scalp acne and texturizer

Hello All,
My friends daughter has scalp acne and would like to know if it is okay for her to get a texturizer? She is currently natural and gets a press on occassion, but her hair is hard to comb and extremely time consuming and she wants something more manageable since braids break her out.

I don't think it would be a good idea because her scalp is already inflammed, and then she might get a scalp burn on an acne bump and I am sure that would be painful, is there a way to clear this up first?

I did have something similar when I was a teenager. I had acne around the nape and lower scalp area. I got a relaxer done, and ended up with this really bad boil, it was huge. this is gross, but it was blistering and oozing pus for a month. After that I got a bald patch that took over a year to grow hair. Treat the scalp first before putting any texturizer

ITA acne is an inflammation and it could also cause her to scratch/pick out of habit. I would not suggest it. I say stick to the presses until the acne clears up. The texturizer could just start another set of problems.

hey natural. i would ask your friend to take her daughter to a dermatologist before she puts anything in her her.

also, is she sure they are not bumps from braiding her hair too tightly?

Yes, ma'am she took her to the doctor and was told that she has scalp acne. Her daughter wants some chemicals really bad becasue she wants to wear her hair straight longer. She has not had braids in a long time and when she does get fake hair she breaks out from the fake hair also. This is sooooooo strange.

Wait until her scalp has healed and is normal. A relaxer will only make it worse and God forbid, result in actual hair loss.

If fake hair makes her break out then she can braid with real (bulk) extension hair. Maybe she could try some of the natural ways to relax curls like lime/coconut milk, yogurt mixes, baking soda co-washes, henna, clay treatments.

Probably wouldn't be good to try them all but I imagine that some of them (like the clay) would probably be really good for this situation.

ITA. At this point you should try to avoid anything that will irritate her scalp further. I would avoid all this like extensions, tight cornrows, false hair and use a mild shampoo and conditioner. Did the doctor prescribe her something?
