What did you do with your hair in college?

I'm a junior and all i do is rollerset lol. That way I can go a few days without doing anything major to it and it still looks cute enough to look like I put real effort into it. I haven't been to a salon since freshman year.

Cut it all off! :)

or (and this may be unpopular) go to places like master cut for wash and styles. Their prices are always listed, and sometimes (depending on the area and other cost of other beauty shops) it could be cheaper.

HTH!!!

I destroyed it LOL But seriously I have the type of hair that grows as long as I don't use chemicals or not that often so I would wash, condition, grease and ponytail or bun it. And my hair was fine. The few times that I did try to self perm back then I ended up killing my hair especially when I didn't have a perm for about 2 years and I permed my whole head. Oh that was bad......I went from about APL to above SL when my hair dresser cut it down.

im still in school(kinda) but when i first started my hair was bleached to no end and then rinsed fire red. you couldnt tell me nothing. i wore a press and curl in my hair all the time.

Ouch ScarletPhoenix! I really don't want to cut off my hair. I just BC'ed and newly natural and really can't afford to loose anymore hair. At college I usually wear extensions or some sort of weave of hairpiece. I don't do my hair as much but it's expensive if I don't get a friend to do it. I'm wearing my hair in braids right now. Maybe I'll try a roller set after I take them out.

1st year i cut it from SL to NL and colored it...it was very cute (and healthy cause i got it done right!). went broke from all that and started going to the cheap hair places. wtf
2nd year i went crazy...got an APL weave, then took it down and bleached my hair...wtf again
3rd year i got a really cute but damaging weave so i could avoid getting a relaxer, cut my hair somewhere right past EL cause of the damage, then grew it out. started getting dominican blowouts and began my transition.
just began 4th year and it has been WNGs so far (yeah, all 3 weeks right?!) but once it gets colder it will be ponytail rollersets, perhaps kinky twists again now that i know how to do them. MAYBE a weave now that i learned my lesson about going to the cheap places.

GOTTA preach the praises about learning to do your own hair! wow!!!

yup. here at school the hair cuttery is where all the good stylists work, believe it or not. (i'm not going to anybody's salon though.)

I'm still in college:yep: When I was relaxed last year I did rollersets, bantu knots, braidouts all the time (boring I know). Now that I'm natural I'm just going to do wash and gos until my hair gets a longer. My auntie is a hairdresser so if I ever need an emergency hairstyle I go to her (she doesn't charge me anything).

Exactly. My side hustle is hair on campus. I have had to perform CPR on some heads of hair b/c they didn't have a clue on what to do before they got to college. They were exclusively salon girls and got broke and the hair literally went down the drain :nono:.

Just wondering what the options are for people with "college student" salary.

In a nutshell..I jacked it up!! :perplexed:look: Was natural...got sick of frizzy hair---put a relaxer in my own hair---didn't use neutralizing shampoo to wash it out...just regular poo.
Ended up with a shaved head. :nono:
I'm going to get a fotki together one of these days so I can share my former hair woes.

NOW...after I got my hair shaved off, (cute Toni Braxton style).... I started going to a beauty college. It was GREAT!!!!
Give it a try!!

It's very cheap, plus if you find a really good student to hook you up on a regular basis, you're going to be set!! :yep: Rollersets/wash...etc..isn't expensive at all.

You can get really good cheap pedicures and stuff at these colleges also.....

Man when I first got to college I kept it in micros....bad idea. I never put grease on it. Never tied it down. Never washed or moisturized it, and never took care of it. By my soph. year, i had no edges whatso ever. Peeps used to say i had a receding hairline. I started getting wraps, but they were ugly on me because my hair was so friggin thin. Last year I joined the board and now I keep my hair in curly styles 24/7 or a bun

Doing all of your own hair care is a big money saver. The Family dollar is my best friend for products too. They have knock off herbal essence hello hydration now and I been clearing them out :lachen:

i stayed with a wash and go ...pre LHCF and had no idea that wash and go was what i was doing ..lol even in the dead of winter :yep:

In college my hair broke off. I just didn't know what I was doing and I don't think I used to DC :lachen: somehow I still managed to have halfway decent shoulder length hair most of the time.

Girl! Suffered, that's what I did. You are so lucky to have found hair boards at this stage of life. I think I'd be a totally different woman if I'd found them in college.

college is when I learned to braid....I was manipulating waaay too much, all in an effort to look cute....

The usual: pulling it out in frustration! :yep:

I went to a private school where there were at the most 15 students in a class, so I wasn't trying to impress anyone. There were like, 2 black guys there and my studies were more important than anything. I was relaxed then, and usually had my hair pulled back in a low ponytail.

this is my second year and i already realize that braids is my best bet. they're cute and sexy and go with everything. last year my hair did not budge in length and i wore it out a lot, used heat every weekend there was a party and my hair suffered.

i do my hair myself so it is less expensive to do my braids, perms, so on and so forth. i know a few people who get their hair braided or twisted every 2 or 3 months.

I got it done every other week at the salon. I usually got it washed, roller set, and flat ironed. About every 6-8 weeks a touch up (with PCJ) and a trim.

A whole bunch of crazy stuff to me like cutting it off and wearing my hair feathered (y'all remember that!), dying it and unfortunately making it dry/brittle and then going to the local beauty school so I could get it done for cheap. I had no idea of what to do with my hair. I really could have used LHCF way back in the day! :lachen:

My freshman year I wore my hair is Pixie braids or senegalese twist. My second year I was introduced to the dominicans via my roomate from NY. For the remainder of the time I wore my hair in rollersets and ponies.
