Ok so I recently relaxed my hair after being nature for 5 years. Since I recently did another big chop about 6 months ago, I have a short relaxed style. So here are my issues:

1) I can't stop touching and combing my hair. We have 4 bathrooms here and every time I walk past a mirror, I just got to touch my hair and it always seems like one hair is out of place so I just got to comb/rake comb it back in place. I touch and comb my hair every single day several times a day. I don't know what it is but I just can't help it. With my natural hair, I would twist it up and forget about it for weeks so I don't know why I just can't seem to do the same with my relaxed hair. Honestly it's starting to annoy me but argh I just can't help it :perplexed

2) So because of frequent touching, combing and playing in my hair my hair is shedding and breaking more. I am thinking about hiding it in a wig or weave but then doesn't that defeat the purpose of relaxing it to wear it out straight. :wallbash::wallbash:

I am starting to frustrate myself :look:
Oh and since everyone likes to see pictures here you go

And

I'm not sure what advice to offer. Probably covering it up will only be a temporary solution to the HIH disease. Hopefully it will pass with time. Bumping for other advice for you.

maybe you're just temporarily fascinated with your relaxed hair since you were natural for 5 years. Maybe once the novelty wears off you will be fine.

How long have you been relaxed? I don't think wearing a wig/weave defeats the purpose, whatever helps.

And

when my hair was relaxed and short like that, i would have it styled. i was too busy try to keep my style to last that i wouldn't touch it. try a new style. curl it, spike it, flip it, etc...

maybe get some braids...i get the hands in hair symdrome sometimes too..that means i have to keep my hair up most of the time...when its down, i always have to brush it or put it back into place or comb a stray hair...

Sounds like you are newly relaxed and once the novelty wears off, the HIH disease will correct itself.

I feel the same. I think when we first make a change AND we like the change... the way it looks and the way it feels is just so fascinating. I'm just getting to the point that my hands are not glued in my hair (lol). I'm still touching it a lot more than I should but I'm getting better each week...although I have done 3 rinses this week and am thinking about another one tonight (my hair is short also, so it drys super fast and it's soooo soft, I just love my hair...I digress we're talking about getting better). Anyway, as I said, I see a change in the "touch" frequency as time goes on.

edited to say: Your hair looks nice.

Hey ChiChi...like others have said, I think its the novelty. Once it gets old you'll lose the urge to touch it all the time.

Don't worry, its just a phase. Soon you'll realize that whatever state (natural or relaxed) your hair is in, it will require a lot of thoughtful maintenance to keep it healthy, and looking good.

I'm natural with a twa and I can't keep my hands out of my hair. :lachen: I just love it. Your hair looks gorgeous in your pictures, OP. I just don't know what advice to give you.
