So yesterday I had a bright idea to... dye my hair with permanent blck. hair dye. The results look great but I when I did my roller set LOTS of small clumps would come out. And even more after I took out my rollers.

I left the dye in for about 20 minutes then did a deep conditioning..... what should I do? I just came back from the BSS with Mizani's Overnite treatement.

What should I do?? :wallbash:

I think you should do a protein treatment to strengthen your hair, followed by a deep conditioning.

Yeah I believe that you should do a protein treatment followed by a deep moisturize treatment and that should get you back to where you were. Sometimes the ammonia and things in permanent dye harm our hair a bit

Hi Charlotte, I just did this about 2 month ago after a 4 yr hiatus from permanent hair dye. my hair would always break at the crown area only and when I stopped using perm dye, that breakage stopped. well the rinses were not getting it and in 2 weeks it would always look like it did prior to putting the rinse in. after this session of perm dye I deep cond with moisturing conditioner to get the balance back. then the next wash I did the same with the aphogee 2 min cond. also I've been moisturizing my hair daily and doing cowashes. I found that I needed to make sure added the balance back with a touch of protein but mostly moisture. so far so good. No breakage.

eta: I wanted to add that I've used heat only once in two months and have been a short haired bunning gal.

Yes you need a protein treatment like the ladies suggested, followed by another deep conditioning treatment.

You would be surprised how harsh black perm dye can be for the hair. People assume that because the hair is being darkened as opposed to lightened (bleach) that it won't have much of an effect on their hair but it can.

Dye is really harsh. Is your hair dry? Could you tell us a little bit more about it?

ITA with the ladies. But like Duff said just a light protein treatment followed by a moisturizing deep conditioner.

ok if you wash your hair with shampoo right after you dye it, doesn't that take the dye out? i've never seen hair dye that says to use neutralizing or other shampoo after dying

OT:

Noir I love your eye make up!!!

Me too!

OP, next time DO A PATCH TEST WOMAN!!!!!

You don't have to use a neutralizing poo. Light poo or poo for hair color is good enough and quite frankly better because you don't want to strip the color right back out.

Thanks ladies for all your responses!

My hair is actually not dry all - the ends seem to be a bit damaged even after the Dominicans gave me a trim....... I have not yet did a protein treatment but the Mizani Overnite treatment seemed to help alot...... Protein here I come!

Any recommendations for protein treatments?

I like Aphogee Treatment for damaged hair as a no joke protein treatment...the best bar none, tho I think it comes in a two step now. All you need is the stuff that hardens as it sits on your hair and smells evil while doing it, but nothing's better. That'll fix you up right away..it'll stop breakage in it's tracks. YOU HAVE TO USE A MOISTURIZING CONDITIONER AFTER USING THIS as the directions say (I think that's part of the twin pack). I yell this because if you don't, you're breakage will be out of sight....a moisturizing condish will fix it up no problems. Your hair will feel like silk after this treatment and moisturizing condish.

When you say your hair is falling out, do you mean it's breaking off OR that it's falling about by the root (ie w/ bulbs on the end)? What kind of dye did you use?

I used Patene - Relaxed and Natural Hair dye, (Silken Black).

In the small clumps i did not notice any bulbs. Which would be worse breaking from the root or breaking off mid?

Did you have any split ends before you did the color? That may have been part of the problem.

^^^ OK, it would be worse in this case if it had bulbs (ie was coming out at the roots). So far it's only breakage...not great news, but it can be fixed easily. Go get the Aphogee at any BSS and a moisturizing condish. If you're not sure you have one, a $1 bottle of Suave Naturals will fit the bill. You'll have to handle your hair gently and use a moisturizing condish for about 6 wks. You shouldn't use the Aphogee any more often than 6 wks.

If it were coming out at the roots, you'd have serious problems, so be thankful. If that happened, it might indicate that you had scalp damage..at present it's only hair damage which is easily fixable.

After colouring I DEFINITELY always use a neutralising shampoo before DC-ing. For a final rinse I use Roux porosity Conditioner for about 3-5 mins. My hair is a light/medium brown

Wouldn't the neutralizing poo strip the color off of the hair?

Neutralizing poo is best to use after a chemical service has been used on your hair. It has an acid-ph balance. Using neutralizing poo or acidic rinses after a chemical service will close the cuticle layer and keep the color from fading. Alkaline poos is what you don't want to use. they tend to remove the color faster. They open up the cuticles making it easier for the color to wash out. Dyes and semi permanent color re-opens the outer cuticle. People tend to lose their hair when these outer layers are not closed back down.

If the hair had bulbs at the ends.......wouldn't they be considered shed hairs?? Unless there was a WHOLE LOT........

If you hair is shedding and all else fails, try the Alter Ego Cren scalp drops. Worked a miracle for me after a self-relax gone bad incident.

Personally I don't know of any remedies that you can use to stop breakage that's caused by a bad relaxer or dye job..You might be able to temporary stop breakage by using Aphogee but I don't believe it can fix anything...

Well it doesn't have to be a whole lots to indicate scalp damage under the circumstances she's talking about. I asked because she said her hair is "falling out". I wanted to figure out if it was breakage or coming out from the scalp. Sometimes a chemical treatment gone wrong can bring out the hair from the scalp itself! :perplexed That can be VERY bad news!

Under normal circumstances (ie w/o chemical treatments) the amount of sheds a person has varies greatly, but if she'd had hair coming out from the roots AFTER this treatment, that might indicate scalp damage. Thank goodness that wasn't the case here.

Nothing "fixes" anything permanently except scissors, this I agree w/. What Aphogee will do is stop the immediate breakage, so it can stop the problem from becoming worse via the chemically weakened hair.

What this does is buck up the hair that has weakened, but not yet broken off. If you want to stop the problem short of scissors (and I assumed she didn't want a cut) this is the best route to go.

Anyway, it's worth a try and may suit her needs.
