Hello ladies,

I have a aloe vera plant and noticed today that one of the leaves was browning at the top. Upon closer inspection i saw that the leaf wasn't fully attached to the base of the plant so I pulled it out because it was obvious that the leaf would have died soon.

Any suggestions on what i can do with gel in the leaf? Any hair/face recipes or suggestions? TIA

My mom has an aloe plant at home I usually use it on my eczema. I use to put it under my eyes for dark circles but I did not use it long enough to tell if it did anything or not lol...

That's what we use to do at home...was to just eat the gel. I use to gulp it down with apple juice and it tasted just like the manufactured Aloe Vera juice.

You can also dampen you hair and slap it on your edges to smooth them down.

Thanks...So i can use the gel from teh plant like regular hair gel, is what I'm understanding...how long does it usually last, I'm thinking of just cutting piece by piece depending on how much i need so i don't end up wasting any.
Any other suggestions?

Just a thought - try doing a search on aloe vera gel -- there are a lot of posts with recipes. :yep:

on the islands, this is very popular. the old folk love it claiming tons of medicinal value...#1 - fighting colds/flus.
we just normally cut it up and place in a container. I like to blend it with oranges or orange juice and I drink it that way.
be careful because aloe exposed to the air turns purple and the taste gets sharper the longer it sits. so if you are going to use it (drink) then be quick!
I know the rastas use aloe and hibiscus leaves (separate) to put on hair in a 'shake out'. I makes the hair thicker..although I was advised to use the hibiscus rather than aloe b/c aloe sometimes colors the hair..makes it reddish brown after continued use and contact with the sun!
GL and have fun with your aloe

Girl, this is why I have cherry cola colored hair. I thought maybe I wasn't using enough indigo in my henna. It's a pretty color though and you mostly see it in the sun like highlights. I slap it on to lay my hair down in a pony and go. Won't do that anymore, but the color isn't ugly. I learn something new here everyday!

To OP, you can use it like the ladies say in this thread. It does promote hair growth so I'd use the pulp and massage it in my hair.

Thanksfor all teh suggestions. I think I'll squeeze the gel out and mix with a conditioner...I don't think I can stomach drinking it.

Off to search the boards for more recipes

Oh yeah, recipe...I forgot. I use my aloe vera gel with distilled water, glycerin(you can stop there, it's very moisturizing) but I've started adding hydrolyzed wheat protein and silk amino acid to this mix and spray on my hair as a moisturizing spray. Aloe/glycerin/water is a popular recipe for a moisturizing spray.

I'd like to get an aloe plant. Can you please tell me how to take care of it? I'm getting more interested in natural cures and products.

from everything I know, there isn't much 'care' needed for the aloe plant. now I'm only versed in tropical weather so I don't know if that has something to do with it but it grows almost everywhere here without any special care or attention.

When I was younger the grown-ups use to make us eat the gel (straight from the plant) to cleanse the body

my family do this, very bitter though...

my auntie has a big aloe vera plant i use the gel after i wash and tone my face :yep:

it is great for dark eye circles
