Why do my favorite styles take so long?

When I was relaxed, it was rollersets. Now that I'm natural, it's twists. The payoff is wonderful, but the process sucks. I even have the nerve to think about rollersetting my natural hair soon.

The only positive thing about the twisting process is that I can do it at my leisure and throw on my Snood if I have to leave the house. But who wants to walk around with a half-done head?

Do your favorite styles/processes take a long time, or am I just inept?erplexed

Yes!!! I love twist but I don't want to devote three hours of my day doing them, and that doesn't include washing and deep conditioning!!!! When I was relaxed my rollersets took forever to dry. I want to try a rollerset then flat iron but I don't have the patience. Let me know how your rollerset turns out. If it works for you I may try it.

I don't think I'll be doing a rollerset anytime soon. When I was relaxed, they took about 4.5 hours. I imagine it will take even longer natural, and with the holidays coming, I don't have that kind of time.

I'll be starting my twists this evening...hopefully I'll be done tomorrow afternoon. Oh well, at least they last two weeks, then I can do a twistout for a week. The payoff is good, but dang! Someone needs to invent a twisting machine, like that Barbie toy that came out a few years ago. Hmmm...

I agree!!! You should come up with that invention I would buy it. I have been putting off twisting for days. I think I may wash and go it for the week and put twist in on sunday. Then by the time Christmas rolls around I can have a rocking twistout!!!!

Actually they do have a twisitng machine for extensions. so Im wondering if it possible to do with ur own hair.

Yes, but in my mind, technically, no.

Twists, for me, take 3 hours, and I do them once a week. If I was fiddling with my hair every day - that would give me less than 30 minutes a day to do something with my hair - which seems to be on the low side of average (there was a poll on that, at some point). So yeah, while it takes longer on the front end, over all, it averages out.

If I kept them in longer, it would be even better.

At least that's how I've rationalized it.

I think length will be bittersweet. Longer hair means more styling options, but that also means more time twisting.

my twists take a long time, but i do them very small. i'm not as slow as i used to be. it would be an all day thing. if i start around 4pm (without being bothered) i can finish around 6-7pm.

yeah what you said! it would take me at 2.5 to 3 hours under the dryer when i was relaxed. i would see so many women coming and going. i used just consider that to be nap time.

Yes. Rollersetting still takes me forever. So now, I just do ponytail rollersets. Much faster.

What I've noticed though - the longer the hair, the bigger the twists can be, and still look really good - and the bigger the twist, even as it gets longer, should balance out to be about the same amount of time - considering how long it takes me to part, it actually might be faster. :scratchch Hrm. I'll have to change my detangling method, too. I figure that by the time I'm BSL, I'll be rocking ten twists, or so - esp. if I'm still wearing them in an updo? Yum. I can only imagine how thick they will be!

This is a good point! When I first big chopped, I tried to do, like, 14 twists and it looked a hot steaming mess. I can imagine being able to do it with longer hair.

@women coming and going. I could never take naps though...it was just too darn hot under there. I'd be sweating and itching and fidgeting, moving rollers around and such.

I think that as you do it more often, the entire twisting process will take less time-you will become really fast at it. I can do small twists in 1-1 1/2 hrs. But I have done twists a lot and when I start- i go fast and don't stop.

I'm starting to dread my rollersets. My arms hurt sooo bad. It takes me anywhere from 1 1/2 hours to 3 hours to rollerset. Luckily my dryer has a "hell" temp so it doesn't take me that long to dry, eventhough I'm dehydrated most of the time from sitting under it.

, I have salon dryer by Sanlan Hairdressing Industrial Co. and I turn that baby up to the max, LOL. From start to finish it probably takes me about 2 hrs, which is good because it use to take me longer when I first started rollersetting my hair.

It takes me about 3 1/2 years to wash, dc and rollerset

It's annoying, but I only do it every so often, so.... erplexed

I do fat twists now, so, they take about 1 to 1-1/2 hrs to complete on wet hair. I just can't stomach any longer.

Yes, they take a long time, and that's why I don't do them. Screw whoever doesn't like my hair.

I just big ugly twists and pin them up. Takes about 30 minutes after a wash.

How do you manage to get a twistout to last a week? What do you do to it at night before bed?

I stopped doing two-strand twists because they took WAY to long. I am currently in love with finger coils which take me about 1 to 1.5 hours to complete (not counting the washing and DC). They last about 5 days and then I wear a coil out for 4 to 5 days and then start all over again.
