Soft hood bonnet dryers?

I have one, it's by Caruso. It's a nice sleek little unit and packs up nicely (even for travel), no need to hold on to a regular blow dryer through the process. Only problem is getting it over those big arse rollers. I have to have the Mister help me otherwise I'm knocking into them. It does a good job though, doesn't leave you wet in spots, so it's a nice even dry. If I turn it up to high I only leave it on for about 10 mins, then turn it down to medium. Most often though I'm able to do medium for 10 mins and low for the rest of the time and still dry in under 90 mins. /images/graemlins/up.gif

I swear by mine.....I have one by GE that is probably 20 years old or older.....they are the best....they were made to cover the big rollers....you can even sleep in them....when mine breaks or is on the blink.....I start asking older women if they have one at home....I also start going to thrift stores.....don't worry about germs...you can actually wash the bonnet on gentle cycle, w/ a little bleach,in your washing machine and air dry!!!!

I've seen those vintage dryers on ebay and wondered about second hand use, but w/this info I will worry no more /images/graemlins/wink.gif .

bump, i'm looking for a good soft bonnet. my carel sucks.
here's a link to another one http://www.metrobeauty.com/showitem.cfm?catnum=60&parentcatnum=6&itemnum=2647. i wonder if these would do a much better job of drying hair completely and evenly than regular soft bonnet dryers since a handheld blow dryer has more watts and gets hotter than a hard bonnet or soft bonnet dryer.

btw kitty i've never seen a soft bonnet dryer with more than 400 watts.i've heard they go as high as 425.

ok i decided to get one. i just took the bonnet part off my carel dryer and held it onto my hand held dryer and it got much hotter and the heat was everywhere, so i know it'll get my rollerset dry much quicker. now where can i purchase one?? i dont want to get it online since shipping and handling will probably cost as much if not more than the product itself. i wonder if sally's carries it.

thank you soooo much for replying chica. i cant wait to get one. i have a couple questions though.
do you only use it for for 15 min(i was planning to sit under there for an hour or more to get rollersets dry)?? thats what the instructions say. do you use it for rollersetting? if so what color rollers do you use? i'm afraid my grey rollers wont fit under it. hopefully it's roomy enough. anddddd one more question do you only use the low setting on your dryer?? i was planning to use high.

thanks guys. i want to use one to do my roller sets. I don't have the space for a full size hard hood dryer. The only think i am worried about is that the Lord gave me a big head and with the rollers on, i need to make sure there is plenty of room for the hot air to circulate.

I think I have the same type! The GE soft bonnet vintage hair dryer...I got mine off ebay for 10 bucks...I love it, plenty of room for big rollers, and dries my hair pretty fast...

10?? you got lucky. thoe things go for much higher. i tried to get one but the bids were always 25+. i couldnt see myself buying a used 30 plus years old product for that much. if i find one cheaper i might get one though.

i found the bonnet attachment at sally's though. i'm doing a rollerset tomorrow or sat, cant wait to see how it works.

I love my soft bonnet dryer ! It's so convenient to use - I'll usually use mine after I rollerset my hair. You can take napps with it on ,and move around with it . I have a Carel bonnet dryer , it usually takes an hour and a half to completely dry my hair.

BrEE, I use the 1.5 inch purple rollers when I rollerset my hair and they fit well under the dryer. I sit under it for a hour or so. I have a medium setting on my blowdryer that I use. After my hair is dry I sit under the dryer for about 15 mins. using the cool shot, just to lock in my curls.

be careful w/the ones that you attach to your hair dryer. my friend had one and was holding it at the wrong angle--she ended up burning a whole through the hose!!

Mine is by Vidal Sassoon, but I've also had one by Lady Dazey. I paid less than $20 each. I use mine for rollersets and hot oil treatments. For my rollersets, it usually takes an hour to an hour and a half to dry completely.

I know there was a post around a few days back about this.
does anyone know if these are any good? I want SOFT BONNET DRYER

Mine is a compact unit named "Lady Carel" that I got from Sally's. It is very convenient and does a good job of drying the hair, I discovered recently. I used to use my hard hat standing dryer for drying my hair exclusively, but this is more comfortable since I can sit in my wing chair in my bedroom instead of a hard chair. I also use it all the time for deep conditioning. I recommend it.

I have one but haven't used it in years. I keep it mainly for backup in case my hard hood dryer breaks and I can't get to the store to replace it. I would not use it for weekly use only because it takes super long to dry my hair compared to the hard hood dryer.

Bump! Bump! Bump!

I agree. GE vintage dryers are the best! They cover the big rollers perfectly and it dries my hair very fast.

ok, so aside from the old school dryers (i think they're too hard to find), what other ones are good to use for roller sets? i have to use the grey rollers or larger and i have long hair

i checked ebay. there were only 4 for sale. one was missing parts, one had ridiculous shipping and the other 2 bids where too high for a 20 y/o used dryer. every time i look i get results like this and i've been looking for about 4 or 5 months now :(

My bonnet dryer always flies off my head when I do rollersets!! I have the Gold and Hot.
