I have been rollersetting for what seems like forever at this point. Now that my hair is finally getting some length (about 1 1/2 to go to APL) it is getting harder to smooth that stuff around the roller. When I take the rollers out I have all kinds of humps and bumps and puffs and it looks tore up at the root. The bottom looks ok except that sometimes it is hard to keep those ends smooth. I had rollersetting down to a science when my hair was shorter but NOW it is getting HARDER TO DEAL WITH. I thought longer hair was less stressful but now I don't know!

I'm rinsing my hair tonight, flatironing and roll it back up or something...shrugs.

I feel your pain :( ... I've never been able to rollerset properly though...I tried so many times, and then I gave up :(

Shishi,

Say it ain't so!!! I surely thought as my hair got longer it would be easier. Waiting for more replies ...

i totally understand how you feel! roller setting is entirely time consuming and if it doesn't come out perfect, you can't just go and redo it. you have to work with it.

i'm actually looking fwd to rolling my now APL hair since i got a trim.

what type of rollers do you use? i use magnetic but am contemplating getting the coil ones with the metal wire. i was told that those grip better in order to get the root straighter.

have you tried ponytail roller sets? you may have to straighten your roots with a flat iron but it's takes less rollers and can come out just as smooth.

smooth.

really...i did NOT experience that when i tried them. They did dry my hair faster...but i didn't get the tightness i get from magnetic. maybe it was my technique:ohwell:

I can't stand doing full rollersets, but ponytail rollersets I can hang with. I love them! Quick and easy!

 I am the total opposite. I can get the mesh with wire super tight, the magnetic ones I just can't get the hang of.

Yeah it's just a lot of WORK. I've got to figure something out. I gained most of my length rollersetting and PS's so I don't want to set things back by using my flatiron too much.

I don't know. I use the magnetic rollers and they are wobbly so I don't get that straight tautness at the root. The only way I know how to get that is the bristle rollers with the pins that leave dents in you scalp.:nono:

If you're using the mohawk technique, anchor the first roller with the pin, then for the next roller stick the pin through the second and first one, and so on. That will give you a nice taut set without your head feeling like a pincushion.

If your hair isn't going on the roller smoothly you will have to adjust your technique. I always comb each section with a fine-tooth comb after detangling with my larger comb. Most importantly, be patient.

Good luck!

i ponytail rollerset and i feel the same way. they used to be SMOOTH but now my ends are jacked. i was hoping i was just out of practice =(

Ladies, try pulling the hair in the opposite direction that you are rolling instead of holding the hair up straight while rolling. For example, if you are rolling your hair with the roller going toward the back, pull it forward towards your face an angle and make sure you comb through it with a medium-wide sized rat tail comb.

Rolling the hair at an angle gives you more hair at the root to hold the hair pin.

I found this pix on the internet. You see you need hair at the base of the roller to hold the pin. This will give you a tight set.

ShiShi- Girl, I feel you. This past Saturday, I went to the salon because I wanted something different. I let my stylist flat iron my hair bone silky straight with swang. I loved it...I recieved so many compliments at the salon and now at work. It's so tempting to go back to the salon biweekly for this look:drunk:. I will not attempt to do this myself...I just don't have the flat iron skills.

Yes, rollersetting long(er) hair is more challenging. For one, there comes a point when your arms don't stretch high enough to grab the ends of the hair with the roller. You'll have to start placing the roller somewhere along the section and wrap the ends around.

I cut off 4 inches 6 weeks ago and honestly one of the things I loved about the cut was that my rollersets became easier.
