Okay, this is kinda going to be two questions in one, because I don't feel like starting two threads, and they are related, kinda.

1) If I wanted to make a low bun, and have a off center/angled part with it, how the heck would I do that? I've tried, and tried, but I can't figure out how to pull my hair back and keep the part! Could my hair just not be long enough, or am I missing some trick?

2) I henna my hair, and while it doesn't look much redder, I have some seriously red highlights. What color of fake hair would match that best - so that it's dark, but still has a 'reddish' glimmer to it, or am I better off just matching the 'dark' color, and fronting on the red?

Here are some pictures of my hair color (actual and perceived) as well as a pic of the sort of part I'm talking about.....

Actual color:

Color it usually looks like:

(pay me no mind, I was taking wild woman pictures.)

Part example:

I know my hair looks pulled back, but it was actually twisted on the sides to maintain the part.

Thanks for any help/suggestions/youtubes/hints ya'll can give me..... I really feel like I'm missing something, and it's not as difficult as I think it is (either question!)

Try to slick it down with a moisturizer so it keeps your part and makes it smooth.

That makes sense - I'm not so much worried about it being smooth, though. :look:

How do you pull the hair, to be exact? I try to kinda 'swoop' it around my head, so that it's pulled away from the part and back, at the same time, but it never seems to work out right......

Okay, I don't know if this makes sense but here goes

Moisturize your hair well. Don't try to swoop it, and don't comb it straight back either. You need to do a combination of the two. Once you accomplish the ponytail, tie your hair down for about 15-20 minutes. This will smooth it out (though I know you don't care about that :lachen:) and keep the shorter pieces from flying away. HTH.

I can't have a part with a puff. that is too much thinking for me. :)

With the Henna thing... This is one reason I have not hennaed yet.
I have too many hair pieces. :)

Totally OT - YOUR SKIN!!!!!! I love it!!!!! Flawless! :thud:

:scratchch Hrrrm. So the moisture is more to hold it in place, because I just plain can't pull/swoop it to the right place? I was hoping that wasn't the answer.
Because, see, if it is, that would require me getting my hair damp, and - yeah, not so much unless I'm DC'ing. Hrrrm, maybe I can do it ahead of time when I'm dc'ing like I do now.................

Danngone it! I think I look better with a part than just pulled straight back because of how rectangular my face is - it gives me a lil 'roundness'....

And thank you!! :look: I was actually staring at that picture, because of the 'Women who don't make any effort' thread, wondering what makeup someone who saw me barefaced would think I 'need'. *shrug* Meh. :lachen: That does remind me, someone I knew from high school and haven't seen in YEARS friended me on Facebook, and her first comment was how 'brave' I was for taking a picture without makeup. :look: I wasn't sure if she was trying to call me beastly on the slick, or giving me a compliment. :lachen:

You are on FB? Oh please be my friend.
My name.... Samantha Jones :yep:

I love my red highlights from henna! I also am a fake hair addict... and I've found that premium multi-blend hair is the best for matching. Outre Batik color #4 has an array of different colored strands mixed in, some more brownish, some more reddish, and overall it's brown. Does that make sense? :drunk: I find that it matches very well with my henna-lites!

Your hair looks a little bit darker than mine so you might wanna go with #2, but I reccomend (sp) the Batik hair highly. :yep:

ETA: I, like you, am usually barefaced. I only wear skirts/dresses. You will not find me in pants, period. Not even in a blizzard. So I wonder if I'm feminine or not? lol, I don't really care. I spend my days rearing my kids, maintaining my home, sewing and growing food for my family. If someone thinks I'd be more feminine by spending my time and money primping myself, *shrug* that's thier opinion.

That makes perfect sense! :yep:

:look: Does in come in a puff? That's what I'm thinking about, now, because I haven't seen any half-wigs that would even vaguely suit my style, and I'm sooo not getting a weave. If I even do braid my hair with extensions though, that's good to remember.

That's the life I want, and I'm working towards - this whole life energy in exchange for money gig is for. the. birds. My word, I can't wait for it! :yep:

My mom - NEVER wears make up. Just lipstick.
She is DROP dead Gorgeous - with Pokahontas' hair. (really)

You don't need make up to be beautiful.

Thanks for the Color tip!

i love ur hairrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...JK...my suggestion would be to make sure ur hair is moisturised and stretch, gel might do the trick too but it would have to be a moisturising gel with no cones...now about the highlights...all the fake afropuffs ive seen have one color, 1 , 1B, 2, 4, except this one brand i saw last week dont remember the name, it had reddish highlights but the red looks more like orange....anywho, id suggest trying to match the darker color cos ur probably gonna be weraing a scarf anyways right? HTH

Thank you!

I didn't plan on wearing a scarf - I wanted to get a puff, like the one SamJones is wearing, and do either a part and a baggy underneath the puff, or flat twists, or something along those lines. Yeah, if I was going to wear a scarf, I would just go with the darker shade, because not enough of my hair would be exposed to make it obvious that the puff wasn't mine.

Did you see it in a BSS, or online?

Love the nose ring! Sorry, no advice, just loving your naturalness. As for make up needs, chile please. If you must, put a little glimmer lip gloss, little mascara and rock it. Don't hide the beauty of your skin and features, it's not needed.

:giggle: When I do wear makeup, that's all I do - usually lipstick (which gets eaten off in 15/20 minutes and usually makes my lips peel/really dry) and eyeliner (because me in mascara = raccoon in an hour and the eyeliner usually doesn't smudge (as badly)).

That's me too. I only wear eyeliner and lipstick SOMETIMES. I mostly just try to keep the lips from looking like Pookie's on New Jack City! LOL! My lipstick gets eaten off too quickly too!:lachen: Why so little make up, the more I put on the more I look like a Kabuki actor or Baby Jane! In my case, less is more!

oh ok, id still go with a # 2 or 4, bcos the henna red is not that obvious when outside like in pic #3....i saw it in a BSS, next time i go ill get the brand name for you so u can see if they have other color combinations or if they sell it online

See, and I swear, I don't understand how folks lips get so ashy! I think it might have something to do with how much water I drink - if my lips feel dry that equals me being thirsty, and so I drink some water. I dunno. :look:

Ya'll got me sensitive bout my lips, now. ;)

:lachen: at Baby Jane!! My mom used to call me Bette Davis when I was younger, cuz I was such a drama queen. ;)

:lachen:NG, Another beauty queen....I wear make up once a week.. on Sundays... most times, because I am singing. I don't want to look Crazy in front of folks....

UPDATE!!!! I took a look at my pony....
Made by Sensationnel.... Instant Pony....
If you hit your local BSS, you should look for that Brand.

The only other brand is Troika.... They make the Kookie Kurls.

What I do for my parts are, first put a moisturizer near the parted hair, brush it through which will make it easier to manipulate. Then add some type of gel and style. This should keep the hair parted longer, usually lasts me a few days.
