Firstly, I logged in to lurk yesterday and took a look around...I've been lurking this forum since August of 2005 ETA December of 2005 LOL. I seen that and was really like WHOA it's February of 2009, let me sign up lol. So I'm Alicia from the state of Maryland currently residing in MI. I'm a stay at home wife and mommy of 3 and expecting my 4th :yep:.

So my daughters are always in my combs and hair tools and such...lol...I couldn't find not one wide toothed comb to detangle in the shower with conditioner...First I grabbed one of the guards on my husbands clippers LOL it was a wide guard mind you... Nah wasn't good enough.

My only two options were the rat tail comb or wide paddle brush... A few days ago I detangled with my fingers but it just wasnt the same to do again today after I had just thrown it in a wash n go ponytail. So, I did sections using the paddle brush. Conditioner was in there liberally and the water was running over my hair, I must say that it worked great. I lost little to no hair at all and the detangling process went extremely smooth, and it evenly distributed the condtioner too. I was thinking this is a great method.

Out of all of my hair journey years never have I done this, and I haven't read anywhere in the forums where it was an acceptable practice lol.

Anyone doing this?

Welcome to the forum! I am a stay at home mommy too! Congrats on the new addition! I tried detangling in the shower. It did not work for me. I am a natural 4a/b that is thick as heck!

While natural I could only detangle in the the shower with conditioner! I only use Goody's Jojoba + Shine brush wet or dry no matter what my hair's state..

I'd be wary of using certain brushes as they "cut" hair over time. That said, if brushing works for you, be sure to find one that doesn't have ball-like tips, seams, or teeth too close together and enjoy your tangle free hair.:yep:

Welcome to the board, dear.

Hey... I'm interested in what it means that they "cut" over time...Like overtime that would cause breakage? Geesh, I hope not cause it felt soooo good after, it seemed like I was doing more damage with the comb after using that paddle brush like that LOL.

And thanks you gals for the warm welcoming!

Welcome. Glad you found something that works for you. Just make sure you examine your hair to make sure it isn't breaking or getting damaged. I haven't used a paddle brush but I use a bone comb followed by my denman and it works wonders. Don't forget to check out our kids hair board and the parenting board. I have 3 girls so I applaud you for going on baby #4. I am done!!!! Q

Essentially. Some people don't have this issue. I didn't, if it's working for you go for it. Many an article has been posted here about such concerns with brushes. I use them without issue though they can be unpopular with some here. I understand what you mean about combs, though. Mine have to be VERY wide for me to use...and then they leave shed hair behind, defeating the purpose! :lachen:
