Would you use shampoo if it had lye in it?

I love my CON but I noticed it has Sodium Hydroxide (LYE) in it. It is listed low on the ingredient list, so I know there isn't much in there.....and

Im relaxed and only poo once every 1-2 weeks .....But does this bother you?

I dont know how I feel about this.

I guess thats why it detangles like no ones business. erplexed

We've had so many threads on this. Lye lowers (or increases, I don't remember) the ph of products. It's such a small amount that it could not possibly have the same effect as a relaxer. For example, formaldehyde is used in embalming fluid but it's also in lots of hair products (for what reason I don't know), but it's obviously not in the same concentration that's used for preserving bodies so it's not going to have the same effect.

No I don't think I would. I use both CON green and red. I hope to hear from the other members who know more about this. I like this shampoo, it leaves my hair so detangled and moisturized.

The last thread I saw on it was in regard to pantene's daily leave-in. This subject comes up every couple of months.

I guess it's good that everyone pays attention to ingredients.

I don't use CON, I use Hairveda, but I might have to start researching myself.....but I picked no.....I only used CON once, and I didn't like it......

Sodium Hydroxide is just a base or alkali, depending on what other ingredients are in the shampoo, it will only balance out the pH. Check the bottle and see if the pH of the poo is stated on the bottle and that will better help you decide

Ive never tried hairveda...CON is a great detangler for me and my girls. The closest Ive found that can detangle as well is Keracare moisturizing poo but I think it had had SLS. I have to double check. What didnt you like about CON.

I would tend to agree and I know most soaps have lye. I am tryna make some this weekend and DH p/u the LYE for me from the hardware store.

lye raises the pH it is an alkali on the other hand Acids lower pH.

Never been a fan of CON in ANY color. Leaves my hair slimey

Lye is very useful for many things. There would be no soap without lye. So we use soap on our bodies everyday and it serves its purpose. I Love con shampoo lye and all.

It bothers me that it's included in the ingredients but lotions also have it.
