:look: I'm sure we can work something out.

One more question.... is this the type of oil that if you stop using your hair falls?

From Wikipedia:
Snake oil originally came from China, where it is called shéyóu (蛇油). There, it was used as a remedy for inflammation and pain in rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, and other similar conditions. Snake oil is still used as a pain reliever in China. Fats and oils from snakes are higher in eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) than other sources, so snake oil was actually a plausible remedy for joint pain as these are thought to have inflammation-reducing properties. Snake oil is still sold in traditional Chinese pharmacy stores.

Snake fat also played a role in ancient Egyptian medicine, mixed with the fats of lion, hippopotamus, crocodile, tomcat, and Nubian ibex into a homogenous mass believed to cause bald men to grow hair.
