Ok,... So I thought it would be a GREAT idea to make my own conditioner out of homemade mayonnaise, avodados and bananas... Well, check out my results:

:lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen::lachen:

Look at all the daggone TWIGS AND BERRIES lodged into my hair!!! I know I did something wrong, but I am not exactly sure WHAT! Should I have used a strainer?

I think I may have to stick with the commercial products if I can't get the hang of this!

Ladies - do NOT let this happen to you!

PS - I updated my fotki... Stop by if you have a chance!

you have to make sure you blend it until it is smooth. when i do these kinds of concoctions, i blend until the mixture is almost like yogurt.

Yupe, thats what i do, and if its too thick i add some sort of oil or conditioner to the mix, to get it just right.

beautiful hair serenity326, even with the twigs & berries

Beautiful hair ---- Not looking at the Banana:grin:...
Anyway - you have to BLEND items until they are pureed....

then you will have no problems.

I use food just about every week..... nothing in my hair.

despite the twigs and berries your hair still looks good:yep:, maybe you could use a hand mixer to mix your ingredients:spinning:

I had a similar experience with avocado. My hair felt great but it took 2 other wash days to get those twigs and strings out. I think the fruit has to be a little older than ripe and you have to make sure to blend very well. But even then I dont think all the fruit's fibers will blend. I haven't tried another fruit concoction since.

Op be sure to add some tea tree as a preservative so your concoction won't spoil on you. Your hair is gorgeous!

Gorgeous hair, even with the twigs & stuff.

Next time try whipping it really well, maybe even using a small, inexpensive food processor.

Other then the twig and berry hair accessories :lachen:, how did your hair feel? If you didn't notice that much of a difference, then I'd switch over to a regular dc to save yourself the labor. But if your hair feels like velvet, then maybe worth trying out blending it smooth.

You hair looks fabulous by the way.

So I just got done stalking your fotki! I LOVE your hair! It is beautiful! I second the idea of using a hand mixer to mix your ingredients! I have a small stick mixer I got from Walmart for about 10 dollars, I whip it out when I want to mix products, and it works very well for lotions, pomades, just about anything I use it for!

I don't even notice the food particles. I'm too busy drooling over your hair. I need to stay out of your Fotki and get back to work!

I used a handmixer... With the whipping attachment... No idea how there was STILL all this CRAP in my hair, lol

I did this, but will try mixing them further next time...

Thanks for the compliment! I tried the whole handmixer thing... Looks like I will need to take more drastic steps, next time (if there is a next time)

I think you hit the nail on the head! But, for some reason, I KNOW not EVERYONE has this issue... I am definitely going to need to find a better technique!

The tea tree sounds like a good idea... I made it the night before and then used it the next day. Do you think it needed a preservative? Also, is it tea tree EO you use, or something else? Can I pick it up in TJ's? How long does it last?

The food processor sounds like a good idea... I may need to try it!

My hair felt as smooth as silk! I am guessing it is mostly the mayo, and think maybe the avocado and banana are overkill... I will try the mayo next time alone and then see if there is a difference... Not trying to spend days picking ANYTHING out of my hair again! :yep:

hehehehee you could try banana baby food too check the ingredients though since sometimes it includes rice!

[whoops I didn't see someone else suggested that]

OH that has happened to me before too. I started straining my chunkier mixes through clean pantyhose. If you squeeze it you get all the juices but not the berries. :)

Ahahhaahahaha :lachen: That's EXACTLY what I want... Who was I to think I could just go slapping this concoction on without straining!?!??!

Your hair is gorgeous!

I use a tea strainer for straining avocados and bananas. I just push it through with the back of a spoon or a rubber spatula, the concoction comes out extra smooth and rinses clean.

Is it hard to clean the tea strainer afterwards?
