Hey laides,
i have been lurking for at least a yr and i finally decided to become a memeber...YEA!!!. lol. so i have been taking care of my hair this past year, it was alittle past SL, by the end of last year after a summer of taking care of it reached APL and i was on my way to BSL. i went on a cruise with my family at the end of the summerer and i did not want my hair to be out, becauese i planned to swim, i braided my hair. i went away to college and when i finally took my hair out i was so0o0o excited because my hair was just BSL. Well i ddint detangle well enough before washing my hair, so i lost all my progress and more. :wallbash: It was so0o sad i felt discouraged but i sucked it up and got a really good hair cut, and it was good because my hair was over all thicker now.

so00o0oo0o0o0 heres my dilema.... i decided not to relax my hair as to allow it a break and time to grow back so as of today i am four months post-relaxer. I have really tight curls about 1.5-2in long all over my head. As of the past 2 weeks i have been shedding like crazy, i also recently started cowashing. maybe i ned a good protein treatment? ( can you recommend any???) im not sure if cowashing is the culprit or something else is. help me please!!.. i also need help finding a good shampoo and conditioner that will loosen my curls and allow me to detangle better, ive used Herbal Essence and it has done nuthn for me...im lost!!! lol.

I would say try Aphogee 2-minute for protein, and start taking garlic supplements to combat the shedding. If you are just shedding and not experiencing breakage, then the milder protein (as opposed to the hard protein of the 2-step) should be plenty, and I know that I and many other ladies here use garlic to slow down/stop shedding. HTH. :)

I co-sign on the Aphogee 2-min recommendation. I also recommend the Joico K-pak Reconstructor. Also, if you can find it try the Nexcuss Emergencee treatment. I've tried all 3 of these.

Plus, in addition to taking garlic supplements, to immediately stop the shedding try Aggie's garlic pre-poo. She also has a shedding+breakage recipe. They both are in her fotki but here are the links:

Aggie's Garlic Pre-poo Recipe for Shedding

Aggie's Garlic Oil/Molasses Pre-poo Treatment for Shedding and Breakage

I tried a similar garlic pre-poo recipe and it stopped the shedding in it's tracks.

Regarding a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner recommendation, I like the Nexuss Humectress products. The Suave Humectress products are good too and they're cheaper.

HTH and Good Luck.

ETA: There's a Coconut-Lime "relaxer" recipe that's some say softens their new growth enough to help them with their relaxer stretching/transition. Here's the link: Coconut&Lime. I personally haven't tried it, but after reading through it I decided to try it next weekend. Some use it as a pre-poo and others as a post-poo DC. Others too recommend a moisturizing DC afterwards. And of course, others have added ingredients to the original recipe to suit their hair needs.

:welcome4: I agree with the other ladies. I'm sure some of the other hair gurus will chime in with more advice. Good luck and happy hair growing.

Welcome!! glad that you are here.

Without knowing what your reggie is I would say protein should do the trick but start out slow. You might want to try Apogee 2 min. Some of the ladies have had a lot of success with garlic (I haven't tried it yet)

You also may want to remove all shedded hair so that you know exactly where you are. I don't believe that you are having this issue because you didn't detangle before washing. For most, detangling is done in the shower while wet and for me after I shampoo with a shampoo comb followed by a denman brush.

Remember that normal shedding (100-200 strands per day) takes place even while your hair is in braids so that's why afterward there is a lot or what looks like a lot of hair loss. But it really isn't, you are just seeing it all at once.

Even when your hair is in braids you want to have a good hair care routine.

There is a lot of information on this board. You may want to do a few searches, you will be surprised at how much information has already been posted.
