I know some people use clear rinses to seal the cuticle for shine. I used various reds from Jazzing without damage or shedding but when I upped the anty to semi perm color (black) my hair was like:nono:! I'm still shedding! The good thing about a rinse is that you can use it along with a relaxer - actually the color takes better because your shaft is open. The only sucky thing is that my hair would be a lil tangly until the next wash - it was kinda like when you use too much protein - that coated feeling?? Overall I liked the rinse though, I got many compliments on the color and it varied my usual look. Try it and if you don't like it stop using it. I doubt you would actually experience breakage and if you shed just use some garlic to correct it. I vote yes to giving the rinse a chance!Let us know how it goes!

Personally, no. I have never had a bad experience from using a rinse. I always use Jazzings Bluest Black and have never had any problems. In fact, I swear my hair feels a bit stronger after using it. BUT, my best friend/roommate had a VERY horrible experience with using rinses....or should I say ABUSING rinses. She started off with BSL hair...no exageration....she has had beautiful hair all her life (I used to be jealous). About 2 years or so ago she started using red rinses every week and leaving them on her head for hours and hours at a time. She used the blow dryer to make sure the rinses penetrated thoroughly. Her hair went from healthy BSL to barely shoulder length in one year. :nono: Now, I have to admit that I'm sure this wasnt the only culprit. She had started using relaxers every four weeks and I know for a fact that played a roll in her sudden hair loss. Its been at least 9 months since she stopped abusing rinses. Her hair is growing back but its extremely thin and lifeless. Her hair is now PERMANENTLY red after all that rinsing and she hates the color. :lachen:

I used jazzing just a clear one a couple of years ago, I tried my hair and I ended up with a little breakage. I used adore with now problems though.

wow all this time I thought rinses were like colored water, thanks op for getting the info! i havent tried a rinse since i've been natural, didnt have a problem then, but as a natural my hair is very sensitive to protein so i have to be wary of any product that contains it so i can keep my happy balance

Yes. I posted about my cousin's experience in another thread.

The stylist who did her hair used A rinse by Redken.

Her hair is still shedding pretty badly after several deep conditions. Her hair was so healthy or healthy looking before.:ohwell:

We're not sure if it's the stylists practices or the actual rinse itself....

I kinda hate it cause it was member from LHCF I recommended her to:perplexed

Depends on your hair type. I dye my hair sooo much. I use permanent, because rinses don't last for me, and my hair has never been damaged. Been dying it myself for 11 years.

eek that's kinda scurry lol. i admit i get a lil rinse happy sometimes lol....so thanks for this post.

i've used jazzings (sucked big time and dried my hair out something awful), adore (pretty good), sebastian colourshines (ok, not as good as i expected) and vitale (hands down the best in my opinion....)

i don't think i've really had bad damage from rinses though.

I am trying to lock down this breakage that I am experiencing. I think I got a little rinse happy with Jazzings. I used to rinse maybe every other week (eekkk!) So I'm laying off for a while and will try color showers when I get my next relaxer.

Does Robert Craig (kinda like Bigen) count?

I cannot be sure it was this product, but after using it and then relaxing my hair a few weeks later, I got some super breakage and hair loss.

That is the only thing I can think of that I did differently.
I think maybe it make the relaxer process faster than I am used to or something. Like it changed my hair's porosity.

All I know is that I am not touching it again.

I have not had problems with Jazzings, that Clairol Beautiful and Surya Henna cream. All of those were great - they just did not last long.

I use them all these brands all the time with no problem: Adore, BC, and ION

Now I just use the Ion.

I did notice that my hair felt weird when I used Jazzing before, so I don't use it anymore.

I used Jazzing and my hair felt really dry. I only used it where I gray in the front bangs. I also noticed that my hair seemed "stunted" in that area, so even though I deep conditioned my entire head afterwards I would say Yes, using a Rinse damaged my hair. This was almost a year ago now, and those bangs are long gone.

I also used Clairol Natural Black rinse about two months after the Jazzing experience and I really don't know, but my hair just seemed dry and fried until I STOPPED using a rinse. Now I just cover my gray with a cover stick. At least that washes out.

If I found a rinse that was non-damaging I would use it in a hot second!

I believe you are supposed to do a light protein treatment before using rinses or any semi-permanent or permanent colors on your hair to give it some protection before coloring. I don't have any issues with my rinses. I also follow the rinse with a mild reconstructor as well and then follow this by a moisturizing deep conditioner.

I've used Clairol Beautiful "jet black" in August and experienced major SHEDDING, & BREAKAGE :nono:. It wasn't the first time I've used it, but for whatever reason this time I used it and I'm still shedding -not as excessively but it's still there. I've used ADORE prior to that and that didn't cause any adverse effects. Now I'm just petrified to use any rinse until this shedding clears.

adore never gives me problems and i use it alot. i wouldnt say jazzing gave me problems but the color never came out right, never.

I'm telling ya'll for those of you that have had any damage with rinses try Color Showers. It is Olive Oil based and leaves your hair feeling really, really good. Sometimes I am very tempted to try something else that I can find in the stores, but I am more amazed by Color Showers each time I use it.

I've used rinses Adore,Color Showers,Clairol Beautiful Browns,Jazzing
I don't remember having any problems with the Adore or the Beautiful Browns but the Jazzing and Color Showers made my hair very dry and I had to clarify and do a series of deep conditioning treatments to get it to feel soft again

...I do like the range of colors that Color Showers has and it looks beautiful on the people that I've seen who have it ....After reading this thread If I decide to use that rinse again I will use the porosity control conditioner after to see if that will make a difference.

The stuff people did to my hair when I didn't know anything about hair care! I hardly did protein treatments when doing a rinse AND most certainly did NOT follow-up with a moisturizing DC. In fact the stylist I used to go to told me that I didn't need a DC after a rinse because it (the rinse) protects my hair. :nono:

As far as protein goes, oh man the horror. I remember that no DC was applied after AND they raked through my hair with a comb after they rinsed it out. They put Duo Tex at the roots and some Optimum DC on the hair and ends. Wow...

and I forgot to add that I had so much breakage in general that it's hard to tell if it's the rinse but my hair did feel 'stripped.' At the time I thought that meant that my hair was very clean LOL!

Hmmm, come to think of it, I need to apply some black rinse to my hair right now. I will be using Dudley's Regal Blue. I really like this rinse.
