That put
a smile on my face...

I am so happy that she takes the time to actually "learn these things". You both are taking a step in the right direction. Congratulations for helping break down wall and barriers!

Your straight shiny hair might be making her nervous. :yep: Like Oh no! Black women can have super straight long hair too!!!

I'm pretty suspect of yt women that I don't know these days.

HeHeHe! I enjoyed this thread because I get similar comments at work. A guy once ask me if I don't like my hairstyle. How come I change it everyday. lol.

I get this often at work too, at least when I go to the office, especially since my co-worker wouldn't take care of her hair, but i finally go through to her.....great thread.....we gotta try and enlighten them if we don't they'll just keep those stererotypes in their minds....

LOL - I had a yt rommate once in college and she asked to use my blow dryer. I handed it to her but told her she could take the comb attachement off if she wanted. She said "I don't even know what that IS!" LOL - I forgot that we do different things with our hair. We can definitely learn from each other. Good that she's asking and not just staying ignorant.

Its our job to keep the opposites (white folks) informed. I take my caucasian friend with me when I go to the BSS.

I can quiz her at any time
me: "what's my hair color?"
her: "1B"
me: "why havent I relaxed my hair?"
Her: "cause you're stretching?"
me: and why am I stretching?
her: "for thicker, stronger hair"

Good Girl!
She's my Holly Hood!
:yep::yep:

:lachen:i wouldn't dare take her to a bss yet. she wouldn't be able to take it. she'd probably walk in and go OMG WHAT IS ALL THIS STUFF! DO YOU GUYS REALLY USE IT? LOOK AT ALL THE HAIR AND ALL THE COLORS!!!!

Well, my husband is white and STILL asks me what's going on with my hair! Luckily, he didn't marry me for it. He says, "you're beautiful no matter what way you wear your hair." Awwww. I love that guy. :love2::love2::love2::love2:

that's great. chances are he'll NEVER know what's going on with our hair. we can barely figure out why it does what it does when it does it :lachen:

Both my two college roommates are white and I was watching TV with one of them.
We were watching some show and the woman on TV had beautiful APL 4a natural hair.
I could tell that my roommate was looking at my hair (as they so often do) and she says, "You should wear your hair like that"
Me: That's my goal, I like her hair alot
Roommate: It's so big and beautiful
Me: Yeah.
Roommate: So what would you have to do to get it like that?
Me: Go natural. I'm transitioning to natural right now though.
Roomate: *confused*
Me: Nevermind.
Roomate: You should definitely "grow it out"
Me: That's the plan.

She had me rollin!:lachen: Too much to explain and such little time. But I have found that white people really admire natural hair. It fascinates them.

My roommate in college was 1/2 japanese and 1/2 german. One day we were watching TV and she said "Beyonce has like...white girl hair" I was like :ohwell::nono: thinking she was joking, but she literally had no idea what kind of chemical yaki demons had to be put to work to get Beyonce's mane together. She figured it just grew out of her scalp that way. :lachen:

I have found that most white people are very envious of the thickness of my hair, and its versatility. Most people want hair the opposite of their own though.

My 50 yo caucasian boss has been getting schooled the past couple of years by me and a coworker. Black hair care really fascinates her and she always asks questions. She even watches youtube vids with me sometimes.

One weird thing is the yt's call everything a " haircut". I'll be rocking o phony pony and one of them will walk by and say " Nice haircut" Uh, my hair is a good 12 inches longer than it ws last week so why are you referring to this as a haircut. They say this all the time when I wear different styles.

I especially love the fact that they pay about $1000 for "hair extensions" (they never call them weaves) and act like it is some new exclusive treat. Shanaynay 'n dem been rocking weaves for years.

Yep!:lachen::yep: Mine too. He's so cute! But I don't have to worry about him being confused when I cowash every other day. None of the "you're washing your hair again?" stuff. But he doesn't get all the hair products. He teases me relentlessly, in public, while I'm buying conditioner.:spinning:

if asked I will compare a relaxer to hair color since most of them are familiar with that. You have to get your color "touched up" when your natural color grows in, and I have to get my relaxer "touched up" when my natural texture grows in.

I have one friend that is keeping close watch on my transitioning progress. She saw pics of my natural hair from a few years ago and demanded that I wear my hair that way. I explained that it was a "process" so now she follows up every few months like "Is the fro back?! When are you going to wear a fro?!"

Haha! Sounds like my white coworker/friend when ever she see's the "puffiness" as she likes to call it , she goes "yeah your hair is growing in, your going to need a relaxer soon"? and im like yup! She goes "then your going to wear your hair down for like a week then its going to be back up in a bun till your next touch up".:lachen::lachen: She knows the routine, she knows so much about black hair you wouldnt believe.
