Well, its been a few weeks now and I think I'm loving Vaseline. You heard right....I'm adding it to my staple arsenal:look:...... My hair has never stayed so moisturized. A few things I found out is that, 1.) I need to clarify more often but I've found a gentle Redken shampoo that does the trick 2.) A little goes a long way. But the proof is in the pics (there are some more in my fotki ). I've retained quite a bit of length too. *bonus: I got a new camera for christmas, I'm going to be taking soooooo many pics of my hair .....muwhahahaha :look:*

Thanks for mentioning this... I had been doing some internet research about "vaseline in hair" and got quite a few hits discussing the use of Dawn Detergent to remove.... Of course these people were looking to get it OUT - because it was too greasy for them and it is highly likely that they have type 1 or 2 hair.....

So - Clarifying is key....
Thanks again! I won't be trying it - But thanks! BTW PRETTY PICS!!!

I thought Vaseline had mineral oil, which was bad for your hair?

Yes, Vaseline is Petroleum....

But - There are some posts about this.....StillaLady has some posts and tutorials on using vaseline.....You should do a search....

That is all I can say............Cause errrrybody knows how I feel about petroleum products around here....:look::look::look:

Well, I've had enough issues, so I won't be trying anything new, but I'll monitor the thread to see how everyone's progress goes!

For people with type 1 or 2 hair, it gets oily very easily because it already retains moisture on its own. Parts of my hair is 2c/3a but my texture is very "thready and spongy". Vaseline seals the moisture in my hair by smoothing the cuticle whereas regular oils do not; no amount of Roux porosity control has done this (I even consistently use Joico which has a ph of about 4.5). For me moisture retention and keeping my cuticle in tact = length retention. Plus I don't have to use as much moisturizer to keep my hair soft over a period of time

Gotcha!!! :yep: I can't wait to see your results long term!

If you're putting it on your scalp it's probably a lot worse than just putting it on your hair.

Just to clarify, I don't apply any to my scalp just the last 2-3 inches at the end

Which redken shampoo are you clarifying with?

Redkin Hair Cleansing Cream

Are you melting your vaso to give it an oil consistency?

I take a dollop, warm it between my hands, and apply to the very ends of my hair

You know I LUUUUVS me some Vaseline!!!
Arrr uhm...who is StillALady?????

It's bad for your scalp not your hair. I don't think it's necessarily bad for your scalp unless you heavily apply 3-4 times a week or more and only wash hair once a month or something like that.....but then again that's how it was done back in the day and it didn't do any harm.

I've been using Proclaim Coconut Oil Hair and Scalp Conditioner....which is nothing but Petroleum, Cocunut Oil, and Fragrance.

So far, I've used it over a leave in applying it to the entire length of my hair. I pull my hair back in a ponytail and do about 6 twists to the hair out of the ponytail/puff. My hair is very very very soft and moisturized to my surprise. I usually don't have to remoisturize until after I wash. And even up to that point, my hair has never felt so conditioned. So far, I am very impressed. I just tried it for the first time last week. After that week was up, I shampood my hair with no problems this weekened and again proceeded with the process described above--topping it with the petroleum product. Again, my hair is very very soft/smooth/conditioned to the touch. I'm still monitoring my progress but--so far....I like!!!

ladies. petroleum jelly is refined crude oil. and mineral oil is petroleum jelly. petroleum jelly is just thicker because it's whipped.

i like natural products, but not crude oil natural.
