I just took out my weave and it seems like I have this hair collecting at the end of my strands. I am trying to figure out a gentle way to detangle it.

Try putting a moisturizing conditioner (like Garnier) on your hair and then try to detangle. Add some water if necessary. :yep:

I say a nice slippery conditioner and then separate it into small sections. I go through detangling in stages - first the fingers, then the shower comb, then the k-cutter, and finally the denman (although I usually wait till the final detangle, when I've added my products, to use the Denman)

Once a section is detangled clip it up or put it in a bun with a soft holder to keep it out of the way.

Detangling under running water often helps knots to slide out. But I've never had a weave so I can't 100% vouch for that being the way to detangle after taking one down.

I just want to stress that you must NEVER, ever attempt to detangle hair with water after taking down a weave (or braids for that matter)
I learnt the hard way that if that hair is not thoroughly combed out before washing, it will literally mat/dread into clumps that only scissors can remove.

I advise combing out in small sections using some kind of detangling spray. Just make sure you remove as much of the shedded hair as possible or you will not like the end result.

just FYI.

Thanks for coming in and setting the record straight. I remember someone telling me they had problems after taking down braids b/c they washed their hair without detangling first. I wasn't sure if it worked they same with weave.

I do not wear weaves, but here's something that i do weekly for dc'in and detangling, since i wear cowash n go curlies alot... try steeping some tea (caffeinated) -- let cool, put in a spray bottle... and use that with a good conditioner... like aussie moist or even pantene for woc separating sections as mentioned a little earlier... after combing thru, saturate with tea and conditioner, seran wrap and let sit for an hour or more for deep conditioning... then rinse... hope this helps!

Somebody told me apple cider vinegar. I just pour it on my hair and it de-tangled very fast. Will need to wash right after as it stinks in your hair but this was the best thing I tried. Very fast working!
