I meant to say review Haircare products, not really beauty products

:deadhorse: Shame on you guys for not helping a sister out over at Makeupalley.com! If you guys don't know, Makeupalley is a review site for all kinds of beauty products. I stay up on there religiously and consult it before I make any purchase. It has also helped to tame my PJism, which I'm proud to say I don't really have anymore. LOL.

BUT almost every time I go to read a review on a product, I go to filter the reviews by skin type and there are probably only one or two black people who have reviewed the product (if that many).

I just saw a post on here raving about WEN Fig Cleanser, and everyone is saying it's the truth but I head on over to Makeupalley and its been reviewed only by 3 people and their eyecolor is either blue or green. So ya know that I can't really draw a fair conclusion from that since our hair texture would probably be different.

So yeah, I hate not being able to see which products work well for black people. Just curious, would you guys consider joining it?

Do they have hair care products there? I would be willing to review those. I don't fool around with skin care products too much.

Most definitely!! That's why I'm so disheartened, because I can never find reviews haircare products that work so well for coarser textured hair.

I wish I had thought of the title before because I would have named it, "Can you ppl get your butts over to makeupalley.com and review some HAIR products."

i'm on makeupalley too and that's one of my frustrations. i've reviewed lots of skincare products but will also start reviewing hair care products. it would be such a great resource if more women of color chimed in.

membership is FREE, ladies!

Members already do excellent reviews -- both here and through their blogs and/or fotkis. (Think littlegoldlamb) What is the advantage to being redundant? You can find the information through this site...
Also, there is a product review database on THIS forum: check it out and contribute to it too! Regarding WEN there are several hundred posts on it here, so I don't see how it could be difficult to determine how it would work for women of color.

this is true, however, a lot of the products i use aren't reviewed on this board. as for people's fotki's, that takes too much time. first, you have to find someone who uses the same products and with the number of members on this board...that could take a few hours. it'd be great if people would also complete reviews on this board as well.

No doubt people already do excellent reviews and I appreciate that, but its really great and helpful to see reviews all in one collective place. It makes for easier management and on top of that it's more encouraging because what works for one person will not work for someone else, however if you are able to see where a good number of people with similar features are having success with a particular product it increases your chances of trying it. Where as if they aren't having success, it can decrease your chances for using the product...*hint hint: PJism*

And can you point me to the product review database so I can check it out?? I would love to.

Exactly, it's just a little frustrating to find reviews on particular products. But makeupalley has a diverse group of products and people who review these products. I just think that our voices would help other sisters out who aren't a part of LHCF but visit the review site looking for haircare help, etc.

Keep in mind even we have different hair types, and different haircare regimens so specialized info is important.

All of us here don't like the same products. Products that work for some black women don't work for all.

I would check here for hair product recommendations before makeup alley.

That said, I'll go check it out.

The bolded is very, very true. And yes, I do realize that. I use both places in conjunction with each other and so I would have to say that both have helped me tremendously. Thanks again for your cooperation though! Can't wait to see more reviews for coarser hair over at MUA.

Click on the Review link at the top of the page to see the Product Review Database. When I want info/reviews about a product I just do a search on the product and I can find all that has been writte about it, both good and bad.

OK! I have to say THANKS again for this post! Why have I been here, off and on, for around five years and never knew about this great feature?! Wow!

Cool idea, but please post some here too.

I have an additional opinion about this thread: somehow it just seems rude to come to one forum and ask people to go to another forum when the same information is available here. If the LHCF product database doesn't contain the products that you use, then ADD THEM. I'm pretty certain that it is not a goal of LHCF to provide for the membership of other forums!

I don't think it's rude at all and it actually makes sense, depending if your goal is to provide product info to women of color in general or just to the ones on LHCF.

This forum is a GREAT tool for finding out products, however a lot of ppl may not even know about LHCF. It would be of benefit to many other ppl as well to include a few product reviews on makeupalley.

Makeup alley is used like a review site rather than its forum features, IMO. Whenever I go there, I go straight for the reviews of the products. It's like a big database to search for products and how they work. It makes reviews easier to find than LHCF/fotkis most times.

I don't think it's a big deal unless the OP requested or ppl were to stop posting reviews on LHCF all together.

I have signed up but it is not a site that I frequent..in comparison to LHCF.

I will have to incorporate this into my online time!

I'm on makeupalley too. I forgot my SN though.lol
Sometimes it is easier to post a review someplace than to start a whole thread that will probably sink down to archives anyway.

BTW can you add products to LHCF's review page?

thank you soulie for teaching me how to use the review feature on the site. i never knew it existed so i'm sure plenty others have learned something new also.

as for your other comment, i wasn't trying to be rude but i'm guessing your opinion is in the majority since others haven't replied to this thread. i have stated and restated my purpose for asking this question so i'm sorry that you seem to be missing that point. but if you think that i am trying to sway others from LHCF or convince others to prefer another forum over LHCF, you have missed the boat completely. besides, makeupalley is a review site, sweetie.

i am at a loss of why you consider this rude when i have seen LHCF "provide membership" to plenty other forums/sites. people suggest other places to check out more information at all the time, but that doesn't mean we are trying to take any of the credit away from LHCF. i would think it would be a relatively hard thing to do anyway because LHCF is just too awesome to be forgotten. so you shouldn't worry about that. if i were you, i would focus my efforts on something more important.

Allandra, in all honesty, I never even knew about the review feature. Now that I do know about it, it does change my perspective a bit. I even want to start a topic to encourage more people to post reviews here, or at least just to raise the general forum's awareness of this feature. I just wanted to be able to visit a site with a collective amount of honest and substantial reviews on haircare products for coarser hair. Not saying that I don't still want Black voices/opinions on makeupalley, but it would def. be even better if we could get our own thriving review section here.

OP, I HATE CHOO!!!

I spent all night looking at them gals' makeup!!!
Every single page of the EOTD and FOTD

Now I have to try some of their techniques.

I'm hooked!!!

FluffyRed,

It can definitely be an addicting site but its just extremely helpful in so many ways! Glad you're liking it and you didn't misunderstand my intent.

I have an account on that site also. I've had for years. You are right, thats one of the limitations. Not alot of sisters post reviews of different products (myself included). I will have to get on there more often and post some reviews.

OP, i understand what you mean about makeup alley. I am mostly a lurker on this board because my hair is still in need of help so there isn't much for me to contribute. I did post once when I discovered Joico.

Although there is a product review section on the site, only a small amount of people have made actual reviews in that section. I usually spend hours searching the boards looking for information on a product(and I have learned a lot)...but I find a lot of generic terms such as "use a good leave in or dc" and i'm thinking WHICH ONE??!!! The post with polls are great because they are close to a easy review.

So basically both sites are great for different reasons. Please don't blast me...just my thoughts.

Thanks so much for your reply guys! I hope others realize how great of an asset it can be when you're on the search for haircare products.
