Ive tried everything:glycerin with water. leaving in a little condish. S curl just left my hair feeling moisturized. I will continue to use it as a moisturizer, but as a curl definer:nono: Nothing defines my girls like fantasia IC gel, but it leaves my hair soooo hard causing me to co wash every single day, which I don't want to do. any suggestions?

I don't have "real" curls per say...I do braidouts, but I take some shea butter, glycerin, and an Aloe Vera/Water mix, and whip the tar out of it until it becomes a whipped butter. I must say it defines the curls quite nicely, I think it may be the aloe vera. It isn't the same as using gel, but it does offer some definition.

Hairveda Whipped Gelly and Curls by Sister Smith Wet Set Pudding both leave a great, soft hold. KCCC can leave a soft hold too, but it takes practice to find the right concentration for your hair. All of these over a leave in conditioner is key too I think.

I have reviews for all three of those products in my blog if you're interested.

I found that just not disturbing your hair after a WnG creates curls for me. I use about half a packet of ORS Replenishing Pak and seal that with my Coconut oil, shea butter and castor oil. I think the Shea and castor is what may keep the hair soft to the touch.

Right now, coconut is making my hair stiff.

I think im going to order the curls by sister smith.....im in love with your blog!

thanks ladies for the suggestions. keep em coming please!

Very timely thread. I did nothing but Wash-n-gos for three years using:

Paul Mitchell (PM) The Conditioner (leave-in)
Bed Head -Control Freak- for frizz
PM Foaming Pomade (oil and curl former)
PM Scultping Foam to set and hold the curl

You would only get the stiffness if you use a lot of Sculpting Foam. This was a lot to go through and so I've experiment with a lot of stuff.

This week trying Komaza Care Coconut Curl Line(Pudding and Lotion)
First day--no leave in ---soft but no defined curls--just waves

2nd Day- Komaza plus Leave-in --nothing.

This Morning - added foaming pomade and sculpting foam and scrunched--better!
Not hard or stiff but I have to add a gel to hold the curls.

Considering-curls by sister smith also!

For myself, I wet my hair with a glycerin water mix. 75% water 25% glycerin. And then i do a corn roll twist out (instead of braiding the hair to the scalp, I do I two strand to the scalp). On each braid I use a mix of IC protein gel (it doesn't have alcohol) and I use ghee butter-I don't like the smell of Ghee butter so I mixed it with this apple and cinnamon oil that I bought from saveonscents.com. And I just twist all the way down and put a little extra of that mixture on my ends and curl my ends around and then when its dry I unravel it gently and shake my head and BAM! My curls look natural, well defined, they stay for a few days and I smell great!

i just rake in some pantene moisture renewal over some tigi moisture maniac and i get coilies. its never as defined as when i use gel though. sometimes for more definition i might add some cantu shea butter. but still the definition will not be the same as gel.

Fantasia IC Gel w/ Sparklelites + a smige of Vaseline. I've used castor oil too. Works just fine. I started out my natural journey using expensive pomades and oils, but I've ended up with cheapies that work just fine (sometimes better) than the expensive products.

Feel free to pm me for pics.

Look no further! Get $3 and go to walmart. Go the the ethnic isle and get the long aid activator gel for extra dry hair. finger comb this through wet hair in sections. Give me you review afterward :) I have a thread on this.

why are you still reading?@!#??@ get up and get it!

How do you order the pudding from the Sister Smith? I lost their website when my computer had problems.

Water...well really moisturized hair...the better my hair is moisturized, the more obvious the coils.

I rinse my hair every day. Add castor oil when I get out. Keeps my coils separated and super soft.

The only leave-in conditioners that leave my hair defined AND soft are Redken Fresh Curls and Star Bio-Complex Sheep Plancenta Hair Shine

I've had really good results with Carol's Daughter Hair Milk.

It leaves my hair feeling so moisturized, and defines my curls while making them really soft.

My hair usually ends up looking really frizzy, because I can't keep my hands out of it when I use the Hair Milk! I recommend it. :)

I got my pudding (Curls by Sisters Smith) and used it this morning after a fresh co-wash...my hubby asked if it made my hair 'curlier' but it was still wet so I won't count his comment just yet...I'll report on how I feel about it by the end of the day...

OMG no! Its the ORS that's making your hair stiff!

Pretty much any good leave-in and the hair milk gives me the best curl definition. Before I found the CD Hair Milk, I would just use leave conditioner. But the hair milk keeps my curls really moisturized throughout the day.
