Hi ladies, I have a couple of questions about Indigo. I'm supposed to be hennaing my sisters hair this weekend. I hennaed my hair last week and told her how strong my hair felt and she said that she wanted to try but she wanted her hair to be blue black instead of red. Now my question is this, do I have to put the henna on first or can I just put on the indigo. I've done a lot of searching on the board but it seems like most people who were using indigo only wanted their hair to be black but what extra steps do I need to take for the hair to be blue black? Ladies, thanks in advance for any advice you can offer. :yep:

Msa, thanks much!!!!! I didn't see the above threads when I was searching. This so a huge help, I really appreciate it. :yep:

Best searching method is to use google...to get these threads I typed in: indigo site:longhaircareforum.com

It's much easier to get threads that way. Sometimes you do have to be creative with your search terms though. But I find it to be easier and faster.

Your right I'm definitely going to try that next time.

Samory07. I responded to your question in the other Indigo Thread. Hopefully you have received your answers. But I Henna'd first and then Applied the Indigo on damp freshly Henna'd Hair. I would also recommend that you add about a Teaspoon of Salt into your Indigo Mixture before applying. The Salt helps to darken the Indigo especially since you are trying to achieve that Blue-Black Color for Your Sister.

I went to my local indian stores and they did not have indigo. They had Indica which are small packts of a dye. I didn't get it because I didn't know much about it. Finding local Indigo is like searching for the holy grail. People act like the don't know anything about it and never seen it. LAWD! It's expensive online.

More tips:
-Apply the indigo mixture THICK! Don't be skimpy.

-I used to apply Indigo on wet hair that has been henna'ed. But now I put it on damp, 50% dry hair. The result has been longer lasting color.

-Adding salt does work! 1tsp per 100g.

-Do not wait for the dye to release. Apply the mixture as SOON as you mix it. Do not store unused dye

-wear gloves even while rinsing the dye out.

After ordering it on -line, I went to an Indian Store not to far from my house, to see if they had it cheaper. And you're right, they acted like they did not know what it was or what I was talking about? And they kept looking:perplexed And they kept pointing to something else, So I have stuck with Purchasing it On Line.

However, the pack I ordered will last me a long time, so I don't mind. And I know I am getting what I asked for and not looked at like::perplexed So it's worth it.

So how did you determine how much is enough for your hair? How many grams? How long is your hair? I'm layered at APL and BSL.

My Hair is short. You would probably need 200gms. You should look on mehandi.com They give you a whole Tutorial on-line for free that you can look at it and see what you're getting. And how it looks mixed up and the whole 9. It's very graphic.

The one I purchased which was Body Art Quality for African American Relaxed, damaged, chemically treated and Locs/Braids. The Henna was extremely finely sifted and super easy to rinse out. It is very easy to use. I bought 100gms of the Henna and 100gms of the Indigo, although I only used about 1/3 of the Henna. I did not need that much. You are only using the Henna Stain in your Hair so the Indigo will take. You need that base.

I used more of the Indigo because I wanted my Hair darker. Especially the Grey. And it gave me Superior Grey Coverage that Lasts w/o rinsing out every time you wash. And I agree with all those other 1,000 Henna Threads, the More you Do it, The Better You Hair looks. And since it is a Plant, no worries about chemicals or anything like that. Just strong, shiny, dark hair.

I used henna for the first time last month with the indigo...My hair turned out beautiful and the grey has just started showing again this last week. This stuff is awesome, makes the hair feel stronger. She'll love it.

You know that now you can just reapply the Indigo? I have reapplied the Indigo twice and with each application, the color looked richer & richer.
