Con-Washers: UK-ers and, Hard Water Ladies

I've tried con-washing a few times but, found it made my hair dry and shed more.

I think the conditioner I used at the time (so long ago, I can't remember) may not be suitable.

So, those in the UK or, if you have very hard water, what do you use?

I like to try it one more time before retiring the notion.

I use coconut oil conditioner by inecto really cheap from paks. I also liked the pantene r&n breakage defence but i cnt find it anymore. HTH

i think the same thing was happening to me. when i started co-washing my hair was getting dry so started deep conditioning twice a week with ao honeysuckle rose which helped but i am still looking for a very moisturising cheap conditioner to co wash with

I don't have a staple cowash conditioner but I use alberto balsam, tresemme (blue one) or faith in nature (natural and cone free) conditioners. They aren't the best at moisturising but they are cheap. I also shampoo and DC once a week so my hair won't get dry.

Did you DC inbetween co-washes?

I DC at least once a week. My hair felt dry and coarse after styling. When I cut out CW, my hair was fine.

So, I take it you wash hair twice a week? Alternating Shampoo and Co-washing?

Ok so it must be the CW. I had the same problem but for me it was because i didn't DC regularly. I shampoo then DC once a week and CW every other day.

I really like L'oreal colour elive (red bottle) to condition wash with. It has amodimethicone which is a moisturising cone, but it needs to be washed out with shampoo after every 3 washes or so, because it will just build up on hair.
I've gone for ages without washing it out and my hair started feeling hard and dry. Knowing this really helped!

You may want to check what kind of cones your conditioner has, as some need to be washed out more readily than others.

Another thing that helps me with the water is Paul Mitchell's Three shampoo, which clarifies all that stuff that comes out of my shower. Though the shower filter sounds like a good idea!

I did start a thread about using de-ionised water, and was advised to get a shower fillter - shower head thing. I tried B&Q and they cost over £50!! I should try e-bay! I tell you what I am doing for now...don't laugh!!

My hair is in cornrow 'cos I'm wigging it this winter, but I us rainwater!! I have a rainwater butt on the patio, and boil it in a saucepan, don't worry it's very clear, no dirt at all. The water is much softer than the tap water, surprising so. Although I am unable to really check my hair, it is definatley not dry. I clarify as usual one a week or fortnight, but all is well.

I may well get a filter before summer comes, but this workd well for me at the moment.

I managed to co-wash successfully - at last!!!

I bought and used Inecto Pure Citrus Shine Boost Conditioner (could not be bothered traisping up to Paks but, will buy the coconut one after my bottle has finished).

Wash my scalp and hair then, rinsed thoughly.

My hair was SOFT!!!!!!!!!!!

Followed up with Dark n Lovely Shea Butter Conditioner. My natural hair was soft and, my relaxed ends was smooth like butter!!!!

Haven't managed to buy the shower filter but, will do as soon as I can.

It reminds me of JA when I washed my hair with rain water. It's a good idea. The way the rain falls in this country, we might as well put it to good use!!!

I am not in the UK but I have hard water.

I find that Lustrasilk Olive Oil Cholesterol Conditioner is good for co-washing and has chelating ingredients that are great for deal with hard water.

yall co-washing in the winter? do you make sure it is dry before going outdoors? i'm heading back to the UK this week after being in a tropical climate for 3 months. i have no idea what i'm gonna be doing with my hair as yet. *yikes* lol

btw, rain water is supposedly good for ur hair (at least that's what i was told when i was younger...before acid rain was making the news LOL)

Hey Sunrise missed this, glad your co wash came out well. Let me know what you think of the Coconut condish when you do try it, i love it! Ooh i never saw the citrus shine boost conditioner just the shampoo but i love all things citrus.

Yep i'm co washing in the winter, hey in the Uk all year round is pretty much winter . I air dry as much as i can in my 4 buns, i end up going out with it damp in the morning due to the moisturising. Put my wig on then i'm out the door, so far this has been fine.

I really want to try gathering rainwater, somebody at my work recommended this also.

Hey there...just co-signing on the water filter. I got one last year, and it made an IMMEDIATE difference in my shedding and breakage. I was losing two to three HANDFULS of hair at each wash and more in between. I lost 4 inches over the course of a year and a half with all my shedding and breakage. I still get some, but nothing close to what it used to be. I hope to stop it completely now that my twists are down.

The limescale coats the hair and dries it out no matter what you do, doesn't it?!?!

It also helps to clarify and to buy a shampoo that removes mineral buildup. Lanza Daily Chelating Shampoo is excellent!
