I thought relaxer were supposed to make the hair drier and weaker

Ok, I know this sounds silly but my relaxed hair is thicker than the hair that comes from the scalp. My newgrowth always seems so,... well... fine. I love natural hair on other people though-- it just isn't for me. I love how everyone on this board has different textures.

Do you do the protein step before neutralizing?

For me relaxed equals weak. And I tried phyto, lye, and no lye. Each time I went natural and relaxed again (because of impatience of not seeing my natural hair grow like straight hair which shows the length), my hair dried out and broke off. My natural hair feels so soft and healthy. When I'm ready to straighten I'll use heat.

I am sorry this happened to you. Like I said relaxers are not for all heads. But be careful with the heat also, because if your problem is thin hair, the heat can be as damaging as the relaxer. Try to have it done professionally though... Happy hair growing
