I have been seeing less and less of them lately.. at least in Ohio.

To protect my hair from the cold. I got some the wavey ones. I recently went to an event and out of all the other ladies there, I was the only one with some.

Lacefronts and weaves are much more accessible now.

I still like the look of micros ... but maybe this is what it is. Plus, it takes less time and is sometimes much cheaper to get weaves. Good ones last just as (or almost as) long as micros too.

What? :janice: (We need a Janice Dickinson smiley) I will never stop wearing micros. Mind you, I don't pay attention to fashion. I don't see how they can be out of fashion when they are so much like having relaxed hair and versatile in the styling department. Perhaps why you don't see much of them is because very few people know how to do them properly without causing damage and how to care for them properly so not to suffer any damage. So people are just avoiding the devil they don't know. But I think properly done micros look very nice.

Wait, ignore everything I just said because it just occurred to me that micros mean different things to different people. If you're talking about attaching extension hair to 3 strands of your own. That's TOTALLY OUT OF FASHION and should actually be illegal. Now if you're talking about "my idea" of micros, where the braids are thin because the hair attached is small so it makes for a skinny braid, then those are still cool IMO.

Hmmm.. I haven't had them since high school and that was six years ago....I just haven't had the urge.

Yeah, I think they are out of style ...... at least here in NYC.
I see weaves much more.

Thank you all for your responses.

I think they are fazing out as well. I use to wear them for some years. Then stopped. I noticed that when I made my appointment i was able to get right in, where as before I would have to wait 2 weeks out.

they are too dangerous and have caused so much damage to a lot of heads. people are still getting them around here though in IL.

I think if you like them then they're not out for you.

I used to get micros all the time but now I feel like I'm too old for them and I no longer have the patience to sit for 5-8 hours getting them done and then spending a weekend taking them out :nono:.

Now I'm trying to get into weaving it up when I want a protective style.

I think micros can be classified as a classic style but someone on here had a thread about french rolls being out of style but I think their classic also, so don't listen to me.

Not in Chicago. Like another poster said, I see girls all the time on my bus with these disappearing edges. Braids are holding on to like three or four strands of hair. OMG! I want to tell them something but driving for the CTA can be hazardous to your health when dealing with some of those characters.

You and I are >>here<<. Square braids, cornrows, bun, and French rolls have always been in style for me and will always be.

I don't think they are going out of style... But I do think there is a trend.... they are sooooo expensive now... and I also think people are tired of dealing with how time consuming they are.....

I am too old to deal with them. I will not get anymore micros. Larger braids - sure - micros - never again. The last set took thickness from my hair.

I haven't been seeing them much lately. But I figured since the economy is in such dismal shape, many ladies simply don't have the money to get them done.

^^^^ OMG! That dog is NO JOKE! He jumped right on dudes throat!

Micros, they used to be the style around here 6-7 years ago, but I never see them anymore... of course I hardly leave the house, so you prolly shouldn't listen to me! :look:

I hardly do them anymore. If I do I dont keep them in too long and last time I even got half micro half weave. Sitting down for so long is painful!!! I always have to make sure that I tell them not to braid too tight and on my edges to take in more hair. I like tree braids though. I am 4b natural and have had full weaves before but since I workout and all by day week two two I am just dieing to get my weave off.

Also sounds like there is an age factor. Two or three people have stated that they are too old for them? Do we grow out of micros the older we get?

I think the reason we're seeing less of them is because it costs a small grip to get some. This recession is a beastie.

I don't see them that much in ATL either... Everyone either has a weave or natural, it seems.

lol i noticed that when i came to ATL last summer.

but my opinion is, i dont' think micros are OUT, it's just most people tend to wear them during the summer if they do wear them. but like someone else said, some people just opt for weaves instead to not mess with their hair, because you're protecting your hair but yet get to have hair to style however u want. all i know i don't care, lol i'm getting micros this summer.

I don't know if they are out of style or if people are having more problems with the hair giving them allergic reactions.(itching) Maybe people are being more careful and trying not to wear tight styles. I used to wear micros during my transition, but I will not get them again even though they were pretty. My edges are fragile. Also like other posters have said weaves are being worn a lot!

I don't think I'll ever grow out of them so I don't know. Especially because I don't feel any different from how I did five years or ten years ago. So whatever I was doing 5 or 10 years ago still feels very normal to me now.

*shrug*
