HAIR AND TRAVELLING - PLEASE SHARE!!!

I am a frequent traveller in desperate need of some advice for travelling and keeping my hair looking on point. Last week I travelled to Florida and I was surprised by how awful my hair looked and felt when I arrived after 7 hours of travelling . This always happens to me and I am not learning I left with a perfect WNG in the morning but didn't anticipate that the plane would be as hot as it was, but sometimes the plane is cold, or I have to walk outside to get to the plane. I would like to travel with nice hair. I have a sensitive scalp, so braids do not work for me . Overall I did not have my act together where my hair was concerned on my trip.

What do you do to your hair when you travel? Do you change your reggi while away. How do you travel with your products. What do you do to your hair if you choose to swim. Thanks in advance

I wear hats or caps or wraps. Something that allows me to relax and not have to worry about my hair till I'm settled at the other end.

If you're traveling for work and can't wear the hat, how about a phony puff or pony? Smooth hair back into a pony or braid tucked under. Attach a phony pony that knows how to stay cute. Before you land, go to the b/r, give the puff/pony a good fluffing touch (good thing you can take it of and actually get a good look at it) and then put it back on and step out looking like you had your head floating above the clouds away from style messing seats, airplane heat or clumsy passers-by.

I travel frequently and my regimen is the same as when I am at home. I have small bottles and jars purchased from Walgreens that I fill with whatever products I need while I'm gone. I have a soft bonnet dryer that fits in my suitcase.Currently I am wearing buns -- they look just as neat when I disembark as when I boarded.When I swim I pull my hair back with a scrunchie at the end. I wet it down before I get in the water.

I am in the process of developing my hair travel kit. I don't go long distances a lot nor do I stay gone very long usually, but sometimes when I wake up the next morning, my hair is SCARY! And I really didn't bring a Plan B in case my hair didnt hold the original style. Here's what I think I'm going to have on hand.

Phony pony
Phony bun
Satin rollers
half-wig
hair elastics or scrunchy
aloe vera gel
brush
flat iron
hot rollers or soft bonnet dryer
hair pins
hair oil
Stay Sof Pro (I use this for my edges)

In a carryon I would probably have the brush, elastics, hair pins (maybe a small aloe vera gel if it met airline standards).

I think you should plan for Plan B in case your style gets ruined. So whatever you do to your style at home, take the necessary supplies with you in mini versions. My typical rule of thumb is I try not to get something so complicated that I can't maintain it while away with some minimal supplies that aren't awkward, cumbersome or might get me detained by TSA (lol).

When I travel I tend to just let my regimen go a bit. I like to go warm places so swimming is a must! I bring along my shikakai bar, good conditioner, aloe vera gel, and coconut oil. I usually wear wash and go styles while on vaca. I bring along scarves and fold them like headbands to keep some control over my hair. For dinners and things I smooth my hair into a bun or pouf and keep it moving. The last thing I want to be worrying about is styling my hair on vaca.

Wait... Is the OP asking for styling ideas for the journey or for what to take with her and what to do with her hair at the other end? I thought she meant how to look on point while en route to her destination and on arrival?

I hate how dry the air inside the plane is - 0 moisture! So I travel with my hair pulled back and/or covered.

For swimming, I highly recommend covering your hair in conditioner before swimming. Ladies here have been doing this for years. The sun and water can really take a toll on your hair so this summer I plan on using grease before I go swimming. I don't know how well that will work out for swimming in a pool though....

How you treat your hair will depend on what kind of climate you are flying from and to, especially if you are trying to maintain healthy hair.

I am eager to see what tips you ladies have to share.

I like the idea of taking the soft bonnet dryer. Thanks. I would never even think of doing this - this would also allow me to do DCs with heat and not miss out on my weekly DCs while I am away

This list is definitely a keeper . My hair was so busted on vacation because I did not plan it out like this. I am copying your list for my files. I hear you about the complicated reggi. My hair is very thick and I tend to use alot of product, so I find travelling with small sizes such a challenge. However, I will figure this thing out!

Almond, I hear you about relaxing a bit while on vacay. I will use more oils when I am away. EVOO is also so easy to find that one does not need to travel with it. Great idea.

Thanks for the tip about conditioner when swimming. I don't want the chlorine or salt anywhere near my hair.
