I am about to try this!!! THANKS for posting. I am almost 13 months post relaxer and I believe the oil would be great for my NG and help to reduce some of my shedding that I am having with my transition.

Now i just gotta find the Magic soap. Do you know where to get it?
 
Castile soap has been around forever...lots of naturals use it.

It works really well, and it does need to be diluted. I usually dilute it with only water, but adding some oil or conditioner is helpful as well. And it lasts longer.

If you do a search I'm sure a lot of threads will pop up.

Dr. Bronner's can be found at whole foods and other health stores, as well as target.
 
I saw this a while back, and have been using this method ever since. I love it! It doesn't strip my hair, yet it's clean, and it keeps my new growth softer, which really helps with stretching my relaxers. Even my husband loves it and uses it. Which says a lot because he hated to shampoo his hair, hated the dryness associated with it.

OHHHHHHH, I had read about Castille soap, but didn't know this was the same thing. :perplexed I think my grocery store has it in the health section. Picking some up tomorrow...:yep:

I use a mixture of coconut oil, evoo, and avocado oil (2ounces). Then I add the castile soap (2 ounces). The video does not call for it, but I also add 1 ounce of aloe vera juice, and just fill the rest of the bottle with distilled water. This is for the large bottle (16 ounces I believe) that she used in the vid.

EVOO is good...it's moisturizing by itself and it's easy to mix with. And you can use as much or as little water as you want. It just depends on your hair. I used to do 1/4 castile soap and 3/4 water...or some soap, water, and then pour some evoo in without measuring.
 
I've been using a similar mixture since I saw this video and my hair loves it! My hair is so moisturized and clean when I use this mixture. It's replaced shampoo for me since my beloved Cream of Nature was discontinued. I use 2 oz of the castile soap, 2 oz of coconut oil and jojoba oil, and then water....basically just like Traycee's mixture.

I got my castile soap from www.vitacost.com . HTH!
 
I use dr woods black soap instead of dr bronners, you can purchase both at iherb.com, i add coconut oil to mine. i love it so much and i love the way it smells.

Do you actually use it like shampoo (like 1 oz or so at a time) or is it like a rinse where you use a lot/whole bottle of mix?

If you don't use the whole bottle up, do you just store it in the shower like shampoo?
 
I'm thinking of trying this with coconut oil. I was looking for a good moisturizing shampoo I love making concoctions. I'm going to give this a try too.
 
When I saw the video last month I made a small batch on the following wash day. It is really great, because in essence it is a head to toe non drying cleanser. It is now in the rotation. Since I use so little shampoo, I really like that you can make only the amount needed. I've never used Dr. Woods, but I'm told it's comparable. I believe both brands can also be purchase on Amazon. HHG!
 
Wow! I just love her videos! She is so smart and always gives out such wonderful tips. No wonder she has such beautiful hair.

I'm going to try this with some olive oil.

Not everyone has heard about it so it's new to them. I've only been learning to take care of my hair for less than 6 months so everything I come across is new, even if there are a billion people out there doing it already. I hope the people who haven't known about it will benefit from it just like intend to do.

Well when I used castile soap, I used it for everything (just like it says on the bottle, lol). I would basically take a new bottle, pour some of the soap in an old bottle, pour in some water and some oil (sometimes honey as well), and shake it up. I would leave the mix in the shower, but I used it to shampoo, wash my body with, clean the shower with, wash my satin caps/scarves, etc. etc.

You use it just like any othe soap, definitely not the whole bottle.

And, castile can be very drying so make sure to dilute. I can't use castile on my body or hair without diluting it first. You'll have to figure out the mixture that works well for you, but adding some water, oil, and honey works pretty good.
 
I've seen this video before. I've known about it for a minute but I've just decided to try it. My skin is so sensitive that I've got to do something. Most shampoos make me itch, including my fave CON.

I was looking for this video. She's such a really nice and classy lady. Thanks for posting. :yep:

Yeah, I use it just like shampoo. I will pour enough to suffice and shampoo like usual. I'll store the rest in the shower or elsewhere until I'm ready to "shampoo" again. I don't use the whole bottle. I use it exactly like I use regular shampoo. It's much more watery than regular shampoo so I squeeze directly on my roots. HTH!
 
I tried this last week and I don't think I put enough water in the mix to dilute it. My hair felt really dry the next day even after I did a steam treatment following the Dr. Bronners. I did like how my hair felt clean afterwards so I think I will try it again but use more water to dilute it.
 
I saw a recipe for this a long time ago but the recipe called for the addition of honey as well as oil. I kinda liked that idea and may use this in rotation along with Ida's shampoo bars. That I will never give up!

:nono::nono: I did not think I was being rude........... I was saying that it is an old method, and that I have been doing it for 4 years. Additionally, there have been posts about it before. That is all.

You really need to make sure you dilute it with enough water. I am a 4B natural and was using it when I initially wanted to stop using shampoos, it dried my hair out because I was not diluting it enough.

With this method and now understanding the oils she put in there particularly coconut and avocado being oils that penetrate the shaft of the hair versus coating it this mixture makes sense.
