Any "naturals" texturized the coarser part of their hair to make it more manageable?

This thought came to me last night right before slipping out of consciousness. For me personally I loved my natural hair but it was just too thick as it was getting longer and then my crown was the only part that had tighter curls and my scalp was tender there too! So I am conflicted about going natural again because of that section....which led me to think if anyone has ever "spot-laxed" before???:look:

I have different textures all over my head...3c, 4a 4b...whatev. But I love my natural head. On those sections that are more "difficult to manage" I concentrate on them more...show them some extra extra love. So applying more condish when dc'ing, moisturizing those sections more, making sure they are sealed with maybe a heavier oil, that over all works for me.

It would bother me if one section on the right side of my head my texturized and then I had a head full of natural hair everywhere else...just wouldnt sit right. I'd have to baby that side anyway now because it's chemically enhanced.

I've heard of people doing it. I'd be too scared to try that myself tho.

I have thought about it before, but I never did it. (I also think about relaxing my whole head.:perplexed But I haven't done that yet either.:look: )

I've heard of one person who did it, and she didn't like it at all. The textures still didn't blend together very well.:ohwell: Her hair was like a 2 something all over and 3 something in the crown. She relaxed it in the crown to try to get one texture all over her entire head. She hated it.

No...I was experiencing tighter curls in the same area, but since I've been using the indian Ayureda oils and powders, my hair in that area has done a complete turn around:yep:

Re: Any "naturals" texturized the coarser part of their hair to make it more manageab

I must confess doing so two years ago but only in a small part in my upper left and right front hair line which is a coarse texture than the rest of my hair. I stopped doing it because I found that it was making that part of my hair too fragile and it actually fell out which made me stop for good.

Best,

I've considered it, but I haven't taken the plunge...

My thoughts exactly, especially the bolded.

Re: Any "naturals" texturized the coarser part of their hair to make it more manageab

Funny this was posted. I was hanging out with 2 of my natural friends. And discovered 1 was not natural. She was talking about perming her daughter's hair and I told her not to and she said I texurize mine. Oh lawd! She said she only texturized the crown area cause she couldn't get a comb through that part only when wet. Well I said I only comb mine when its wet and I pulled my coil and she rolled her eyes at me. Oh well.

But anywho, if you texturize any area of the hair to me thats not natural anymore and I think you will run into more problems. I agree with the poster who said to baby that area more with deep conditioning.

I agree
I think it would be difficult in the long run. I'd say you either texlax it all or learn how to work with the coarser sections. There's no guarantee that you'll get the result you're hoping for.

Re: Any "naturals" texturized the coarser part of their hair to make it more manageab

try hot oil treatments with wonder 8 oil and coconut oil

Can you please tell me which oils you use? I am finally getting the hang of my natural hair and my crown area is where my curl and kink fight back with a vengeance. I am finally feeling better about my hair and I want to hopefully have long natural hair one day.

Re: Any "naturals" texturized the coarser part of their hair to make it more manageab

I've thought about it but will never do it for the same reasons I stopped relaxing in the first place: My hair is extremely resistant, it gets very fragile when chemically treated (my crown is my fragile spot anyway, so adding more trauma won't help), and I'm just over the maintenance of getting it done. None of those things will be different if I texlax just my crown.

Re: Any "naturals" texturized the coarser part of their hair to make it more manageab

That seems like a bad idea. I imagine retouches would be very problematic.

Re: Any "naturals" texturized the coarser part of their hair to make it more manageab

I'd have to agree with nice and way and seraphina. The coarser areas should be "babied" more, whether that means moisturizing more, hot oil treatments, DC, etc. Texlaxed hair is different than natural hair and still might not "act" or "perform" like other textures on the head.

Same here. I'm not fully natural yet, but will be in the near future. My crown is a different texture than the rest of my 3cish hair. I'd be afraid of the run-off from the relazer/texturizer :perplexed Not doing all of this work transitioning just to mess it up :nono:

Re: Any "naturals" texturized the coarser part of their hair to make it more manageab

It depends on how you plan to wear your hair and if you were planning on long stretches between relaxers.

If you do low manipulation styles and plan on stretching then it shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Any "naturals" texturized the coarser part of their hair to make it more manageab

It doesn't seem to matter how long I deep condition that section or moisterise it detangling in that spot seems pointless. That spot is the reason y I gave in and texlaxed.
