I'm at the end of my 14 week stretch and I had my hair straightened and I cowashed itso the ng would revert back to its natural state.

This weekend in NYC is gonna be beautifullll and I wanna have my hair down!

Soo is this a bad idea?

...- didn't scrub my scalp to reduce burnin n I coat my pre-relaxed hair with condish.

I've done it before but I don't recommend it. Even w/ all the coating and non scalp scrubbing ...my scalp was still very much irritated. Just my opinion

The relaxer might not 'take' and you might end up underprocessed as it's a good idea to make sure your hair is clean (i.e. shampoo washed or clarified) before you get a touch up.

In your case, you cowashed so that might be a problem.

It all depends on who is doing your relaxer. The woman who does my hair is gifted, seriously. I could scratch my head the day before with a rake and wash after, and it does not burn. I also do not get those relaxer scabs. When the owner of the salon did mine. I could have not scratched for a week and not shampooed for a week, applied Vaseline to my skin and scalp and my head would burn and get those scabs. It's all in the hands. Good luck!!!

I've always heard that it is a bad idea to do that. It can even result in your hair breaking off.

I've been relaxing my hair for too many years and most stylist suggest you don't wash the hair prior to relaxing. I called my stylist and she stated, the relaxer will burn too quickly. My thoughts, the relaxer doesn't have any oil or protectant and the chemical process will penetrate the scalp, which could lead to burning. A good analogy would be drinking "Grey Goose" without cranberry juice. It would go straight to the head. Smile I hope that helps.

I believe I'm the only person on this board that washes the day before or the day of the relaxer. I see nothing wrong with it.

No you're not. I wash my hair the day before my relaxer faithfully. It processes more evenly and my head burns less. I don't scratch my scalp when I shampoo, I just use the pads of my fingers.

Wow, with a rake? :lachen:

Glad I'm not. My scalp doesn't burn when I wash before I relax. When I have waited a couple of days I have ended up with a head full of sores.:nono:

I did this once and my scalp was on FIRE! I usually don't have any burning when relaxing except maybe a spot or two and I make sure to rinse those spots like a madwoman. But when I washed the day before I couldn't even keep the relaxer in my hair for the full 22 minutes and ended up underprocessed. Since I don't do correctives, I was out of luck.

It might be best not to take the risk hun; they'll be plenty more gorgeous weekends to come in NY I'm sure. :)

ITA...your pores will still be open and you may get scalp irritation and chemical burns.

If you have a super tough scalp, go for it! There are a few members who wash the day before and the day of their relaxer with no problems. It all depends on the person :yep:

Just make sure you apply a scalp protectant beforehand :)
