well I haven't seen anyhting calling it a "clarifying" shampoo but if it is a neutralizing shampoo and a chelating shampoo it must do something for build up.

chelating removes mineral deposits from the hair that come from no lye relaxers, hard water, swimming pools, etc.

Hhhmmmm, I’m wondering since EDTAs are chelating agents if when they are in leave in products they chelate by binding to mineral deposits in the hair which are then removed whenever the hair gets washed.

For me it doesn't clarify.

It has disodium EDTA. For it to clarify, the EDTA will have to be tetrasodium, from my understanding. Tetrasodium EDTA is stronger.

Even the label of the ORS says that with regular use it may help to remove build-up etc.

Those words alone, IMO, is ORS telling users that it's not an instant clarifying poo. That you will have to use it over a period of time in order to remove build-up.

Makes since to me. Thanks!

I hate to be the only one on my side, but it definitely clarifies as well.

Just look at the ingredients:

Water Aqua , Cocamidopropyldimethylamine Propionate , Trideceth-7 Carboxylic Acid , PPG-5-Ceteth-10 Phosphate , Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate , Ammonium Laureth Sulfate , Lauramide Glucoside , Lauryl Glucoside , Polyquaternium-10 , Cocoglucoside , Glyceryl Oleate , Disodiium EDTA , Olive Oil Olea Europaea , Cetrimonium Carboxydecyl , PEG-8 Dimethicone , Cetrimonium Chloride , Sulfated Castor Oil , Lecithin , Propylene Glycol , PEG-12 Oleate , Silicone Quaternium-2 , Panthenol Succinate , Fragrance Parfum , Aloe Barbadensis Gel , Glyceryl Polymethacrylate , Propylene Glycol , Polyquaternium-7 , Cocamide MEA , Glycol Distearate , Sodium Laureth Sulfate , Triethanolamine , DMDM Hydantoin , Methylparaben , Propylene Glycol , Propyl Paraben , Methylchloroisothiazolinone , Methylisothiazolinone , Green No. 3 Cl 42053 , Yellow No. 5 Cl 19140

That's a rather strong formula. If it wasn't a clarifying/chelating poo, then no one would use it as a moisturizing shampoo based on those ingredients.... with ALS as the 4th and 5th ingredients. It does clarify. I use it for my monthly clarifying treatment and it strips the hair. It doesn't leave your hair as dry as other clarifying shampoos.

That's a good thing imo. A shampoo doesn't have to be pure ALS to be clarifying.

That’s what I thought initially, that chelating is just a higher level of clarifying/stripping build up until I realized how chelating works. It’s not really a stronger/deeper way of stripping the hair of everything in general. Chelators bind specifically to mineral deposits which I guess makes them dislodge from the hair. So, if I’m correct, they don’t work by going above and beyond clarifiers in terms of stripping.

Now if ORS shampoo is clarifying, it’s because of the sulfates and I guess that’s where the debate on whether or not it’s clarifying comes in.
That's what I wanna know... I thought somebody had said before that a chelating shampoo does clarify but a clarifying one doesn't chelate? Wouldn't a chelating shampoo take care of both? :perplexed Now, I'm really confrused. lol

Thanks thats very good to know. That's exactly what I thought but I guess I was wrong. Learn something new every day. So now I STILL need to find a clarifying shampoo when I thought I found both with ORS.

Ok thanks. I guess I'll try Kenra clarifying poo since it does both.

That's what I use...and there's no guessing work. :nono::lachen:

I've heard about numerous debates with this shampoo. It's all too confusing.

I'm with Neith, it does clarify.

My hair was just generally misbehaving so I used it to clarify followed up with my joico system and airdried with my hair out- and I must say my hair has never been better.

IA I think this poo clarifies and chelates. Whenever I have buildup, this akes care of the job w/o a doubt.

There are many so called moisturizing poos with sulfates. The fact that a poo contains a sulfate is not what determines whether or not it's a clarifying poo.

I googled Tetrasodium EDTA. This is the ingredient I was referencing. I'm sure there are other ingredients which clarify but there are moisturizing poos with sulfates. The existence of sulfates is not an indicator.

I agree. The presence of sulfates does not necessarily make a shampoo clarifying. Sulfates can be clarifying but I suspect that it has to do a lot with concentration and perhaps other factors. Maybe some people consider it clarifying because they use products that don’t cause as much build-up as others.
