I Can't Do This Super Simple Hair Do.....

I didn't have time to do another style after I took my knots down. I was already running late for church, so I just put my hair in a ponytail. I just added the pics from my bantu knot adventure to my fotki. Below are some of the pics.

I thought the knots looked okay at this point and I was excited for the outcome.

Then I took them out, fluffed, and got this. Maybe I was too rough when I fluffed them out. :ohwell:

Umm what are you talking about? Your bantu knot out looks great! And your hair is just getting so long.

If you had too much frizziness it may have been because you manipulated too much when you were separating them. Also, was your hair completely dry?

Did you two strand twist first? That's how I always do mine because it comes out much better and it's easier to separate.

I can't do a wrap to save my life and I've only been able to do the Southerntease bun once. That style is so easy, but my bun always looks awful. :ohwell:

I can't cornrow and it's frustrating since I have a daughter. No matter how many tutorials and videos I watch, my hands can't do it. I also can barely braid but can't get the beads on LOL.

Thanks for making this thread. I finally came to terms with what I cannot do a few days ago. :)

I can't do the SouthernTease Bun. :wallbash: I think it's because of my layers. It's so simple, I couldn't believe it wouldn't turn out right. :nono:

Thank you for the compliments. :)

Now that you mention it, I got part of my hair damp by accident when I showered in the morning. And I never thougght to do twists then put the knots it. I only saw one tutorial on how to do them on youtube and I think they just twirled them around. But doing twists does sound like it would be easier to take down. It was hard to unravel many of the sections, especially when I got to the ends. And then I noticed my hair getting frizzy. Also, I didn't take a pic of the front but my hair was leaning forward in a weird way (you can kinda see it in the pic).

Do you wrap your knots in any particular diretction so the fall nice when undone? Do you wrap in the same direction? I twirled and wrapped in any old direction because I didn't think it mattered.

I have trouble rollar setting some stylist have told me that my hair is so thick that they have to use the brick lay technique for it to come out right. Rollar wraps are a no go for me cause I always come out looking like a poodle no mater who does the rolling.

I can't braid, do bantu twists, pin curls, roll my own hair, flat twist... I also can't wrap my hair to save my life lol

I can't flat twist to save my life .

Ditto. I probably could learn if I put some effort but the thought that I would not be able to keep them in for a week w/o needing to redo them discourages me from trying. I'm such a lazy bum that I like hairstyles that can last a long time if I didn't feel like bothering with them. Hence cornrows, twists, extension singles....

I can't braid. My mom is an amazing braider, who, back in the day, used to braids peoples names into their hair and stuff like that. She tried to teach me, but I just don't have the manual dexterity. And my white friends used to ask me to braid their hair because apparently it's in our genetic code as black people to know how to do cornrows.

You Know!? My white friend in high school made me feel so ashamed due to my lack of styling prowess. She had super thick hair and wanted to know if I could cornrow. I said no. "What? I never met a black girl who couldn't cornrow". Then she asked if I would put her hair in a ponytail for her (I think she was just being lazy) and for the life of me I couldn't get her hair to stay in my hands. It just was slippin' out left and right. She finally snatched the hair scrunchie from me and said "Nevermind. Man, you really can't do hair can you" and walked away . What did she expect? I wore my hair the same way every day in high school.

never been able to cornrow.....

and the one time I tried a bantu-knot out, i came out looking like buckwheat after a bad curly perm :hair:

I think they all end up going the same direction, but not on purpose. I don't think it really matters though. Twisting first should help. I've always done themt hat way but when I tried it without twisting my hair got soooo tangled I had to wash it to get the knots out.

Also, part your hair in front in whatever way you want to wear it. And then make sure you twist the hair in whatever direction you want the hair to go when you take it out. That should make it a bit better.

I'm going to try and convince someone to do it outside before it gets cold lol. It may just end up being me, a mirror and a fan in the backyard though.

LOL oh okay, because if you were going to a salon i would've asked you where you're getting it done because I don't know anyone in tdot who does it. Oh well

I can't rollerset at ALL. HAM City whenever I try. I got Macherie Amour's DVD and everything... :nono: :clown:

I can do a mean wrap, though. :yep: The trick is to get the circle on top of your head as small, smooth & tight as possible.

whew. so i dont feel soo bad. i can't cornrow/flattwist/frenchbraid or rollerset either. and apparently cant do bantu knots either. i watched numerous videos, but it always comes out looking a mess. :-( it took me forever to learn to wrap, but i finally figured that one out. guess its back to ponytails and buns.

I can kind of canerow :perplexed need a lot of practice but no one will let me practice on them. My mother and my older sisters are really good at it names and swirls and stuff.

I wish I could do box braids with extensions why do people make it look so easy then when you come to do it yourself you're left so dissapointed.:crying3:

cornrow, flat twist (although i deny this to myself) wrap straight hair (how else can you maintain it at night?!!!)

my hair comes out funky no matter what i try to do lol i would like to learn one style, just ONE that gives me consistant results *foaming at mouth*
