I guess I'll go first
my hair is so thick that I relaxed because I couldn't deal with all the hair anymore. Now I'm considering transitioning back.
But I had gotten tired of breaking like 3 hair ties (bubbles, elasctic scruncci (sp?) thingys) per day just to get my hair in one

super thick hair right here! I don't know that my hair is so course, it can be quite soft but my coils are really small and my hair is super thick! Even with a relaxer, if I were to airdry my hair, you would think I was a natural with blow dryed hair.

I would go natural but I wouldn't know what to do with it. My natural hair gets straight but slowly coils back up after a day and that is with SMB which is great at keeping moisture in my strands but not so great for keeping the coils away.

Well I'm not natural either ajoyful but possibly considering transitioning back. My hair is like yours though I have a perm but it looked like I just blew out my hair as if I were natural. It is very hard for me to keep my NG str8 when I flat iron it. It never really gets very straight. But it's odd because my hair is not really that tightly curled! I don't get it. My hair is so thick, the denman brush everyone raves about....when I bought it (mind you I was only a few months into my transition when I bought it) it was only able to scratch the top layer of my hair and I am mostly relaxed!
Some people complain that coarse/thick hair is very weak but that's not my problem, my hair is so strong and resilient. That's one plus.
ETA: BUT....if I could take a magic wand to my head I would wish for thinner hair so that I could do cute wash a gos quickly and easily. And have tighter slicker puffs and ponytails.

I am relaxed (texlaxed) but when I was relaxed bone straight people would ask me why I don't get a relaxer:ohwell::perplexed. I hated my thick hair at first but now I am loving it.:yep:
 
The lady with the hair so thick she has made stylist scream in horror when she walked through the doors.

Difficulty - Thickness, detangling, S H R I N K A G E!!!!!!!!

Fly - Thickness (yes it is a positive also), cowashing everyday, protective styling, versatility, learning about as it grows.

What changed your mind? If I choose to be relaxed, I love my hair because it will never look thin and unhealthy in that state. But when I was natural I hated all the thickness of my hair! It was too much! I couldn't do much with it. What ever hairstyle I wanted to do took way too long and too much effort to achieve

I just went natural. I have really thick hair, maybe enough for 3 people on my one head. I'm only newly natural so right now combing and grooming is quite easy. I'm a bit scared for when it get's longer. I have a feeling my hair will fight itself so that it won't fall down. However, I'm hoping good conditioning can remedy that
 
Super thick super, coarse hair checking in. I am natural and it is sooo hard sometimes. I have figured out that I need to do my hair in stages as not to break my back or shoulders.

and oh, my hair is 4b but its still in the twa stage, so i guess time will tell if i will be able to develop my biceps from styling it
 
Another 4/b natural checking in what seams to keep my difficult hair happy and soft is deep condition sometimes twice a week and co washes lots of moisture and baggying. I really try to stay away from poos if I can and only use them if I have to clarify if need so but I'm starting to think about doing more baking soda rinsing or avc rinsing to do my clarifying I've notice hear lately poos throw my moisture blance way off and it sometimes take a week or two to get it back on track.
 
Thick hair here, dont think it is coarse though.
4a/b (mostly frizzy 4a), with 60-70% shrinkage.
I guess my greatest issue is not able to make a bun, hair is so thick cant be put together, even stretched out it can not make bun. I am shoulder length with about 1/2-1 in from collar bone length.

I love the thickness though, I just need more length to be able to bun, as I really love buns.
 
Super thick natural checking in. A blessing and a curse. I love my natural hair, but it is not easy to deal with. I know now, that my natural vs. relaxed hair was not easier or harder. It's just when I was relaxed, I went to the Dominicans every week. As a natural, I do my own hair.

Also, when wet, it's a dream to deal with....But dry :nono:
 
My hair is interesting. I'm told often .. wow.. "your hair is thick", But when I look at shed or broken hairs, they appear to be rather thin and fragile. However, the density of these hairs is serious. I texlaxed a month ago, just because i wanted a little bit less of a fight with detangling. That was achieved and I still have the thickness.
 
Rght now I am happy because I'm in single plaits (no hair added), when I take my hair out, it gives me armache to manipulate it into a pony or bun. Upside is that nowadays those buns are getting longer, thicker and fuller, no chance of anorexic anything when you have our type of thick hair!

Your hair is gorgeous in your avatar! Is it flat ironed there? I can not get my hair straight enough when I flat iron. Do you have a technique?
Even with texlaxed hair I have to take my hair in stages too. I permed after 3 year of being natural because it was too much work. I was at armpit length I can only imagine the trouble you go through to do your hair! Is it BSL?

Just by looking at your Profile pic I'm wondering if we're hair twins :rolleyes: I used to do a lot of singles braids when I was natural too (like in my pic^) because that way I didn't have to deal with my hair for 2-3 weeks! It was a break!
I'll be checking both of you ladies' fotki's when i get off work:yep:
 
I've been managing to milk my single braids for 4 weeks at a time, loving it!

4a4b checking in! It is getting easier to manage now that I have found a regimen that works for me.

Water is the best friend of my hair, and scalp, along with low-no manipulation.
 
4a/b here. I'm starting to love my hair as it grows. When my hair is wet I can do anything i want to it and I looks wonderful. but as soon as that bad boy dries :nono:. I cant wait to get some length so I can fully enjoy my hair.
 
I'm 4b natural with thick hair. My hair can feel soft when moisturized if you squeeze it. But if you run your fingers down a strand, it feels like very fine wire. Despite this, I manage a 75%-80% shrinkage rate easily, though I rarely let it shrink up as much as it can. I'm at the end of my rope.
 
Another 4a/b thick haired natural checking in.....I have had numerous stylists either refuse to do my hair or want to charge me some ridiculous amount for what I would consider a simple style. So, I just do my hair myself. The last time my hair was professionally done was May 2007, flat twist set $80, and the last time my hair was straightened was 2006 and it was done for $120:nono:. Even the $25 dominican blowout was $60. I went there one time (2003) and the heat was tortorous!......I really need to get some pics together so that I can start an album......

how do you get the front of your hair to lay so flat with waves? Am I the only one who can not find a gel thick enough/powerful enough to keep their hair down? All those curly pudding things are just a joke for my hair. My goes: :lachen:you can't be serious :nono: at the sight of all these popular gels and cremes most people on here go crazy for.

You've described my hair to a tee. And just so you know, I am on the rope with you and am about to jump into a pool of creamy crack. :nono: My hair is in braids right now. I honestly don't know if I'll be natural anymore by the end of this year. The proud, stubborn part of me wants to wait and see until next year just so I can boast of having had natural hair for 10 years. We'll see. :ohwell:
