and it was from a white girl at that!

so with the onset of fall i figured, hey a chance to wear a straighter hairstyle right... so i rollerset my hair under the dryer and wrapped it overnight, then wore it in a loose ponytail the next day at work (server). afterwards i wore it down to my 2nd job (call center). so, the white girl i work with is 7 months preggers and has curly hair (think 3b) that is maybe BSL unstraightened. we've had conversations about how difficult it is to straighten our hair and then keep it straight if there is even a hint of moisture in the air, etc. so she immediately waddles over  and says "wow, you straightened your hair!" i just grin and say yeah, it's fall i wanted to do something different. i am organizing papers and stuff, not paying attention to her... suddenly i feel a hand in my head and feel a light tug.

i stopped what i was doing and turned around in slow motion, looking at her like she was crazy... and said, "did you just weave check me?"

she turned bright red and was like, "omg i didn't know i was that obvious your hair is so much longer and thicker than i thought it would be straightened i just knew you had some tracks in there somewhere!" i thought i would be mad but for some reason i started laughing so hard that i was crying... other people started coming into work and kept asking me what was so funny, which just made me start cracking up all over again.

still laughing today as i write this... i wonder if she will even speak to me tonite or still be too embarrassed... :lachen:

Hahahaha....That would have not went over so smoothly with me...I hate people touching my and if I would have felt a tug ..That would have pushed me over the edge.....

I still need to pray on that one.....I really really dont like people in my personal space

Wow I commend you for your reaction, but then again I don't think I would've screamed on a pregnant chick anyway. That's one of those instances where I'm not sure if its a compliment or an insult.

Ugh, what is wrong with people? For some reason, I have never felt the urge to put my hands in anyone else's head that I wasn't related to.

Anyway, I'm glad you could laugh about it.

Cute story... I think I would've been like WTF at first... but then again its a compliment all in its self. She obviously feels comfortable around you...because you know most of "them" aren't too bold :look:

The two of you must be really good pals is all I have to say...:look:

For real. With my reflexes, her weave check would have been followed up with a chin check. :look: I can't stand ish like that. Ask me first don't put your hands in my hair and def do not pull on it. Q

it is a funny story. i love reading these but why don't people just ask? it confuses the h*** out of me. if you ask me, i will tell you if i'm wearing a weave. why would someone lie about smthg as simple as that? some people...

I agree. I don't like "weave checks" because its very disrespectful. I mean, what IF it was a weave and she pulled it out?? People don't think about that. I wouldn't be offended if someone asked me if my hair was weave, but **** don't run your hands or touch my hair checking for it! :nono:

Well I guess it wasn't in too tight, lol.

kinda funny but y'all must be really tight cos I don't like people in hair if you're not related. Even then

Something is WRONG with people!!?? Like - WTF!? I'm glad you were nice about it, but you should tell her when you see her next time not to try that on anybody else, cuz preggars or not, the next person might hurt her feelings.

Who does she think she is, Barbara Walters? :look:

See this is why there need to be more of us.
If it was a more common sight, people might stop
forgetting their manners when they see it.

Lovely hair OP!

lady libra,

you know you are one of my hair mentors.

sorry, still would have slapped old girl's hand. preggers or not.

your hair looks great!

hee hee, you ladies have me cracking up all over again :lachen:

i always thought i'd be pissed if it ever happened to me... i was just so caught off guard... a friend who i talk hair with? i just assumed as a fellow curly-girl she would understand the concept of shrinkage and all. :look:

and she was still very embarrassed today. ah, i hope she knows she will never live this down...

You shocked the heck out of her didn't you? I guess she didn't fully grasp the concept of "our" shrinkage:lol:.

Relative or stranger, please, respect my space:nono: A lady admired my hair today, but she ASKED how I got it looking so good, I told her "I put it on":lachen::lachen:If she had come tugging I would have elbowed her good!!!

I don't know what people like that are thinking! If a person IS wearing tracks and someone pulls their hair to check, are they hoping the tracks will fall out?

She should be embarrassed. WTH would anyone touch another person's hair and then tug it?
It's just rude. I've never thought to do that, no matter how curious I was about the realness of hair.
