I basted my new growth with olive oil + coconut oil=soft new growth. May not work for everyone but I'm a beliver and olive oil will definitely be a staple.

Happy Growing:drunk:

Olive oil works soooo good on my Mom's hair and then when I use it...NOTHING...maybe I should mix with coconut. I will try this...

I went to visit my mother over the New Year's holiday and saw that she had a couple of bottles of Olive Oil in the bathroom. (My mom just went natural and does not know anything about doing hair) I asked her what was up with the OO and she indicated that her pastor has blessed and anointed the oil so she anoints herself everyday. I was like Mama, you need to put that anointed oil in your hair - straight 2 for 1 - beautiful hair and healing, anointment...She has been using ever since and she is really loving her hair now!!! (Just thought I would share)

(hmmm) maybe I need to take my hair products to church (that was out of line...my selfish side coming out)

This made me giggle :lachen:

:sekret: My mom has a gallon of EVOO in her kitchen cabinet... and I pour her EVOO in my empty oil bottle to refill. It's liquid gold! I put it in everything: shampoo, conditioners, mix with shea butter, in my relaxer. I put it in my hair daily, too. Good stuff :yep:

I definitely agree EVOO is the greatest. I did a blog if anyone wants to check it out for more information and other uses. Thanks for the heads up on how to add it to another oil.

Me too. I have a decorative glass jar filled with olive oil on my bathroom counter. I take it to the kitchen to refill it when I need to. Just looking at the jar on the counter, you'd think it's some type of bath oil.

I cropped a picture of the decanter from my fotki.

I've recently discovered how great EVOO is in my DC on dry hair. I'll never do another dc without it.

What ratio of EVOO to Coconut oil do you use? I use a 3 to 1 ratio. I agree that EVOO works wonders for hair. If I use a higher coconut oil ratio I don't get the softness.

BTW I just read in the latest O magazine (Jan 2009) to add 1/4 cup of EVOO to 3/4 cup of hair mask for a salon quality DC treatment. Does any one already do this? Do you use the same ratio or a different one?

TIA,
Ivy S.

No science to it I just mix half and half. But 3 to 1 sounds good.

My Aunt also gets her olive oil blessed.

I did read your blog. Which promted me to use it. Thank you so much. Keep up the research and the valuable info. It is really beneficial.:yep:

Mix a teaspoon amount in your shampoo and add some to your conditioner when your DC. My hair really likes it when I do that. :yep:

I experimented with the Suave professional shampoos by adding a capful of olive oil to both of them. Then I took them to the salon with me. Evidentally, they worked okay, and they lathered well; otherwise, my stylist would have said something if they didn't work out.

It's okay to add olive oil or any other oil to shampoo to keep the shampoo from drying the hair out. This eliminates the pre-poo method and the hot oil treatment. Mine turned white, too.

Some of my best moisturizing shampoos have oil already added to them.
I just wanted to get rid of all this old olive oil I have in the refrigerator without throwing it away. (It’s going down the drain anyway.) I did the same thing a few days ago with my Cream of Nature (ultra moisturizing/detangling formula). My stylist didn’t say anything.

Last night I added it to my Affirm 5 in 1 Reconstructer as well as to my Motions CPR conditioner--which makes my hair hard if used alone according to my stylist.

I love olive oil too. It's the only thing I seal with and it's great to mix with other skincare creams.
