I know Brahmi is good for preventing hair breakage and hair fall, also it helps condition the hair, and is good for preventing premature greyness and a memory booster, make hair thicker

The Fenugreek (or Methi) can be used for greying of hair prevention, hair loss, dandruff

Lol, I know it's a lot of reading, but the do ya'll Henna thread http://www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=87256 has a TON of valuable info, as well as setbacks (dryness) from using Henna with lemon juice, vinegar, etc. Henna does not need anything for the color to develop. And this along with not properly cond. is what usually causes the excessive dryness. Before I started my Ayurvedic journey I read, read, and read some more. I most say I'm soooooo thankful I did, because I never had any of the tradition problems from any of the powders. I would suggest subscribing to the longer threads for later reading. HTH

lol! I read the henna thread and know all about it. I use to use it, but it straightened my natural hair out. I have been growing out my hair for a year and the unhennaed hair looks like new growth :look:. Thats how bad it was :nono:. So yea, henna is a nono for me, which is why I want to hear more about:

  • [*]bhringraj
    [*]brahmi
    [*]fenugreek
    [*]rhassoul
I wanna know if they offer similar conditioning properties, darkening, or if they will straighten my hair or coat it.

Although I have not experienced with a henna, I can say this. Just from reading the countless threads regarding ayurveda methods, you have to oil your hair in one of the following oils overnight.

Shikakai Oil
Dabur Alma Oil
Vatika

If you use one of these oils to massage your scalp and coat your hair, paying close attention to your ends, I don't think you will have any problems. Please note that a henna enhances color to your hair.

If you use the Brahmi, Bhringraj, Shikakai or Alma powders, then I think it would be wise to mix them with a cheapie conditioner. Those above mentioned powders promote growth, strength and moisture when used correctly. Those powders are strengthening/moisturizing/growth powders when used consistently. Hennas are used for color. If you mix them with a cheapie conditioner such as Tresseme or Suave Humecto, it will be easieir to rinse them out, without leaving your hair feeling grainy like.

Also, when you mix them with a condition, you can pour the mixture into a conditioner bottle for future use. Leave it on your hair for 30 minutes and rinse. I forgot to mention that Shikakai is a cleansing agent. You can mix 1/4 of Shikakai, Brahmi and Amla. Those are highly recommened and I think you should be fine. But first, you must massage your hair with one of the above mentioned oils first. Add your mix and use a plastic cap. Leave on for 30 minutes and rinse. I hope this helped.

I use Bhringraj, & Brahmi in my cowashes & dc. I also have infused oils made of these. I don't know of any darkening qualities, but they are both suppose to keep the hair from graying. So could be:look: as far as coating the hair I will say yes, but in a good way, my hair feels super soft & thick after I do a treatment. I'm relaxed and I noticed my ng is much easier to manage since using these powders, so I would try them on a small area first if straightening is a concern. Also I am an Insomniac so Brahmi really helps in terms of lulling me to sleep after a scalp massage. They BOTH cond. my hair wonderfully. I have just started using the Fenugreek, I must say it give excellent Slip:yep: I am using the powder form instead of the seeds , I am VERY conscious of how much I use in my cond. mix usually no more than 1 teaspoon, I tried to go over and it was a bit hard to rinse. From my understanding The seeds release mucilage when wet so it's best to use them as a tea., alone or mixed in cond. I myself have never experienced any dryness from these powders. I make sure my hair is throughly oiled if I'm doing a paste with water, but I find I'm having great results from using cond. alone (no water ) to mix. It's like a cond. mud pack. I have yet to use the Rhassoul clay. The Brahmi, Bhringraj & Fenugreek are all suppose to be good for growth.
