I feel I have to do this the proper way
"Hi! my name is Belle, and I'm going natural." this is when you all say "HI BELLE!" lol My older sister "caribeandiva" told me today "if you try to fight your hair, your hair always wins" that was after I finally told her I'm going natural. I'M MUCHO EXCITED!!!! WOW! A DARK HAITIAN GIRL WITH LONG CURLY LOCKS? umm... That's something you don't see everyday. I'm fed up with my relaxed hair. My hair always looks like it needs a relaxer even though I get them lol. My friends will tell me I need to get a relaxer right after I get one. lol I'm finally listening to my hair. I vow to get no more relaxers and this is where I'm going to need all of your help ladies.

Yeah! damn is RIGHT! lol it gets tangled easily. I don't know what my hair type is but I know it will have a very pretty texture when I go natural. I need all of the information I can get ladies such as:
1) When to start cutting my relaxed ends
2) Curl definning products
3) regimens
4) straightening
etc...

LET ME KNOW EVERYTHING BECAUSE I WILL BE REFFERING BACK TO THIS THREAD A LOT.

I SAID "HAIR, DO YOU THINK YOU CAN HANDLE ANOTHER RELAXER?"
MY HAIR SAID " F*** IT, LET'S GO NATCHAL:yay:"

I hope I can be an inspiration one day... I know my locks will be gorgeous! Thank you sexita:rosebud:

i agree....cut now...forget an inch go 3 to 4inches lol ( this says the girl that transitioned by cutting every other week :look: ) I love shea butter as well. I dont know about the aloe vera gel...still trying to learn how to use it. I would encourage you to moisturize. I didnt when I was transitioning and now I am regreting it:wallbash: Invest in Jojoba, avocado, coconut and olive oils. Cholesterol and protein treatments. Go to www.growafrohairlong.com It tells you how to wash, condition, braid etc. I still go to the website on a regular basis. I wish you well in your journey:grin:

Thank you "dyamonds10" I will definitely check out growafrohairlong.com and get my ish right lol. My hair is actually in weave right now and I expect it to stay for 3 months at the most so by that time, I will already have my products.

Invest is right...BUT they are so worth it...I so swear by coconut oil, castor oil, and olive oil....almond oil too...need to get up the nerve to kick back 10 bux for the jojoba at vitamine shop but definitely get the oils....they are the best....I put the castor oil on my ends at night after I moisturize and I have a mix of all the above oils that I seal with.....last night I was at the vitamine shop and sa the aloe gel and my hair was feeling unmoisturized (sudden drop in temp and humidity) and thought alright whatever then I bought a spray bottle and came home and got on here to see how others used it....so I just sprayed it all over my head and scalp and massaged...went after it with some shea butter went to sleep and woke up with hair like butter...then I washed this morning and used it to moisterize with the shea butter and braided it and its feeling good so far...used the google feature and google the aloe....I need to figure out how to make my own shealoe stuff... I hope this helps girl

I think that you should cut a couple of inches and then transition for a while.. how long were you thinking about transitioning?

Until my all of my relaxed ends are cut and all of my hair is natural. I will get my hair trimmed after I take this weave out lol. I want to slowly transition into natural. probably trim every 3 months or so.

I LOOOOOVE COCONUT OIL. I hear it goes the deepest into the hair shaft. Do you also do MN? and Baggies?

Well maybe you should get braids or kinky twists or something... I transitioned for 10 months before I did the BC...

Sak ap fet ayisyen!!! :wavey: I feel you, you definitely don't see a lot of dark skinned haitians with long natural hair! Represent girl!

I love me some shea butter, coconut oil, mango butter and avocado butter. Aphogee Intensive works for me as a good protein treatment, but it doesn't work for everybody. I use fantasia ic protein gel for my puffs. But when it comes to curl definition, I'm still working on finding something good too. Make sure you deep condition often. I use cholesterol as a DC once a week and add oils to it. I rarely shampoo, usually cowash. Henna is also fabulous as a deep conditioning treatment. I could go on an on about maintaining natural hair, but in the end you have to do what works for your texture.

growafrohairlong is a great site. I check that site often as well.

I did do MN a while ago... mixed it with some sulfur 8 and tea tree oil and a ton of peppermint BUT I hated the smell and was getting aggitated using it every night I dont really baggie any more...I just moisturize and seal every night and get up take out my braids and fluff it up and do my puff....when I feel like switching it up I will blow dry ( used to be evry other week now its like once a month or every two months if that) and and before washing out my blow dry when the edges get frizzy I do some bantu knots and slick the edges down and rick it like that....I really hope this helps for you...Im thinkin of doin some Kiya Fizzies and Moe Gro Oil while Im in my kinky twists...I also massage my scalp every night while I moisturize and seal....I watch TV and just sit there with my hands in my hair massaging and if Im lucky the boo will do it for me ( I love scalp massages)

I've been hearing a lot about scalp massagers... what do they look like and how can I get one.. (I wonder if anyone's ever used their vibrator for a scalp massage) lol. I know massages are good because it stimulates blood flow.

:lachen:you're so funny! I love reading your thread cause they're so entertaining. I'm glad you took my advice (you actually listen to me!). This won't be easy. You know what they say: "Nothing in life comes easily. Anything worthy, you have to fight for".

:yay::yay:Congrats!!! Welcome to the nappy side!!!

However, remember going nappy is a mental transition as well. If you don't transition your mind as well as your hair you will go right back to the "creamy crack"

Oh and visit www.roshini.net. She hasn't updated in 100 years but she has a KILLER site. She has been nappy since 2002 so the site is full of info!

BelleBebe, conditioner washing has come back into my regimen and saved me a lot of tangling. Cowboy Magic helped post pooing but con-shampoo has given me wonderful waves and I'm very happy...no locking thus far.

GURRRL If you think those five or six sections of hair clumped together are dread locks, wait till your natural and its all one big massive clump :lachen:
oooowweee

ok just kidding......

but not really tho :look:

*ahem* anywayyyy girl,
like someone said 'transitioning the mind' is so very important to succeed at this:yep:

good luck and you know we are always here if you need anything:yep:

as far as the things you inquired about

Curl definition products , they never worked for me, although I didnt try many  but I love oils and butters (I might as record that and play it over and over when needed cause everybody already knows that one :lachen:)
Regimen, you kinda have to build that as you go trying new things and finding out what your hair likes and doesnt
straightening-lots of threads on that around here

since you are transitioning slowly , you have the time to invest and learn and thats the best thing you can possibly do first:yep:

good luck with your journey. be prepared to absolutely hate your hair at any given stage while you are going thru this. You are used to dealing with your hair one way. Its like an old friend. Your natural hair will be a new friend. You may not like her at times, she may frustrate you, and you may want to cuss her the **** out at times, but if you are going to keep her around, you have to learn to love her, recognize her limitations, and celebrate her beauty.

If your hair doesnt naturally curl you could drown in curl definition products and they wont work. Keep an open mind about what your hair is and might do.

Good luck

where do you all get your shea butter from?

oh and i'm transitioning right now, and just try not to stress about it. Sometimes i think people get overly involved in the transitioning and that can be just as bad.

I love how all of you ladies are being so straight foreward lol. I will be aware of these issues... I will learn a lot about my hair and I'm excited.

Hey Belle, I'm newly natural so I dont have much advice. I just wanted to come in and congratulate you on your decision to go natural!! When I made the decision to go natural I was a little worried about it at first and the transition was hard which worried me but now that I've chopped...I wish I had done it years ago!!!!! I loooove my natural hair and you will too!! I agree with one of the posts that suggested growafrohairlong.com. That website is very helpful. Also, reading books on natural curly hair care has helped me tremendously. Of course LHCF is a GREAT help and the ladies have already provided great advice! Good luck on your journey and HHG!!!
