i guess I'm in this club. The thickness/courseness doesn't annoy me as much now that I only have about 5 inches of hair on my head BUT I'm one of those girls that always got "when are you gonna perm your hair" or "you need a perm". at first I would get upset/hurt/offended until I realized that only super perm could do anything for longer than maybe 1 week but that messed up my scalp. the one thing I did love though..is the body and beauty the thickness gave.
I'm looking forward to this same 'body' once I get more length now that I'm natural and I start rocking more twist/braid-outs. what I am dreading is the length of time to put my hair in twists/braids. my twist outs now take almost an hour (remember only about 5 inches of hair)...trying to put my hair in like 5 flat braids took almost an hour...the thickness was RIDICULOUS!!!
but i've grown to truly love my hair... and I'm falling in love with my growing afro. my only problem is keeping it soft. castor oil works on my dry hair to soften BUT I cowash in the morning and usually leave with my hair wet/moist.

Thick haired natural checkin in. I've been natural for a little over 2 yrs. I don't know what I'm going to do with my hair this summer. My first summer natural I co-washed just about daily and I did a puff. Last year was my year of twists. I don't know what I'm gonna do this summer. Now that my hair is APL, I can't wear it loose (in it's naturall state), because it will be hell come wash day. I've been wearing my hair straight so far this year.

Yea I let my subsciption run thru. I'm going to open it back up today though, just because of this thread.:yep:

Yeah. THis thread is making think I need to repay mines. :lachen:

You've described my hair to a tee. And just so you know, I am on the rope with you and am about to jump into a pool of creamy crack. :nono: My hair is in braids right now. I honestly don't know if I'll be natural anymore by the end of this year. The proud, stubborn part of me wants to wait and see until next year just so I can boast of having had natural hair for 10 years. We'll see. :ohwell:

10 YEARS..........WOW

Styling this BAA! I'm getting all natural two strand twists and will keep them for months at a time. Striaghten for a couple of weeks and back to the twists again. Sitting here looking like buck wheat right now....

HI, L.I.P.Y.T; 4a checking in with a mixture of fine and some coarse strands just a whole lot of them! My only concern is that as my hair gets longer I will not want to style it.

Another UBER thick natural checking in! My hair is super dense with thick and fine strands twirled about!!
I just dont understand it! I only have about 5 inches of HAIR!!! This is supposed to be the EASY time when its a twa. I cant even imagine what it'll be like this time next year!! For those that have been natural for years what has given you patience??
I was so pissed ( and broke) last week that I went to the beauty supply, bought some pony yaky hair, and put that mess in some "Homemade" Micro-Braids!! :lachen: Take that!! I dont want to be bothered for the next 2 months!!

oops..... Didnt mean to rant...... Sunscribing by the way lol

I have twisted my hair for the last six months; and I've worn my hair in a puff for 2 weeks while looking for someone I can trust to put some in for me.

That's one good thing about my thick hair, I've never had a problem with growing. My hair always produces in that aspect. As a matter of fact I don't even sweat breakage/shedding like some others do. Some people count all the hairs in their sink and combs, take pics, I just sweep it up throw it in the trash and keep moving. My hair is so abundant, that as long as I don't have split ends, it doesn't even matter.

:yep: join the club.

I'm the same way. I don't give it much thought either because in comparison it really isn't much!:lachen:

I've been having some postpartum shedding issues. So 2 weeks ago I had a tangle problem for some reason I have yet to figure out. In the midst the shedding I'm trying to detangle and pulled out so much hair. So DH comes into the bathroom and he says..."you cut your hair!" I said no.. this is part of the shedding thing I've been telling you about.. (obviously he hadn't been listening :lachen:) So he said, "don't worry about it.. you can worry when what's on the sink.. is the same amount that's on your head,.... and what's on your head now.... is on the sink" :spinning:... I guess that's his way of trying to be sensitive to my hair issues... I thought it was cute nonetheless!

I am so GLAD for this post. I am a newly natural 4a/b/z with about 4-5 inches of hair. I love my texture; the length is a bit of a pain and the lack of moisture is my biggest concern right now. I am looking at doing steam treatments now and I currently co-washing 3-4 a week.

Super thick 4a/b natural checkin in

I must admit; there's not a whole lot I consider difficult about my hair nowadays, and I am happy to be able to say that :drunk: My hair became less difficult to manage back when I started learning more about how to take care of it, and also, treating it with patience and handling it in a very delicate/fragile manner. Once I learned to do this the process of taking care of my hair became alot easier.

I think what makes my hair fly is how I can rock it straight and mid-length, or kinky/big...and people are always amazed at the the versatility (sp?) of my hair

I am absolutely IN LOVE with doing steam treatments (about once a week) with ORS replenishing pack! :yep:

Have you considered using a curl moisturizing spray? I've been using Worlds of Curls moisturizing spray on my nape and this really helps with dry hair.:yep:

I wonder how many of us are twins. I know that me and mook and southernqt are hair twins.

I;m finding that shea butter makes my hair really soft when it is twisted or braided. I can't see myself using it on my hair when I'm wearing it open but it has changed the overall coarseness of my hair. It's soft all over even after a fresh wash and the coarseness is cut in half because it's soft.
It will forever be thick as a mother tho

Thanks for that tip! I recently started using shea butter and I love it. I can not WAIT until my hair grows out this perm some! I'm hoping that this time around my hair will do better with what I've learned in this natural hair recess. I really miss my natural hair.:ohwell:

When I was natural I had a simple regimen for my thick super dense hair, I washed every two weeks dced and blowdried then I twisted my hair all over and that was it, I enjoyed the gradual shrinkage. I used mineral oil (blue magic) and never dc and I had apl hair. This time I am transitioning back to my natural hair and I can't wait especially now I have aubrey organics and shea butter to ease my path. Thank you for this thread:drunk: subscribing!

Super thick, super coarse 4a checking in. I think I need to start working out again to be able to hold my hands up long enough to finish my hair! I have CBL length hair that shrinks to ear length when curled (80% shrinkage--how cool is that?!?!). I use Teri's detangle/smoothing method, and my curls POP! But good gracious it's hard to hold my hands up long enough to do it. I've got the fliest, most versatile hair in the office, with no weave, wig, extension, anything in. When I was relaxed it was always super thick and luxurious (feel like Katt Williams), and it's the same now that I'm natural.

I'm checking in. My hair is super thick, coarse and 4a/b. I'm getting it pressed tomorrow because I can't deal with it. Hate to use heat, but I'm exhausted and overwhelmed.

I'm transitioning now so I'll be keeping my eyes on this thread. I'm going to try to stay in braids when things get tough. I can't wait to be able to wear a "Macy Gray" afro.:afro: Seeing Mwedzi's thread the other day has me super-excited about going natural.:yep:

Uber thick/dense/coarse 4a/ber checking in. I love my hair because no matter how short it is, everyone thinks it's a weave or wig cause it's so big and never ending. :lachen: It's actually bigger and thicker than the wig I wear regularly. I've never had to use pieces or backcombing for fullness and I  it. The only downfall so far is that it takes me forever and a day to do anything to my hair...but I see it more as a labor of love than an inconvenience.

I  your 'fro in your siggy! I can't wait to see my hair like that.:look:

Thicky checking in

Pros: I can lose a million strands a day and you would never know...

Cons: takes forever to air dry......

how do you get the front of your hair to lay so flat with waves? Am I the only one who can not find a gel thick enough/powerful enough to keep their hair down? All those curly pudding things are just a joke for my hair. My goes: :lachen:you can't be serious :nono: at the sight of all these popular gels and cremes most people on here go crazy for.

I found a gel called "clear gel" it is in a clear jar with a black top...now thats some gel for us thick ladies...

My hair laughed at the IC gel...um no..

My naps were like...um whatchu doin...

i have had thick hair all my life...my momma used to hate braiding my hair when i little because it was so thick and corse. Now the only issue I have with my hair is when I want to do twists...my arms are dead when i finish...when u think ur done oh no thats just one side...however i love doing wash and and go's and i love when people of the other persuasion ask to touch and it and then i jump or scream when they do...hehehe

My hair is the thickest hair ever. Texture who cares even when my hair is relaxed it's too thick! I am transitioning long term as my hair takes over my life when it's short with daily styling. Bun tastic is the way to go.

My hair was colour damaged so not it's best but wow it was hard work.

:bump: for more updates

I haven't checked in a while in this thread in a while.:look: I just wanted to say that those of you that spend hours detangling, check out the Tangle Teezer from Sally's! The Tangle Teezer is amazing! I detangle my thick 4b hair in minutes instead of hours, it doesn't hurt, and I don't have breakage from it.
