was a success! Thanks to all of the knowledge found on these boards.
Based on what I read here I found that mushy porous hair is generally in need of more protein for balance. My hair has been that way all my life! So I just thought it was normal. But you guys and Aphogee changed all that today. I was originally drawn to the ayurvedic powders to find balance of strength and moisture for my hair but I was only able to find the powders online. While I wait for them to arrive I wanted to do something to aid in the health of my hair after removing the micros that I've had in for over 3 months. I know, I know... so bad! So I decided to do a hard protein today. I read everything I could, closed my eyes to the horror stories, and plowed ahead. Here's how it went down:
I took my micros out today. Since I came across Ladykpnyc on youtube a month ago (my hair is very much like hers) I'd made a mixture of aloe vera juice, glycerine and infusium and had been spraying them daily on my braids for moisture and health. The braids came out as easily as they could under the circumstances and I could already tell my hair wasn't quite as "mushy" as it normally is when I take out my braids with cholesterol conditioner. I then patiently removed the dust bunnies left behind at the base of each braid and removed shed hairs with a large tooth comb. I lost much less hair than when I'm normally removing my braids and was feeling quite proud of myself.
Then came time for the Aphogee.
For the most part I followed MsEmryee's (sp?) hard aphogee advice. I clarified my hair twice until it was squeaky so the protein could penetrate. I used clips to minimize tangling because I usually have a HUGE tangling problem as soon as water hits my hair after micros. The protein treatment went very smoothly, albeit a bit messy. Turned hard under the heat of my hand held blow dryer. I did a quick cowash after that followed by a DC under heat with a mixture of aphogee hot oil treatment and ORS olive oil replenishing pack
. My first time using either of those and this stuff smells divine!!
I then did an oil rinse to detangle following Sareca's tips and I lost all of THREE HAIRS!
I've never ever combed my hair without coming away with a handful. I can usually literally hear my hair popping as I come through it; wet, dry or otherwise. I had lost hope! But this is the answer for me. I'm so grateful.
I have a natural head of hair that I never really thought I could grow any longer than it is now (because of the breakage) but now there is certainly hope. I can't wait to see what my hair can do with proper care. Even as I took it out today I was shocked at how long it had gotten while in the braids. It's between my shoulder blades, stretched. And now it's strong, to boot!
