I wonder if I am doomed to have a "weak spot" on my scalp that is prone to breakage. i just relaxed and it seems that even though I had new growth my hair isn't growing? I will post pics in the a.m. I'm at the "slaveyard" (work). Anyone else experienced this?

- frustrated and ready to cut all my hair off....

I have a 'weak' spot too.

And, honestly, it's not really weak. It's just - different from the rest. Here's a perfect picture of my 'weak' spot.

The black patch on the side is where all of my colored hair broke off, because the left side over my ear is my 'weak' spot.

Really, it's a spot of slightly different textured hair. A little coarser, a little stiffer, a lot more dependent on a lot of moisture, and a lot more likely to show damage if I let my hair get the least bit dry.

I keep that area up by insuring that when I DC, I start - and finish - there, so that I get more moisture applied there. When I do protein treatments, I try to make sure that I put the least there. When I'm detangling, I'm careful to be really gentle in that area - it just -takes more care.

Try to figure out whats 'different' about that section of your hair, and pamper those differences - that might help you get that area to grow and respond better. :yep:

I have "weak spots" on my hairline.

It's practically unnoticeable. Right above my temples, the hair is very fine and much softer than most of my hair. It doesn't grow very long. As a child it would sort of blend in with my eyebrow hair... it still does sorta. VERY fine hair.

My mother also has it... she's natural and hasn't seen a relaxer for about 2 years.

Genetics... funny stuff.

Now if it's noticeable and bald or something, I'd look into trying to do something to fix it.

I call mine a stress spot but it started about 10 years ago when I moved to the city. Broke off the left rear nape in one swoop. Cut it down and it broke the area on top of the area that broke. Sometimes it goes away, other times it moves. Currently, it has moved to the middle and it is a different texture, hard to moisturize, breaks at whim and stiffer like Just kiya said. It has shown great improvement since I have been megateking and keeping my hair in protective styles. I always give that area extra oil, conditioner, extra everything.

Just wanted to tell you that you are not alone. I once had a stylist who said just about every person has a weak spot somewhere on their head. Don't cut all of your hair off sweetie, just baby that area as best you can, maybe see a dermatologist if you can't get some relief.

I think every woman has an area that grows more slowly than every where else or is more prone to tangles/breakage. My area that's most prone to breakage is my crown (it tangles very easily) and the fronts of my hair grow more slowly than other areas on my scalp. If you notice weak spots all you can do is try to manipulate them as little as possilbe. You don't want to do anything that will cause them to break more. And make sure you're getting enough nutrients and protein in your diet and are doing DC treatments that focus on the protein/moisture balance of your hair. And wide-toothed combs help a lot when it comes to detangling.

OMG Kiya I thought I was the only one!!! Mine is at the crown. Girl the hair there squats down, hisses at me, and then gives me the finger. I'm in the process of growing that out now. It needs more moisture. ALOT more moisture.

thats exactly how and where mine is and I do the same thing. I have to slather it in products or it gets dry dry dry:perplexed

Yep, mine is at the crown of my head, too. I thought it was scab hair after I went natural, and I thought it was overprocessed when I was relaxed. Now I'm relaxed again and I know it just a different texture of hair that needs different treatment from the rest of my hair.

^ I hadn't put the "more moisture" thing together yet, thanks for the tip Ms Grass!

I think the crown is most peoples weak spots. I believe its the easiest breaking point of the hair...maybe it has something to do with it being the soft spot/the last part of our skull that hardens when we are babies.... Maybe. Thats just a guess.

I know thats the thickest nappiest part of my hair and I'm very gentle with it...

Mine is in the crown, it is getting better but the hair in that area is shorter coarser and harder than the rest of my head. It also breaks if I don't pay close attention to it. Right now it is doing really well.

^^^:funny:

My crown is the pits too. So coarse and not as thick as the rest of my hair. Every time I have bc'd it has been because of that hair breaking off and my mother has had the same problem. Hers has fallen completely out in the middle :nono: All the ladies in my family have coarser hair at the crown.

But ITA with the other ladies, I just give it extra moisture and care and I have to sleep with my hair in a loose ponytail to protect it or it will break of from my head rubbing back and forth on the pillow. I slept in a shower cap and dc'd overnight for a week and I thought that it was breaking in the middle because the hair was loose in the shower cap but after a good (gentle) detangling section I realized that the crown was just matted down. I treat it like a baby and pray that my coarse & crazy crown doesn't cause a set back for me.
