i wet wrapped my hair after a touch up and my hair came out amazing. i think it will only come out good with a fresh perm. i had no breakage whatsoever. but then again, my hair is very short.

I've had the same results. Its so much easier on freshly relaxed hair.

IMO, wet wrapping is too risky, and it's a risk I wouldn't take.

However, I've seen it done on short hair. I don't consider your hair short by any means. I also don't think it would work well with a lot of new growth.

Don't chance it girl.

Cosigning. Also, my stylist always wrap my hair dry after taking down a fresh rollerset. I noticed since she started doing this, My wrap comes a whole lot bouncier and it lasts a very long time this way as well:yep:.

Not sure why wet wrapping would be too risky......unless you're really rough while doing it. I think wet wraps can trurn out really good if wrapped right......especially after a fresh relaxer.

I used to always do wet wraps...but the problem for me is it takes forever and a day to dry. I would do it on Friday evening, and not take it down until Monday morning. I tried to sit under the dryer and for some reason it comes out wavy...as opposed to 100% air drying. My hair is too long now so I have to rollerset.

Well in a follow up to this question, I have decided to personally forgo wet-wrapping because it just seems like too much manipulation for my fine strands. That paired with the fact that wrapping starts to really make my scalp sore after a while. :nono: I think it's a good option for short hair, but medium to long hair - not really.

When I wrap my hair when it's dry I pretty much only do cross wrapping. I get much better results, and no scalp soreness.

I loved wet wrapping, but I'd be cautious of it on lengths longer than APL. It seems great for APL and shorter. Anything longer may be too much.

I used to wet wrap my hair all the time and it got to BSL. It never really worked unless I had recently gotten a touch up, and I never used a brush, I just detangled with a wide tooth comb, then one with more narrow teeth to wrap, and smoothed my wet wrap with a fine tooth comb. I used to sit under the dryer for about an hour and let the rest airdry overnight.

Hmm...maybe that's why my wet wraps never came out that well. I always tried to use a brush to smooth.

Nay, but only because I don't know how to do it. :look:

Seriously, I can't wet wrap (or barely dry wrap :look:) but I used to rollerset my hair once a week and BRUSH each section of hair with a stiff brush instead of gently using a comb. My hair is very thick so I never knew that I was damaging it. Once I switched to a fine toothed seamless comb (Mason Pearson) and stopped brushing my wet hair, I was amazed at how my hair thickened up even more over time. So short answer, I think a lot of manipulation when your hair is wet (especially using combs with seams) can have a damaging effect over time.

Hmm, that's a thought. :scratchch

I have always had beyond BSL hair until I chopped it in college, and then again about 3 years ago. So long and thick hair = hard for me to wrap wet and a WHOLE LOT OF COMBING. :ohwell:

I say no to wet wrapping. For me its too much manipulation to my hair when it is in its weakest state. I prefer to bump or flat iron, then wrap.

I haven't wet-wrapped in years. I usually roller-set my hair and wrap my hair afterwards for a nice body-wrap. That way, I don't have to heat to curl my hair.

For me, it works so much better than doing a rollerset. The roller set always brings my hair out. I have to add that any curly style tangles my hair:nono: (i.e. braid out, twist out, roller sets) and this took months for me to realize and except. :perplexed

Even with buns, I have to blow dry my hair semi straight and then bun. If I try to simply bun freshly washed & detangled hair, its still turns into a knotted mess.

I have to point out, I don't wet wrap to get it straight but rather my hair dries so much better this way. (Air drying is a disaster)

So I wet wrap my hair the exact same way I wrap my hair at night. I add a few rollers on top and wrap using a shower comb.

I wrap half of it then put in a clip. At this point, I part and wrap smaller sections taking my time. I use a paddle brush to carefully smooth it down (don't use it much just toward the end). Lastly once its all wrapped, I use a rattail comb, and ever so lightly do a final smoothing to the top hairs, so the ends come out straight.

About 70% of if dries straight and it only requires a quick pass with the flat iron. The good things is, it takes 1/3 the time, I loose significantly less hair, its healthier and has bounce.

I'm sure technique and products play a big part in the results!

Like we always say, everything works differently for each individual.

IMHO

I saw this thread and immediately thought about your blog on Healthy Textures and your beautiful results, LOL! There was a comment on there about putting large rollers at the top or crown and wrapping the sides. I almost tried it this way today. I went ahead and did a full rollerset instead.

Foxie, I am sure your hair is going to look fab, can't wait to see your results!

I did this a few days ago and my hair came out great. My old stylist used to do my hair like this all the time.

I am bsl and I wet wrap all the time with no adverse effects. It helps to dry my hair straighter and quicker.

I have tried wet wraps many times, it doesn't damage my hair or anything, my hair just does not dry, when I comb it down the next day it is still soaking wet. So Nay for me

Im currently transitioning but when I was getting fresh relaxers I would wet wrap my hair. No breakage, no hairline gone. I would wake up in the morning and it would just lay right so I didnt even need to flat iron it. Just unwrap and walk out the door.

I agree with these ladies and I know this is an old thread lol... But I've wet wrapped BSL & Longer... It's the best way for me to air dry smooth and straight. When I wet wrap I do it in sections, my products in... It does take awhile to air dry but that's fine...It's perfect for someone doing a damp to dry flat iron. It comes out about 70-80 straight and that one quick flick with the flat iron gets it 100% right... It's healthy and faster since I need to multitask.

I agree, I love doing it on freshly relaxed hair , other than that, uh uh, no way, no how, lol

I also use Wrapping foam.

I still do them and love them. However, I will only do them up to the 4th week. Otherwise, to get it smooth, it's too much manipulation with the NG.

I used to wet wrap all the time, however, I wasn't a member on LHCF either. So I ripped thru my hair with a fine tooth comb every week, and my hair was THIN...I tried it a while back however, with my new thicker hair, and I couldnt wrap it to save my life! Too much manipulation, I was breaking strands all over the place even though I tried to be careful. So nay for me
