Oh yeah. I hear friends and family talk all kinda TRASH about hair care and products and look at them like WTF, but i keep my comments to myself and keep it moving.

Sorry OT:
My hair stays in a bun 24/7 and i get from friends and family "what happened to your hair, does it not grow, because you keep in a bun all the time?" The last time my family saw my hair was Nov 2007 and i was at SL. I plan to show all those haters my TRUE lenght at the end of 2009.

I'm so cocky. I already got that Akatude so my hair expertise doesn't make it any better. I'm really sweet and easy going, so people try to always get in my face about advice to make my hair look better blah blah. like....Kristen your hair would actually grow if you didn't wash it so much!!! You ain't white... I get that look on my face :look: or say something that makes them look dumb.

Yea my SO's sister is not following the advice I gave her (december 2007) therefore not retaining any length, and blames it on me.. I told one of my other friends about it and she was like 'well some peoples hair just doesnt grow, you prolly got her using too much conditioner'... I had to bite my tounge and keep it moving, we've been there before...

Now what if two of ya'll cocky paths crossed and didn't know the other person was Niko's cousin. One person offers unsolicited advice to the other person, what would happen then?

BEEEEEEEEF....

LOL

j/k

:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen: at the bolded.

Yes I AM very cocky. When people say senseless stuff about hair products and techniques I just zip it up and don't say a word. It itches me so bad to say something but it would turn into an arguement. There's this girl I know and I wanna tell her about LHCF and BHM so bad but I just know her thru a friend and I don't wanna give her unsolicited advice. I don't know what her reaction would be. Maybe if I go by her I'll visit here and hopefully she asks about it or sees it in her browser when I leave.

I don't consider myself hair cocky. I just consider myself hair educated. :lachen: I am learning so many things now that I wish I knew my past journeys. It would have saved me so much time and hair. I am still learning so much. Thank you ladies for helping me along the way.:circle:

I hecka LOL'ed when I read that, and my sister down the hall was like "What's so funny?" haha.

My mom is always telling me I need to perm my hair and I tell her no. I told her I'm stretching till my birthday at the end of March and she told me go ahead, but there won't be any hair left to perm lol.

I laugh most at people's whacked out explanations for my hair. It's only APL but I still hear people say "Yeah, but you're mixed." When I say my hair's dry, someone's still recommending Blue Magic. Okay.

Yep. It's funny now when I hear people say stuff. I used to to go all out with these lengthy explanations with reasons to back it up (lol). Now I just smirk when I hear something crazy and keep it moving.

Hilarious! :lachen: I just play stupid like "oh yeah?" "oh cool" "thanks for the info"......

I find myself biting my tongue a lot when I talk to my family about hair care because there is just too much to have to explain for them to change up old ways. I tried to explain to my sister what co-washing and pre-pooing were and just gave up after a few minutes because she just didn't get it. Since I'm new to the board after lurking for years I always want to share information but have realized a lot of the practices on here are asking a lot out of people regardless of how much it will help their hair. Most of my friends give me blank stares when I suggest they limit their use of heat and consider protective styles when they complain their hair doesn't grow. I started to just send them links to fotki's for them to see progress pictures and now they are slowly starting to actually want to learn more. I can't get them on the board but at least they are viewing fotki's. My best-friend actually didn't believe a lot of girls hair was real lol!! She refused to believe someone could BC to a TWA and 2 years later have MBL hair.

Girl YES!
And I live in the land of "let's see how many strands of hair I can fit into this desperate scruchie, and then put lots of gel on my edges and curl my baby hairs"
good ol' buffalo ny...
don't NOBODY know about hair here.

I can't help it. I've always been cocky, but ever since I've soaked up all this hair knowledge, I feel like I know it all. So if a friend told me something that goes against the LHCF code, I am quick to correct. lol...I just can't help it. :)

It's very hard for me to keep my opinions to myself but I do. I notice that people will not take my advice... especially braiders. They are the worst because they don't want their clients washing their hair at all...

And yet, every braider that I know is bald!
Good observation:yep:

my friend has been a life long natural but her hair doesnt seem to grow! she's always trying to give me advice and i think to myself... i been natural for 7 months and my hair is longer than yours! thanks but no thanks!!

Do you feel like you know more about hair than everyone else? When you hear people say the CRAZIEST things about making your hair grow, do you hit them with a stale face :ohwell: and chuckle in your head ?

No.....

I guess I'm in the minority. :perplexed I don't really take what I read on LHCF as knowledge, per se, but more like a collection of experiences & advice from knowledgeable women. Not gospel, though.

I don't feel cocky. But, I feel I have gained more knowledge on healthy hair practices. I will share if asked.
Same here. I haven't been to a salon in over a year and the last few times I did go, one of the customers would ask my braider a question and she'd tell them something that was more for lining her pockets or just plain stupid. If there was another customer sitting there we'd look at each other like :perplexed:nono:.

Well. . .you can actually wash your hair every other week and be fine :lachen:

But yes, I am hair cocky. I've always been that way tho. . .sorry LHCF. You don't get the credit this time but you did make it worse

Yes, I was in the beginning. But since I made BSL, I have been humbled and amazed that I am going to actually grow my hair to lengths I never thought I could. (Besides I can't wait for summer to really show out and watch mouths drop. Tee hee.) It's tough when you hear some really silly stuff but people seem to be comfortable with old wives tales. Now I am keeping to myself and only sharing with those that are truely pitiful, and give me a decent begging. From now on my knowledge is a secret only to be shared with a select few who truely want to learn. And I am open to learning more ways to obtain length and healthy tresses. I figure the best way to educate people is to lead by example.

I wouldn't call it cocky, but I am much more aware and cautious about my hair and who gets to touch it. I haven't gone to a salon in almost 8 months and I could tell I was getting on their nerves. I brought my own brush and did not let them detangle my hair, I made the girl put in a little bit more conditioner after she washed my hair, I made sure the stylist used a heat protectant before using the flatiron. After that I just decided to continue doing my own hair. I might go back in 2010. MAYBE.

i guess I am lucky. No one tries to offer me hair advice because they see the results of my regime. Everyone asks me for help. I'm not really cocky about it, I just help as much as I can.

Im more educated than anything. When I see ppl whos heads is jacked up, I just want to help them, because I was there once. Its a slow process, but Ive learned SOOO many things ( even the simple things) That have helped my hair be healthier.
I wish I would have know about LHCF, or Nappturality 4 yrs ago! Then Maybe I would have stayed natural.
I have a friend right now who Ive known for about 5 years and never seen her hair below neck length, because she uses WAYYY to much heat and never wears protective styles. Its sad because even her permed hair is sooooo pretty and THICK!! If it was BSL Id be following her around with a towel to wipe up the drool!! LOL:lick:
Not that having long hair is the WHOLE point of life, :lachen: but it is interesting because we as a race have been stereotyped to beleive that its really just not in the cards for us permed or not permed, and we've been fed all types of lies and fallen for it!!! I just wanna prove everybody wrong, and when I DO, Im not gonna be cocky about it, Ill just make sure Im always around them so I can block out their sunlight with my :afro:BAA BABAAYY!!!!
Now that friend has she has started going to a stylist who she claims is gonna "grow her hair out" because she "just CANT do it".:blah:She offered me a card because the stylist does natural hair also, and I was like "No Thanks".
Im more protective over MY OWN hair now than ever! Like a young lioness over her cubs!!! :lachen:
So when ppl say things to me most of the time Im just so flustered, I dont say anything, or I just ignore it.

People ask you how I have gotten my hair this long (which isn't long, they just remember me with ultra short hair) and when I start telling them they either don't believe me or their eyes glaze over. I just stop. Even when I go to the salon when my stylist's talk about some tips, I'm like yeah, ok. I'll stick to what works for me...

But yes, I'm a little hair cocky...but you probably really won't be able to talk to me when I get APL and BSL....whoo sah! LOL

i do. i also critique their products in their bathrooms.

So do I. It's gotten to the point where I intently study people's hair products when I'm in their bathrooms. I was just in Trinidad for 13 days and when I saw all of my mother-in-law's mineral-oil laden products, I was like:nono:.

the only people i would act cocky to are the hairstylists givin out wrong info. i'm bitter from my stylist keepin me at SL for 2 years tellin me i needed a touchup every 4 weeks and a trim every wash. yes..i said every wash!!! grrr!!!

WOW!! so sad...do you think she did this on purpose or just didn't know any better

LOL. What a great question!! I don't get into discussions with people about hair care unless I am asked. When I over hear people talking about bad products I do have opinions but I tend to keep them to myself
