How do you take Spirulina/Chlorella/some other nasty tasting supplement?

I just purchased some Spirulina from the health food store on Friday because I heard what an excellent supplement it is, but the only problem is...that ish taste straight RANK :nono:. At first I tried to just take it straight and then swig water behind it. Big mistake on my part. I thought I'd never get that taste out of my mouth. Then I tried mixing it in water, and it made the water all thick and chunky, almost resulting in me losing my lunch, lol. Now I want to try mixing it in some sort of pudding or shake to make it more palatable. So ladies, you have any suggestions?
 
probably should get pills next time. but I second mixing it in smoothies. I have a gross veggie drink from GNC that I mix with grape juice and it helps to keep my lunch down, lol
 
I usually make a shake with spiru-tein powder, green vibrance powder, wheat grass powder, fresh fruit and very vanilla silk or oj and maybe add some ice.

I hear apple, carrot and ginger helps with the taste.

I will never ever drink a shot of wheat grass alone or chased by an orange slice, that stuf is vile yuk yuk yuk!
 
I take the tablets, been taking them for years. I never noticed that they has a taste to them.
 
Well try clumping it up in some natural apple sauce--don't mix it just clump it up in a gigantic spoon and swallow. Pills are fine, but 2 issues can arise: 1. if you already take more than 3 it becomes a hassle. 2. your body has to work a lot harder to digest and get it to where it needs to go (a lot of work); lastly, I've read from several sources that there is a significant amount of the pill that is lost through the digestion process. :ohwell:
 
I bought the powder because I would have had to take six pills vs. one teaspoon of the powder per serving. I figured the powder would last longer, but the taste is awful. I've been pretty much taking it straight and swigging water behind it.
 
Those items that you mentioned are so rich in minerals and nutrients... Have you tried making a paste of it with some other natural agents like olive oil or honey and applying to your hair like a deep conditioner (with plastic cap either under a dryer or hot towel for a while, then wash)? This way, you may be able to get some benefit without gagging.

Thanks for the advice! I've actually mastered how to take spirulina internally now. I just toss it in the back of my mouth and chug on some water :lachen:. I've gotten used to the taste. I have thought about using it externally but I'm a cheapskate and I don't want to waste it taking it both internally and externally. The benefits will go to my hair if I take it internally, as well as the rest of my body. I may try to make a past of it like you said to try it out and see if I like it. It could be a great nutrifier like the Brahmi powder I have and will save me the effort of ordering it online.
 
Hmm Maybe I should try mixing mine in pudding. I just bought mine so I'm going to try mixing it in a smoothie. Chocolate pudding might be tasty though. Anyone tried? Could someone do it and let me know? LOL
 
My throat will not open for anything that is nasty. I mix it with GRAPEFRUIT JUICE and you don't even taste the spirulina/chlorella. All you taste is the grapefruit juice.

It's much easier to take it in pill form because I'm on the road for 5-6 days a week. I really don't have a lot of time to mix powders, shakes, etc.

After awhile, you get used to it; I don't think you ever learn to LIKE the taste, but it becomes not so bad.
 
I take it straight! Well, when I get E3live shots, I never get a chaser and they look at me like I am crazy. my best friend always says, " Anyone who drinks that junk doesn't deserve a chaser " ... lol.

Otherwise, I just take it in pill form, when I am using it. I prefer the E3 Live though.
 
i take chlorella capsules, so i don't have any taste issues. gah, now i'm tempted to add spirulina to the zillions of vits i already take. i'm not a pj, but i'm definitely becoming a vj. :grin:
 
Mine is in my shake- Fruitein Rainbow and I add psyllium husk powder to it to keep things 'moving'. I'm not one to use a blender so I get a shake cup, OJ and a 2 ice chunks (to agitate) shake it on my way out the door and drink it up!
 
I bought the powder and Ive only taken it 2 times.

it awfull I hvnt found a way to mask the taste - like what I envision day old fish poo wud taste like
