Alot of people have made comments on various threads about how there hair has thickened since becoming members. Could you please tell how and what you did to achieve your thicker tresses?

The longer your hair grows the thicker it will get. You just have to have good protein moisture balance to reduce breakage. HTH

My hair became thicker when I:
  1. Stopped relaxing straight and began texlaxing instead
  2. Stretching my relaxers...now I'm up to relaxing at 13 weeks, formerly I relaxed at 6-8 weeks
  3. While doing a relaxer touchup, began covering my previously-relaxed ends with oil, to prevent further processing as the relaxer cream is being rinsed out
  4. Exercising regularly and eating healthier including increasing my protein intake and drinking lots of water
  5. Moisturizing my ends daily and keeping them from rubbing against rough surfaces

What she said...:yep:

my hiar thicked up when i:
started relaxing only 2 times a year.
up'd my moisture and protein balance.
started using follicle invigorator on my scalp.
moisturize and seal my ends every day and night.

It was a number of things for me. I believe:

Switching from No-lye to Lye relaxer. Lye relaxer are more gentle on my hair than no-lye.

Covering my previous relaxed hair with chi-silk protein, evoo oil and conditioners before applying my relaxer. You must check out Redhotlala's Relaxed Thick Hair in her Fotki and her Relaxer tips in her journal. http://members.fotki.com/redhotlala/about/

Doing a protein treatment a week prior to relaxing my hair and doing a light protein treatment after rinsing all the relaxer from my head before I neutralize.

Last but not least sealing my ends with oil after I moisturize and deep conditioning once a week.

Forgot to add:
Stretching relaxer application to every 8 -12 weeks
Using less heat to style hair
Dusting ends
Sleeping with a satin bonnet or pillow case

Thanks ladies for sharing. I've been playing with the thought of relaxing again, but doing it right this time around. You all have offered so much that I really feel that I can achieve the thickness and length I want.

MoniGirl- redhotlala's fotki has left me in ahhhh...I heart her hair.

I just relaxed today from no lye to lye, so far so good :grin:the lye leaves my hair more moisturized, with the no lye i had to moisturize 3 x's a day no joke:nono::nono: i texturized it (1st time...the rest of my hair is bone straight) and it allowed me to keep some of my texture and my hair was def. thicker when i put it in a bun it looked so much more fuller i can tell my hair is definately on the right path

Ooooww weeh!!! I am so excited for you. I know how you feel. Congrats and welcome to the Lye side. LOL!!! I must tell you the 1st time I use Lye relaxer instead of my no-lye. I noticed everytime I relaxed with No-lye I would shed so much when I would be washing my conditioner out. Every single time and I got use to it but when I used my 1st Lye which was Vitale Olive Oil Lye relaxer that didn't happen anymore.

thank youuu LOL, i was getting shedding too but i dont know if it was the no lye or the MT with the shedding either way i wasnt feelin it, im gonna get the garlic supplements so i can combat this from the inside out.
I used Hawiian Silky Mild, i might use regular next time and mix with EVOO and see how that goes:yep:

I relaxed on Tuesday with MBB. No burns (which I always experienced in the past).

MoniGirl- your siggy is hawt. That is some excellent growth. Also, congrats on the pregnancy.

well im natural but i think my hair got thicker still from using chlorella supplement and mn i noticed i think that with both for sure

When I started taking vitamins and ACV, my hair dressers couldn't stop talking about how fast and thick my hair was growing. Same thing when I did OPing. I had new growth after three or four days! I stopped doing it because I had to get relaxers more often!

the only way i can get thicker hair is when my hair is even in length. this is also why i like blunt hair cuts. so basically regular(not frequent) trims:look:

Before I cut my hair I really thickened it up by -

1. Stretching relaxer from 6 weeks to 12-14 weeks
2. Using a wide toothed comb like jilbere
3. If I need a smaller teeth comb I use a seamless comb
4. Combing less
5. Being more gentle with handling
6. More deep conditioning- moisture and deep
7. OCT

use lighter products on my head
