So I joined this website about a month ago after several months of browsing and fell in love.. I learned so many things I never new about. So I decided to start my hair care journey starting with fixing my damaged, dry, breaking hair that went from healthy thick BSL to damaged BSL. My beautician suggested I cut it to SL and I should see impovement.. Well she lied it got worse.. Ive tried everything within the last month and nothig has helped.. When I say everything I mean EVERYTHING..

I tried all 3 supergirl methods.. Hard protein, ligh protein, moisutre, co washing, oils, deep conditioning, chelating, ACV, shower filter for hard water, supplements, braidouts, wet buns.. You name it ive tried it.. Ive spent hundreds of dollars on products and tools thats supposed to repair my damaged hair but yet nothing is working and it seems its getting worse by the minute..

So today Im moisturizing my hair and I parted it down the middle of my head with my fingers and noticed that a HUGE section of my hair was no more than 2 inches long and overall I am SL.. I literally fell out..

Once I got up off the floor and wiped my tears to get a better look because I thought I was dreaming but I wasnt I just sobbed for another half hour wondering how in the world my beautiful thick long healthy hair just went to hell and wont come back!!!

Im so fed right now im typing and crying at the same time.. Im so ready to GIVE UP!!!!

To be honest, if your hair is still breaking, it sounds like an internal problem. When is the last time you had a check up or got your iron count checked. Once you do eerything you can on the outside, the only thing left is the inside. HTH!

you cant repair damaged hair :nono:

you can only try to keep it on your head for as long as possible until you grow new healthy hair or cut it off

Im sorry this is happening to you but I agree w/her maybe you should go see a doctor? How is life like now? Are you stressing? Working to hard? What?

Bless your heart! Ok, stop crying, you've gotten that out of your system. Now, the positives. You still have hair and God still loves you...so do we. Now with that said, the poster before me has a point. You could have iron poor blood. Look internally. Drink plenty of water. If you're a big soda drinker, cut that out. Pick a regimen to stick with and see if you see any improvements. I would do lots of moisturizing DC's and light protein. It's not the end of the world lil sista', it'll be ok. The worst thing to do is panic. I hope many more come with advice. Sift through the info and find something to stick with. You're going to make it through this and push on. You will find an answer and you will be happy with the results. BELIEVE this, focus on it and it will happen. Good luck lil sista' and keep us posted.

Girl, I know and have been there RECENTLY! My problem was STRESS eating my hair up. It literally seemed to be matted and fused and less than an inch long in some spots! Stressing over your hair does not help it's condition. Try to relax. Find some positives. Study as much as you can on here, ask questions, and come up with a game plan that's reasonable and realistic and you will grow your hair back....I will, too.

There are some great things going on around here but everythign does not work for everybody. I think we are more likely to try and jump on some bandwagons when we are feelign desperate and so many of our LHCF sistahs are posting wonderful progress. Consistency and patience seem to really be key. It'll come back to you. Just try not to worry.

I feel your pain as I am going through the same thing. I applaud you for having the courage to post about it, because I was too, I dunno, ashamed to do so. That being said, I agree with MCrzyGr that it could be medical. I am going to the doctor on Saturday because I know I have been babying my hair and it is still thinning out/breaking ridiculously. I'm praying that it's nothing major, while hoping I can figure out what the heck is wrong with me. Trust me when I say I feel your pain...

It may be stress. It may even be stressing over your hair if there's nothing else that particularly comes to mind.

Externally, you may be doing too much too quickly to your hair. have you tried all of those products/methods just between october and now?? if so, then I don't think that can be any good! Find a routine that's not hurting your hair and stick with it for a while.

Internally... check your diet. Are you eating ok? How's your water drinking? Are your skin and nails unhealthy too? Consider taking supplements.

I am so sorry but it will grow in....I think keeping it simple is best...like wash once a week and deep condition and a protein every 2 weeks....

twice due to stress i lost the size of a quater i mean clean....IT came out!!!!!!!!

and it grew in....be patient nourish the spot that broke off and your hair will get better.....

OP I'm sorry your hair is giving you he** & I understand because mine is giving me crap too ****Hugs**** but I do agree with MCrzyGr :yep:
I have a checkup scheduled for tomorrow morning as a matter of fact because my hair is shedding left & right but nothing is giving me a long term solution.

Irresistible it took me a long time to realize the bolded. I used to buy every product under the sun trying to repair my damaged hair :nono: then I'd get upset if it didn't work :lachen:. Now I just use the great advice I get here and try to deal with it until I can do the BC. Love Love Love your hair btw

Thanks for the advice and the sympathy ladies.. Im going to schedule a doctors appointment because it has been a long time since ive got a checkup so maybe I can get some answers.. Im just so upset that I was once the girl that woman stopped in the street to compliment my hair and now its just a hot frizzy damaged mess and nothing im doing seems to help it.. And yes KIMBERELY I have jumped on a few bandwagons and fell off and its seems to have made things worse. But its like im not gonna know what works or doesnt work for me unless I try it but at the same time I think im just making the matter worse..

I just dont know what else to do...

Wow you are a sweeatheart, yeah I agree with you. Just pray for your hair like you pray for everything eles, I know I do, just try not to be stressed out, I remember these days back in high school, the beautician I went to had been breaking my hair, so I stopped going to her right away, I started letting my mom care for my hair and DC, and started nursing my hair back to good health, I use to stress so much about my hair, now I pray over it, and spend almost an intire day on it on every saturday. Keep us posted sweetie.

You're relaxed, right?

Have you changed your relaxer? Could you be over processed? Have you switched from lye/no lye?

Stress and malnutrition/insufficient nutrition might be a factor, but I'm curious as to what you did to damage it in the first place.

Sweetie it will never hurt to get a check up

Me being someone that lost half my hair due to illness, I listen to every word that might be a clue in posts, I DONT get it all right, but there is nothing in your original post that indicates this is medical

1 you said you were trying to fix damaged hair
2 you said your hair broke off in one section leaving you with two inches

If it were health related, it wouldnt be breaking leaving you with a healthy two inches, you would be losing it at the root

I know that its painful and frustrating to not be able to get this right and keep what you have already on your head-I started all over a few times-but I say if your hair is really damaged, dont do too much worrying over that hair just focus on the new healthy hair you have coming and just do your best to baby that hair, which no matter what you do still might break some-you can only help minimize it some, depending on the level of damage, your blessed to have learned and found new ways to avoid future damage-just try to look at it that way

I remember when I was transitioning and I had broken pieces, I didnt fret , I just knew it was the damaged hair falling off at the strong point of the healthy hair, just consider yourself transitioning from damaged hair to healthy hair

I know its gotta be frustrating to think you can keep the hair that you just cant/wont, but I bet all you are/were doing has helped tremendously to keep more of that hair on your head than if you werent doing those things

keep your head up, you got healthy hair coming your way with all you learned:yep::yep:

ur not defeated

Aw, I'm so sorry to hear that this is happening to you.

It could be stress, hormones (birth control), diet, chemicals, so many things. I see that you've tried a lot- maybe you should try to pick one regimen and stick to it for a while?? Your hair will grow & you will eventually overcome this problem. I wish you well.

....oh, and this has happened to many of us as far as the hair breaking/ falling out. Don't feel like you are alone.

ETA- Three things that simply cannot hurt your hair:
1. Stop relaxing
2. Stop using direct heat
3. Deep condition
4. Moisturizing

Since things are so uncertain, if I were you, I would just keep it simple. When I first joined, I used absolutely no heat or chemicals and spent a couple of months co-washing, moisturizing, and researching to find out what was best for me & my hair. If I had to style, I got a roller set done.

cut it and start over. that is just me talking. like i said before, all or nothing. i cut all of my hair off from a straightening disaster and it is growing back nicely and healthy again. you also need to get your stress levels in check and check your diet. i know that what i'm saying is extreme, but girl once the damage it done, no sense in holding on to it, looking crazy.

I suggest you write down everything you are using at each wash. It seems like you are doing so much that it might be hard to pinpoint were exactly most of this is coming from. By writing things down, you can see what is going on week by week.

yeah knowing what damaged it in the first place is the biggest answer for prevention in the future

I dont even know where to begin to tell folks how to have healthy relaxed hair because I never had it

but since many do, there must be ways, for some, but the hair thats already damaged just dont stay on the head for long , methods and products can only prolong its life on the head some but when the healthier hair starts to come in, its going to be more and more difficult and tricky to keep that weaker/damaged hair hanging on at the demarcation point of the healthy hair

OP it does sound like you were doing alot at once, I also agree with slowing it down and sticking with the things that are the basics that you know will help and be safe and simple all at once, meanwhile finding whats going to work for your hair and like gymfreak said writing it down as you go

whatever the case, calm down and just know this too shall pass:yep:

Thanks guys... Im guessing it could have been me switching from lye to no lye which was years ago. I was using optimum mild before they changed the product then I went to mizani no lye but I really didnt know there was a difference between the two.. I always had breakage from that point but never this bad.. And yes my stress level is high with my job and other things are contributing but im working on trying to keep it down but its just so hard right now.. But thanks for all the support ladies I just have to find a way to just to chill and not worry but im the type of person that stresses EVERYTHING no matter what the issuse.. And thats something I know I need to change..

Ok ive calmed down and done venting.. Thanks for listening..

Thank you your very sweet... I really appreciate it...

... So sorry to hear this. Well, I can totally relate. First you must stick to a hair regimen and not switch around so much. The more you think about the damage the more you will see of it. Believe me I know. I never had thick hair, but I had MBL in high school and now at 29 I'm trying to get BSL. It will take time. But start today and love your hair as it is... Try to do that, it will help tremendously.

Msstarr, have you read the breakage 101 thread by sisterslick? It could be a simple thing as your moisture and protein balance is off. When your hair is wet does it seem mushy or like wire? Seeming that you've recently been on a few bandwagons such as light protein, high protein, etc., you're hair could easily have too much protein in it. I'm glad you've calm down, you're in the right place for a solution. I truly think you'll be ok, don't give up.

I'm so sorry for your setback. Hopefully your healthcheck will turn up with no problams. How are your fingernails? Sometimes fingernail health and hair health go hand in hand. If your fingernails are thriving, then you may not have a health problem(hopefully). How is your water intake? Do you take any multivitamins? Have you changed your diet? Have you changed or adopted a new workout regimen? What types of products do you use regularly on your hair? What were you doing to get to BSL before. As stated before, you can't repair damaged hair, only grow healthy hair and cut it off as you grow. Was your sylist who told you about the damage, the same one who had been taking care of your hair?

Tell us more details about your hair and we may be able to help you figure out some helpful products or processes/treatments. Also, how is the climate in your area? if it is unusually cold, you may be suffering from winter dryness.

Well I silk wrap my nails and they grow very fast. They are never exposed so when I take the wrap off to get a new one my nails are weak but I figured its because of the wrapping and acrylic but I do notice my toenails are very weak and they break very easily other than that they are healthy looking besides being fragile.. I just started taking a mutlivitamin, biotin and msm and I drink 65 oz of water everyday maybe some cranberry or apple juice and I dont drink soda. I was going to a dominican stylist and they dont really care for hair they just style it so I kept asking her what to do and she kept saying my hair is fine and then she cut it and it was still breaking.. I got to bsl because ive been bsl all my life since I was younger. It would get alittle shorter than that from trims and stuff like that but never anything this short and thats why im taking this so hard.. Ive always had beautiful long healthy hair.. I live in NYC so I wouldnt say its the weather because its been breaking since the summer and just getting worse as the days goes by.. I dont use excessive heat rollerset after wash, co washing as of last month and wet bunning and braidouts.. No flatironing I used to blow the roots but I stopped that once I noticed extreme breakage..

it took time for your hair to become damaged and it will take time for you to get it back to where it was. take the advice of all the lovely ladies on LHCF who have been through your situation, look at some inspirational threads, and take it one day at a time. the suggestion to write down everything you use and WHEN you use it is a great one. once a month, give us updates. before you know it, you will look back on this moment and smile because it was a new beginning for you and your hair. <3

see what happens if you stop wet bunning. For me, it makes matters worse, mushy hair which turns to split ends when it is dry so I stopped that a long time ago.

I went through this right before I found this site. Hair was falling out in one area and my nails stopped growing. Come to find out I had a hormonal imbalance, but grace be to God things turned around. My suggestion, go to the doctor's office or a dermatologist ASAP, don't hold off to figure it out on your own. Trust that you will end up sending alot more money on things that wont help. Leave your hair alone, the less you do to manipulate the better. Good luck and God bless
