What are the rules.
How many times do I shampoo a week. Which shampoos are the best.
How many times do I condition.
How long do I wait between relaxers.
Which relaxers are the better ones.
What do I grease my scalp with.
What the are you guys doing with EVOO (huh) and when?
What do I do to keep frizz at bay.
Does anyone scrunch the hair or wash and go
Are the shampoos made for caucasians just as good to use on our hair.
What should I stop doing to my hair.

I love the roller setting look but what do I do with those roller bumps at the roots. HELP PLEASE I AM so LOST:wallbash:

I have relaxed hair to the top of my shoulder that continues to break. It does not have a bulb on it when I examine it. HELP ALL ADVICE IS WELCOMED

:grin:Hi!! Welcome to the board!! I'm a newbie, but I'llt ry to help you as best as I can! HTH!
OMG my brain is going to bust.

What are the rules.
How many times do I shampoo a week. Which shampoos are the best.
Many people have different regimens, but since shampoo is drying, many people on this board Shampoo once a Week
How many times do I condition.
Co-washing is when you wash your hair with conditioners only. Many people try to do this 1-2 a week, but you have to see what works for you. It might be too much manipulation for your strands. I personally shampoo once a week (on Friday) and then Cowash once a week (on Wednesday).
How long do I wait between relaxers.
Like before, you have to listen to your hair. I would wait 6-8 weeks.
Which relaxers are the better ones.
Phyto is WONDERFUL...but it's a little pricey. :perplexed ORS and Cantuno lye are good in my opinion.
What do I grease my scalp with.
You really don't need to "grease" your scalp. That's an African American myth. You should keep yoru hair properly moisturized and seal it with oil though. Remember a little goes a long way. My moisturizers are ORS Olive Oil (in a jar) and I seal with EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil)
What the are you guys doing with EVOO (huh) and when?
I use it to seal my ends, or you can use it as a pre poo. This is whatever you do to yoru hair beore you shampoo it.
It can be used to seal your ends or it (YUP!)
What do I do to keep frizz at bay.
Hmm...I'll let the ladies answer this. I don't have too much frizz
Does anyone scrunch the hair or wash and go
Yeah many ladies do! Just use the search feature or go to google.com and type whatever you want to know then space site:longhaircareforum.
Ex.(Wash and Go site:longhaircareforum.com)
Are the shampoos made for caucasians just as good to use on our hair.
There is no such thing as caucasion and black or ethnic shampoo. Poo si Poo
What should I stop doing to my hair.
PINK OIL is a no no lol. Mineral Oil in products is a no no. Try to minimize using the flat iron and curling irons. These are direct heat. Indirect heat such as hood dryers are better.

I love the roller setting look but what do I do with those roller bumps at the roots. HELP PLEASE I AM so LOST:wallbash:
Using clips should end this problem. Or maybe you're not rolling tightly enough to the scalp. I sugest you find Macheriamour at healthytextures.com and read up on tutorials. They helped me a LOT

I have relaxed hair to the top of my shoulder that continues to break. It does not have a bulb on it when I examine it. HELP ALL ADVICE IS WELCOMED

They only rule you need to concern yourself with is Doing what works for you.

There are tons of ladies here and we all do a variety of things with good results. No two heads are the exact same so you can't treat them the same. You are going to have to experiment to find what works for YOU:yep:

I suggest starting a photo journal to document your hair progress.
This will also help you keep track of what is or is not working.

If you are shoulder length right now. You should probably start keeping your hair up and protected for a while while it grows past your shoulders. We call this a protective style. Usually a bun or a braid or a french roll.

Also are you sleeping in a satin or silk scarf or bonnet at night. This will help protect your hair too.

Try not to get too overwhelmed here.
There is soooo much info and there is no 1 right answer. You can't go buy everything you hear us raving about. #1 you'll be broke #2 you'll be more confused than you were when you started.

Also, don't be shy about sending Privare MEssages (PM's) to specific people to seek information. Sometimes you can get better info that way than if you just post in a thread and hope someone addressed your concerns.
We are all pretty friendly and willing to help however we can.

Welcome and I hope you enjoy your membership.:hiya:

IA with Ms. Plain Jane. I have yet to see two identical regimens. I started by finding ladies who had a similar hair type as me and those who started at NL (my starting length) but have grown and retained their length to APL or longer.

It really is trial and error but don't run yourself ragged. I stick to 4 things: Moisture, Protein, Protective Styles, and Clean Hair. How and with what products I accomplish these has changed but I remember to at least incorporate these steps.

tifill, welcome to the board! Information overload is very common in the beginning :) Just keep it simple right now:Shampoo and dc once a week.Moisturize and wear protective styles daily. That's all you need, all the other stuff we do is just extra credit

Great advice, slow and easy is the way to go-'cause the head does:spinning: in the beginning after seeing all the beautiful hair here. Tifill, how's the journey been? Your post is a year old now.

I didn't even notice how old this was!

Chameiltress, why on earth did you bump this? :lachen:

The main rule is there is no specific rule... But I can tell you what I do but that does not mean it will work for you... hope that helps

How many times do I shampoo a week.
I shampoo once a week and it is just enough for me
Which shampoos are the best.
I use Cream of nature or Joico Moisture Recovery mostly... and sometimes I use Suave and Shikakai bar to clarify.
How many times do I condition.
Just once with either Aphogee 2 min reconstructor or Joico Moisture Recovery
How long do I wait between relaxers.
At least 12 weeks
Which relaxers are the better ones.
I've tried ORS Olive oil lately and really liked it...it is cheap one though, you can go fancy with Mizani or phyto, but I have never tried them.
What do I grease my scalp with.
I don't grease my scalp, but I use some light oils like jojoba and coconut oil on my scap sometimes.
What the are you guys doing with EVOO (huh) and when?
I do olive oil on my hair mixed with other things

Welcome aboard!!!:yep:

I couldn't agree more with Ms. PlainJane. The "rule" is that there are no rules. Do what works for you!
