Relaxed heads- ever roller set your hair...

I have before and my hair came out light and fluffy. I liked it a lot, but I felt the need to add something afterwards (a serum) to give it a little shine. Now I just rollerset with only the serum on wet hair and I love the results. My hair is never weighed down.

My hair turned out a wee bit puffy... but as the day went on, I lost some of the shape to my curls and I had to do a ponytail the next day. The curls didnt hold and my hair wasn't shiny... I don't know HOW those salons do it...

The few times I roller set my hair without setting lotion the curls didn't hold very firmly. As a natural, I wouldn't even bother to roller set w/o setting lotion - that would be a waste of my time.

It has a lot of body very bouncy and light. My hair is that way anyway but it's like all extra with it. Everyone could smell the conditioner I used from washing. I actually liked it better that way. But I feel like I need to put something on it. Paranoid lol.

with no setting products? How did your hair turn out?

By setting products do you mean stuff like Lottabody? Or just any product in general with 'holding' properties?

I don't use setting lotions ever. Only leave-in con, maybe 3-5 drops of oil, and cold water to set my hair. My hair comes out bouncy, with some shine and a bit of heaviness. The heaviness isn't like greasy heavy, but more like I just got a good flat-iron on well-moisturized hair. Don't really know how to describe the heaviness that well. Sorry if that didn't answer your question!

Sorry I haven't figured out how to put my pictures up for viewing but I just did a roller set after a leave-in conditioner. I put a little evco on the ends as I rolled up each section. My hair was soft, shiney and moveable.

I have 4b hair and when I use just water, the curls only last two days... I need a serum and some setting lotion for the body, bounce.

I actually prefer to rollerset with just leave in condish. Thats it! During the week with all the stuff I add to the hair and scalp, I don't like adding anything to the hair. I never use setting lotions or any of that stuff.

Yes...most of the time, I just add a little leave-in (Giovanni) conditioner and set with plain water. I sometimes use a serum, but honestly, I see no real difference when I do. I love the way my hair turns out. My siggy pic shows the finished results of a rollerset on small rollers.

By the way, your hair is lovely.

A few times I have. The sets came out the same, but the hair is much softer. If the weather is humid I wouldn't even bother going without setting lotion, if I am setting at all.

I prefer a light setting lotion of some sort, because the idea of all that work is to get the curls to set in and stay a while.

I do not like using setting lotion because it makes my curls hard and crunchy. I like to use a little leave in (lacio-lacio) for shine and softness.

Exactly the same. I don't use much product on my hair anyway so I doubt it actually made a difference

Same thing I do. I always wrap my hair after taking the rollers out so I could have the straight bouncy look, that would not work if you use setting lotion.

I don't use the lotion, it leaves it all crunchy. Although yesterdays curls dropped a little today, I just pincurl it overnight and it's fine.

great question...I just use leave in cond. and water to re-wet as I am rolling... my hair turn out nice, but a little dry looking so I have to add some oil to it...but I like it better without the products...

I only use leave in and distilled water to rewet the hair when setting. My hair always comes out soft and bouncy this way. I did put some CHI Silk over my LTR leave in yesterday, it was the same...soft and bouncy :look:

I have to use something when I rollerset my hair. I usually use CHI serum and maybe leave in conditioner. I don't use too much product, although I always want to, because it weighs my hair down and will cause build up

Yep.:yep: A few times with leave-in conditioner and seal my wet ends with EVOO. It actually turns out pretty well. All I want is slight body anyway, I don't care about style. HTH

I use black tea as a final rinse but I don't put anything on my hair after that process. After roller setting, my hair is awesome! I love the way my hair feels. Soft, light, sheen. It does not have my hair "fluffy." I am doing the tea rinse for the rest of my life, lol.

I have done it, but w/o the setting lotion, as the PP have stated, the set is just way too soft for my taste. Adding extremely diluted Keracare Setting Lotion, makes the curls last, and it is never crunchy. I also use Lacio Lacio, or Nexxus' Headress Leave In and Chi Silk Infusion before setting my hair.

I don't use setting lotion anymore. I don't like what it does to my hair (does not react well, especially on my ends), or my style. I used to like my roller sets to look crisp, but now I prefer having them look light.

I just deep condition well (and sometimes use some grapeseed oil for the set - because it doesn't get hot until higher temps - or on rare occasions, a leave in) after doing anything else my hair needed, like an ACV rinse or protein treat or something, and oil my ends with an oil.

I don't use setting lotions b/c they make the hair crunchy! I've done it with magnetic rollers and water and it came out just fine. But I tend to like using my NTM moisturizer and my Aphogee green tea keratin spray applied all over freshly washed hair and a water bottle full of water and I get glossy curls.

When I roller set I typically use only Keracare leave-in, Mizani serum and water to re-wet and my hair turns are soft, shiny & curly... I have recently tried adding a little setting lotion by Mizani and it leaves my hair heavy... I will stick with water only. My stylist uses setting lotion and I love the way it turns out too.

I use a little bit of leave in, and my water bottle has just a couple of drops of castor oil. This usually gives me soft bouncy curls.

I have roller set without any leave in at all, my hair was very light and the curls were nice, but I can only get away with that on recently relaxed hair. No point even attempting that when I'm months post relaxer.

9/10 out of ten I will use just some serum, water and keracare essential oils. Sometimes I will use a very weak setting lotion solution instead of plain water.

Results are in my avatar. I never leave it curly, I always wrap it after a set.
