Would you tell the owner of a hairshop... hair fell out literally

Hello Ladies,
So on December 20, 2008 I got my texturizer touched up and all of my hair fell out literally. I have been going over that day in my head as to what was done differently and think I have figure it out. My stylist who is really sweet when she touched up my hair this time wih the chemical she began to massage the chemical in my head and I think that it was did it. I have talked to her about my hair falling out and she gave me a protein treatment and reconstructor and my hair did not improve. I have the hair in baggies for all of the times when I washed my hair and it fell out in clumps every singel time I ran the comb through my hair. My question for you ladies is so you think that I shoudl inform the owners of the shop what happened and bring in my bags of hair? If you were a stylist would you be mad? I do not want to get anyone in trouble or anything like that but I am still really upset and irritated everytime I cowash my hair hair falls out and I do not manipulate it much at all. Please give me your opinions on this because I am really upset. I plan to call my stylist today to inform her that I think my hair fell out becasue when she applied the chemical she massaged the chemical in my head after she applied the chemical. The first two times that i had gotten my texturizer my hair was a-okay. BTW prior to August I had been natural for 7 years. I just feel I need to say something?

Yes, you should. You should also see a doctor/dermatologist.

We know enough now, to know that a relaxer should not be directly applied to the scalp let alone massaged into the scalp. I am so sorry this happened to you.

I would have been said something, forget about the stylist being mad the owner can or maybe loosing alot of money if this the way she does her t-ups. I don't understand why she was "massaging" the relaxer in.

Oh and yes take the bags of hair with you.

Whether or not they get mad shouldn't be any of your concern. Your hair fell out from a service they provided. When you are in the service industry, you are held accountable for any side effects of your direct actions. They could have caused permanent damage to your scalp which whether or not they get upset at you for saying something, is something you might have to deal with for the rest of your life.

You should have gone back as soon as you noticed the hair coming out. That way, they could have tried to rectify the situation. It could have been an honest mistake or oversight in some sort of the process and by going back, you bring it to their immediate attention and give them the opportunity to do the right thing and try to fix it.

Go back to the shop. Tell and show them your problem. Ask them what can they do about it and that you are extremely dissatisfied and disappointed. If they do nothing and act like they don't care then that is when we can dispatch the LHCF Ninjas to come blow their ish up.

I am so sorry this happened to you...I would've been in the mental hospital...stay strong...I think you should definately inform the owner in a professional manner because this can hurt other women...

When i get my relaxers..after the relaxer is applied they usually smooth the roots with the back of a comb or with the hands....

Could it be something else? did you apply color? did you have hairloss prior to the relaxer? did she leave it on too long?

I'm so sorry this happened to you!!! I would definitely tell the stylist and the owner and take the bags of hair. Even if they can't help you directly, at least you can prevent the stylist from doing this to anyone else! As for what to do next, I would definitely stay away from that stylist and get someone that will help you bring your hair back to health. If the hair continues to fall out, I would see a dermatologist as well (just to make sure there was no major damage that you can't see).

My stylist wouldnt "massage" but she does "smooth" the relaxer to make sure its straight.

The stylist is going to blame you. I can already see this happening...any medications that you were on? Did you wash your hair prior to the appointment? Did you scratch your scalp?

I know some stylist that would grill me while i was in the chair. Asking me what did i put on it, have i been scratching etc? And the liability form would ask to list any medications or allergies.

WTH massages a texturizer in? You mean smooth it with the comb/fingers, or an actual massage?
If you feel she's the reason your hair is falling out, then you definitely should tell. Speak to her and the owner. I wouldn't worry about her being mad or getting in trouble, because she'd no longer be my stylist anyway.

I think it depends on the type of picture documentation you have to prove harm and your actions afterward. Like you can't show back up 6 months later and say Hey, 6 months ago, I endured permanent damage from your salon.

Chile please, I would say something. They need to know(which I would think is common sense) DO NOT RUB IN ANY CHEMICAL PROCESS. That is such a no no. I feel how heavy your heart is. I would feel so irritated and upset too after all of this progress. You have beautiful hair and I just feel for you. I would take the bag of hair and try to calmly and nicely tell them that rubbing chemicals into the scalp causes hair loss. I would even begin to cry and it wouldn't be an act. Just don't get too emotional so it won't turn into which they deserve. I know it's easier said than done, but let it go after you notify the shop. Maybe you're supposed to be a natural and here's your oppurtunity to start over, so make it FIERCE girl. You have so much knowledge to have beautiful healthy hair again. You took one for the team and I must THANK YOU for being the example( even though I think we should rent a bus and take a road trip to that shop and burn it down!:mob

The first two times I was okay when she applied the chemical but this last time I was not and I am so furious at this. I am not taking anything to make my hair fall out like this. I'm taking birth control but have been and my hair was fine. I plan to see a dermotologist but sometimes feel that i need to see one that is African American cause I went one time a while ago like 10 years ago and the man did not know what was going on.

I would complain to both the owner and the state licensing board.

However, I would also keep in mind that getting any chemical service is always a risk. I'm so sorry to hear that this happened to you!

I was wondering the same thing, was it smoothing? because I never heard of massaging but hey there is a first time for everything.
Good questions too, this is why stylist have you sign when getting a chemical service because alot of times when something goes wrong with the clients hair the first person they blame is the stylist, but I always ask what were you doing for the past 2 wks or so that could have contributed to problem. It's a tuff call.

Omg. I would definitely go and tell the owner and stylist the problem. What did she use? I know in the past I've tried the Just For Me texture softener and both times it broke my hair off. It almost looked like I had male pattern baldness. Once I was relaxed and the other time I was sick of being natural. For some reason that product just destroys the hair on my crown. Find out if she used a different product.

But most importantly make sure you go back and talk to them in person. My aunt had a mirror fall and chip a big chunk of her front tooth while at the shampoo bowl. They said they would compensate her for it by offering a free wash and style. Needless to say she never went back but she does regret that she didnt try to make them pay for what they did. Likewise, this lady could have damaged your scalp or something. You dont really want them to get away with that type of service do you? And image who else she may have done this to but didn't speak up. Go ahead and nip it in the bud.

Yeah the stylist may get mad or embarrassed but this isnt about her. This is about you and your hair. Good luck with the situation.

Relaxers are a caustic chemical and should not be massaged in under any circumstances. If your hair is falling out from the root than it would have to be caused by this or something internal. What was she doing on your follow up visits? Did you make her aware of the problem at that time? What products was she using during your follow ups? Are you sure that it is not something she did afterward that caused the problem?

How about the neutralizing process, do you think this was done effectively? Have you tried neutralizing again or doing an ACV rinse at home? I think that you definitely need to address the stylist with this issue and if you can not resolve it with her than take it to the salon manage/owner.

I got a chemical treatmet on Dec 20, 2009 and put my hair in pin curls and did not comb it until Christmas. I wore wigs all that time. I went back to the shop that next week and she gave me a protein treatment. The next week she gave me a reconstuctor, and next week she gave me a wash deep condition and cut my hair because I was mad that it looked so thin. My regimen is very low I cowash once a week, deep condition, wear flat twist for 3 days and a twist out for 3 days then it is wash day again and I cowash and that is my regimen. I have 4 baggies of hair and everytime I combed through my hair a clump came out. Have a look at my fotki. So everytime I combed my hair once with the comb, I put that hair in a bag and put the date on it. I was so scared to comb my hair a lot so I jsut combed it through once.

I dont think you are suppose to hot comb (as in pressing comb ) on relaxed hair, but I dont know for sure.

Wow! I am sooo sorry this happened to you. Definately make the owners aware and then see if you might have a case against them. If I remember correctly you might have to prove intent/negligence to have a good chance. At the very least they should be made to pay for damages and any dermatology treatments that you might incur as a result of the stylist actions. Besides they should have insurance to cover it.

I actually saw a case where a woman's hair fell out on a court tv show. She had had a relaxer and permanent blonde color done. She'd had plenty of pic proof but I don't think I saw the outcome. Sorry.
