Okay ladies I’ve been lurking long enough time for me to start asking questions and making friends lol….

I have been trying to find other ladies who relax and have obtained length so if you are out there (and I know you are) let me know your regimen …. What tools of the trade do you use and how often… I know a lot of you ladies do something called stretching, and I guess I do it as well, but just didn’t know that’s what it was called.

So the floor is open talk to me ladies…

Here I am! I am relaxed about every 3 mths with regular Affirm. I do protective styling. I've gotten good growth retention using protective styling :yep:

Hey, I wash, dc and rollerset two times a week or every 3 or 4 days. I usually use a moisturizing dc. Very rarely, I'll use a reconstructor followed by a moisturizing dc. There is no set schedule for the reconstructor, just when I feel I need it. I actually try to avoid protein on a regular basis. I try to bun, but lately I've been slacking on that. I moisturize daily or twice a day. I relax every 12 weeks.

What type of protective styling do you use?

I meant to tell you welcome! I wear buns and pinned up styles atleast 5 days a week. It seems as if just about anything can make my ends dry and crunchy, so I keep them up, out of the way, and smooth.

Hello H~H,

Feel free to add me as your friend. I do perform stretching on my hair. I've usually go for 4 months, and starting in '09 will try to acquire G menthod. I love, love, love Lekair Cholesterol Olive Olive (even when I am permed, so I am finding).
I wash EVERY DAY, moisturize, and use Infusium 23. I deep condition 2xs a week. I try to keep my braids in as long as possible, but no less than 4 months.

Now I am a lil diff. from most women on here. I do have skillz, so I braid my own hair, perform my own colours, perms and cuts. (unless it's a particular cut that I want, then I go to a beautician.) I just found one as of today 12/30, that I believe I will try on a reg. basis and just take my products with me.

C&G is a good way for growing hair, and maintaining length. I've also learned that with this method it is better to do box braids, than individuals, because when you take them down you have less end damage.

CHEERS TO HAPPY GROWING.... Yeahhhhh in '09!

Hello and welcome to LHCF! My hair regimen is basically:

- eat healthy, get regular exercise, avoid stress and get adequate sleep
- moisturize once per day and avoid direct heat
- co-wash once per week, detangle then rollerset
- if there is buildup, shampoo, add leave-in(s), detangle then rollerset
- comb/detangle only when hair is wet; fingercomb when dry
- wear hair in an updo or curly/textured style
- self-relax every 13 weeks (4 times a year); protein treatment, DC and color rinse at that time
- protect hair from rough surfaces and at bedtime
- trim hair after a major goal is surpassed or as needed
- leave hair alone as much as possible (low manipulation)

My more-detailed hair regimen is located in my fotki, in the "About Me" section. I wish you success with your hair journey.

Hey HH,

First let me say a big WELCOME to you. The ladies on here got some mad knowledge so they (or we??? I am knew to the game) will help you out. I am a neck length, relaxed head. I was contemplating transitioning but changed my mind (I just dont have the skillz or the patientience or time). I have not had a relaxer in 17 weeks and I wont get one until Dec'09. I a letting my hair take a break. I am doing the C&G method in the hopes of having long, thick hair in Dec. 09.

I co-wash and DC on Wed. On Sun I shampoo and DC.
Closer to the time to take out my braids I tend to cowash more because I want the NG moist as possible.
I apply moisturzer and seal every night and I do the baggie method every night. I also use MT at night and OCT every morning. Sorry that is Mega Tek and OCT cell rebuilder.

Pls. add me as a friend!

Here we are :circle: and :welcome:

My regimen is pretty much the same as the other ladies.

1) I co wash on Tuesday, poo wash on Fridays but DC with heat both days.

2) I bun 6 days a week and rollerset, twist out or use flexirods once a week (the latter two are considered protective styles as well)

3) No direct heat. I think I used a flat iron to smooth my volume for length check, but that was once in a year.

4) I relaxed every four months, but in 09 will try for twice a year.

5) I will continue using megatek to increase thickness. Ignore my thin ends, I'm agressively starting using garlic poo & conditioner and garlic pills because my hair sheds during the winter.

That's about it....again, welcome :wavey:

Welcome to LHCF! I am texlaxed if that counts. I stretch for 6-months at a time. I only have two more weeks before my next relaxer so I am super excited. I only do protective styles with sew-ins and half-wigs. Depending on the length of my hair during the next relaxer I may switch to bunning and a low-manipulation styles like rollersetting and bantu knot sets.

Welcome to the board, HH!

I usually keep my hair in a protective style such as a sewn-in weave for about 3 months. While it's "put away", I moisturize my hair with Infusium 23 and s-curl, alternating each week. I wash it maybe once a week, sometimes, every 2 weeks if I'm especially lazy. After 3 mos., I take it out, wait a few days and relax the new growth. I wear my own hair (protected with a baggy and phony pony) for about a month and repeat the entire process. I almost NEVER wear my hair down.

There's a LOT of helpful information on this site and we are more than willing to assist you.

I am relaxed and I use optimum anti-breakage relaxer, so far i like it out of the others, and i've tried most relaxers in my lifetime.

I use mizani and pantene products and conditioners.

salerm biokera on my ends. and that's about it,

I use an andis blow dryer, jilbere flat iron. and rollerset sometimes too,

I am about to get a good flat iron eventually but the jilbere will have to suffice for the moment, also I have to trim my ends not every 6-8 weeks but on a regular basis, I maintain my length, and my hair does grow.

right now i'm stretching currently 18 weeks and will perm when it gets hot.

you can have healthy relaxed hair, a lot of my friends are relaxed and their hair is very healthy. girls that i went to school with were relaxed and we all had healthy hair,

you can do it, it takes time and money.

:hiya2:, Welcome, before I say anything, there are two ladies who I admire, and they are relax, my hair idol--LaLa, and my other hair idol Sylver2 are on here and they have waist length hair and have relaxers. So check them out.......But I'm relaxed with almost APL hair...probably the summer I will be there, I use mizani relaxing products, and I did use silk elements lye relaxer and I did it myself and no breakage and I do stretch, I try to stretch 3 months or more......and my stylish was doing Mizani and she was making my hair bone straight....which was ok, but I couldn't do nothing.....but I just coat my scalp, with scalp protectant, and use honey shield from Mizani on my already relaxed hair. But I was told you can use Conditioner on your hair and ends, and vaseline on your scalp, and I just do my new growth and smooth it out, I time it and rinse it out, I wash my hair four times too make sure the relaxer is out and I condition with Aphogee 2 min keratin treatment and then I put conditioner in for a while and rinse.......after that, I use lots of moisturizer, a leave in conditioner and Morrocan oil......depending on my mood, I air dry or blow dry and flat iron.....and I don't trim........HTH

Thank you for this information.... I also use pantene products and I love them... And I do well with growth but it's the damaged ends that kills my hair everytime...

When I have used this process is when I grew my hair the longest (past BSL), but I didn't know how to take care of it once I wore my own hair down....

HI ,

I am relaxed..from looking at pics i think i am a 3c/4a....
I have a fotki where you can see the stuff i use......

Welcome btw...your hair looks nice....you will get good advice from this board

Hey HH, welcome to LHCF! I'm another relaxed head checking in.

I wash 1-2x a week and I alternate between airdrying and doing a braidout or rollersetting and flat ironing my roots. The 2 biggest things that have helped me retain length are: not combing dry hair and washing hair in braids in sections.

I deep condition on dry hair (I love LeKair Cholesterol Plus & ORS Replenishing conditioner) and only use sulfate free poos. Also I enjoy using Indian ayurvedic oils on my hair and scalp. I self relax every 10 weeks with ORS Lye.

Hi! Although my hair isn't 'long', this is what worked for me in the past. I put layers in my hair and after a few months didn't like how my hair didn't look as full so I chopped it all off. But I digress...

DC on dry hair every 3-4 days with heat with a moisturizing/protein DC
Shampoo in the shower
Apply moisturizing CON
Detangle hair in shower
Apply Rusk Sensories... and NTM....
Glycerin or jojoba oil to ends
Bun, silk scarf, off to bed...

Its really not much. Lately I've been wearing half wigs. You can check out my album to see some pics. I have one more I just bought but I probably won't wear that until later this week or Monday when I come back to work, I'll take pics of it when I do. Anyway, I treat my hair as if I would if I had a sew in. Corn row the back and leave only a small portion of hair out in the front. I moisturize my braided hair every day with braid spray and add a little oil to the ends, MT every day and the hair that's left out I moisturize daily. I wash once a week on Saturdays while doing this and just air dry. So far so good....

Subscribing and listening in intently...
I want to know too! Here is a thread with more ladies who are relaxed and have achieved great lengths www.longhaircareforum.com/showthread.php?t=321221

Before joining LHCF, my stylist and I nursed my damaged hair back to health with a weekly wash and deep cond/protein mix. I also stopped using direct heat in Feb. 2006. I literally may have used direct heat less than five times in three years (it may be more like three).

Since LHCF - I reached a major hair goal in a few short months. I still wash and deep condition weekly, but now I moisturize and seal ends, keep my hair up and don't comb it everyday. I think these three things have made all the difference with length retention because my hair has always grown.

Relaxed head here! I wash once a week...most of the time sometimes I skip a week from laziness...DC most of the time and generally always rollerset under a dryer.
Very seldom do I use direct heat. Usually, I use only heat when it is getting close to relaxing time to straighten the roots.
Daily, I where my hair in a bun or pinned up and I comb it about twice a week when I do this.

Welcome!

My regimen changes with the seasons, in the summer I tend to do more low-manipulation styles, like braidouts, along with cowashing daily.

In the cooler months, I tend to do rollersets and buns. In the Winter, I do buns with daily cowashing.

My regimen has changed as my hair retained length because I had different needs. But I pretty much stretch, at least 12 weeks, I've gone 16 before. And I DC every week with ORS Replenishing Packs.
