I don't know if I can say that my hair doesn't behave w/o water, because it seems to be on its best behavior when left alone in braids and twists and if I baggy nightly. That said, since I don't use leave-in products, then washing my hair whenever it feels dryish is a habit of years. I do believe conditioning plays it's part too though, as water alone would dry to crisp hair. But CW or wash and conditioner, then ACV rinse, and my hair dries to a soft good girl.
Glad to hear, my hair can't BEHAVE WHEN IS DRY!! THe roots feel extremely soft but the ends...get dry and oh lord. I use care free curl but that ish doesn't moisturize anything. When Im wearing my hair out, I have to wet it in order to apply products or slick in back in a headband or something...
In its dry state......OMG! Thats a different story!
How do you do the ACV RINSE, can you please explain?TIA
Ooh, ooh, ooh!!! Today marks exactly one year into my transition!! Yay me! Anyhoo, when it's not straightened, my hair is ALWAYS wet. Always. I don't do braids and the like and I'm just really getting into twists so my only other option is wet/damp hair. Anything else would just be uncivilized. My hair would act a donkey.

I think most naturals are 'wet heads' lol

Lately I've been washing my hair, section by section in 7-8 braids and untangling each section, braiding back up until it dries and then putting in it a bun. This last time, I forgot to add a leave-in and it worked out just fine.
So now you got me thinking...I used to put tons of leave-in when I would wet bun my hair now I'm thinking I don't have to. At this rate, I can increase washing my hair, and DC-ing to X2/week. I've been putting the DC on dry hair and washing it out in the shower (1 time in the shower).
You're gonna make a thread with 23984792837 pictures for this right?![]()
I wet my hair nightly and I have to dilute my liquid leave-ins with filtered water. I just went to the Indian store at lunch and bought nine bottles of rose water. It is only $1.29 for a seven ounce bottle, so I stocked up as I do not get there often. I usually pour my leave-ins in an 18 ounce spray bottle and fill up half with water. Now, I will use half filtered water and half rose water as I love how soft rose water makes and keeps my hair. I have cut down on the amount of product I use in my hair after CO washing at night or rinsing as too much product dries my hair when airdrying. I also usually rewet my hair in the morning in the back before bunning. My hair seems to like that alot -- just rewetting after I applied product and let air dry the night before. I just took my hair down and it has dried so moist and soft. It is funny that I used to be afraid of water hitting my hair all my life until three years ago and it turned out that water is absolutely the best thing for it.
Uh oh...got you thinking huh?
Well, I started this no-product regimen by accident. Before finding out about hair forums, I had come across a website www.blackwomenrejoice.com that shared a regimen that helped Brenda, the owner, to grow her hair long. She basically shared a lot of the things we read here about moisture being good and that grease isn't necessary and that washing the hair often wasn't bad coz water was moisture. Anyway, I misunderstood the regimen and thought that it said no moisturizers at all were needed. I therefore just started washing my hair whenever it felt dry or CW-ing while in braids and trimming every 6-8 weeks as I redid the braids and was happy with how my hair was doing. Before I completed two years of that regimen, I found this forum and read about how important using moisturizers was (I found Cathy Howse's book around then too). I also discovered that there are people who, like Cathy, didn't believe that trimming the hair was necessary. So I tried to adopt these new habits and my hair thinned (probably from not trimming), plus I hated the feel of product on my neck and face (braid spray). The extra vitamins I started to take too didn't seem to make much difference to me--not to mention what a pain it was to take so many extra supps. So I wondered why I ever tried to fix what wasn't broken. I returned to my no-product regimen and basic supplements, and I've been doing OK.
I only do this no-leave-in regimen when I'm wearing my hair in braids or twists and therefore not manipulating it much. When I plan on wearing my hair in a style that requires combing, eg an afro puff, I make sure to load my hair with S Curl or Hawaiian Silky my two favorite products. But I have to admit that at the end of the day when I retwist my hair for the night, nothing makes me happier than to wash my hair and condition and airdry with nothing on. I love the smell and feel of my hair after a wash with nothing on it. I'm also a cheaposo this no-product regi works very well for me, not to mention that I think it has something to do with my skin being clear. Hair products it seems used to break me out (I think
).
