I've always assumed that rinses were non damaging.

In another thread more than one person experienced shedding/breaking/negative affects from using rinses.

If you did have a bad reaction, what brands did you use?

I'm rethinking my use of rinses a little bit :scratchch

I experienced a lot of shedding when I used Clairol Beatiful Collections Jet Black...BUT I admit, I mixed a little Jazzing Blue Black in it so I'm not sure which one actually caused the shedding. Once I washed my hair (and did a light protein) that first week after the rinse, the shedding stopped.

Several years ago a lady on here used Jazzings and had severe breakage, I remember it just kind of broke my heart because she had been having such wonderful progress. I want to color or rinse so bad but I am scared, I would be devastated to have a terrible setback.

Hmmm, that makes me think that the Jazzing was the culprit.:yep:

I've used the red Jazzing (in the past) with no shedding. Maybe there's something in the Blue Black that my hair doesn't agree with.

I used jazzing before and I did experience a little shedding, but no major damage. I don't like it that much.

I used clairol beautiful too... with better results, but I didn't know it was damaging. I thought rinses were the safest things to do!

I use both Jazzings and Clairol Beautiful Collection with no problem. I make sure I do a good DC after because the rinse usually leaves my hair feeling dry and sometimes tangled, but never any significant shedding; never any damage.

I think "most" people don't have any problems. But man when that lady had that experience it just stuck with me I think because her hair history was so similiar to mine.

i ticked yes but it was reversable.i used Dark and Lovely Color Flash it's in this mousse thing and it dryed the heck out of my hair and the colour did show but it looked my rusty more than cranberry or what ever it wasso suppose look like and it took away my shine.
.the colour bleed for days and my hair was soooo dry don't use that one.

manic panic is kick ass it didn't dry out my hair and my hair looked soooo black it willl stain floors and clothes but my hair is black and it didn't affect how my hair normally feels.i justed used manic panic yesterday and if i do to the tango with semi permanent colour it will be that one

i never had any probs with them. Some i find more softening than others. But i never had a prob with it. sometimes i may dc before or after the rinse depends on how my hair feels. Rinses can mess up ur porosity sometimes without even knowing. But other than that i never had a prob. I think it may have to do with how ur hair reacts to them...or the state of ur hair before u put the rinse on.

jazzing sucks so bad. i never experienced shedding but my color never came out right, never. i use and love ADORE. i use it all the time now(im on a jet black kick) with no ill effects.

Never had any negative expreriences with rinses. In fact, I still get them probably twice a year. Can't remember the name of the brand I use though. It's a brown almost see-through bottle with a cream label. It's being discontinued right now and my hairstylist is MOST pissed.

now im scared to use jazzing. i love the smell of and used to use it when my hair was a mess. but now im not so sure

not at all. my hair seems alittle HEALTHIER when i use it. I've been using clairol natural intincts midnight black for years. In fact i just did it a few weeks ago and everyone has been telling me how shiny my hair is and how defined my curls look.

It's been a long time since I've used one but I do recall my hair being dry, not necessarily breakage. I too wanted to put one in because I did not want to dye during summer months, but am afraid of drying. Actually the only brand I've ever tried is Jazzing. What other brands are out there that people recommend?

OMG if you hadn't mentioned this I would have never known that was the source of my problem. I used the Clairol Beautiful Collection Jet Black before I went on vacation, and I started experiencing a heck of a lot of shedding.

Before I got it done, I didn't have that problem. I didn't even have breakage issues either. I've been so worried that I've suffered a serious setback because everytime I cowashed and combed through my hair globs of hair started combing out. If I put my hair in a ponytail and tug a little at the ends, I can pull out a lot of strands. :nono: They're really long strands with the bulb attached. I've never experienced that before. I'm getting my hair straightened today, and I'm really worried that I might have to trim a little more than expected because my hair has thinned out some because of the shedding.

I have never experienced damaged hair from using a rinse...and I've used them for years. I apply it every 8 weeks, right after a relaxer touchup. Sometimes, I retouch sooner, if I see some grays tryna show up. As a previous poster stated, my hair actually feels healthier after using it; probably because KISS does contain protein. For that reason, I followup with a moisturizing DC. Afterwards, my hair feels strong and soft.

I formerly used Clairol Beautiful in Black, but for the last several years, I've used KISS Express in Black. I changed rinses becasue the KISS lasts longer on my hair than the Beautiful.

I used that Dark and Lovely mousse stuff before and had the same results. :nono: A hot, dry mess!! My hair was brittle and breaking no matter what. I had to stop using any sort of color at all. Just never worked for me. Now, I use Colorshowers from roundbrushhair.com and I love it!!! No problems!!

I always used KISS and it is non dmaaging to my hair. Actually, it has always felt better. It did worry me though because one time when I used it, all my newgrowth disappeared. It looked like I had jsut gotten a fresh relaxer. It was jet black, straight, and healthy!

I've done cellophanes for about 6 years now w/no adverse effects. Some rinses are considered protein and that may explain some of the dryness, tangling and shedding that some have experienced. After rinsing out my cellophane, I always wash w/a moisturizing poo to get the color off my scalp and hair line then DC w/a moisturizing conditioner. No problems w/shedding, tangling or anything. I've used Sebastian, Kiss (clear only), and Color Showers (staple). I've used Jazzing in the past when Sebastian was first discontinued and before I knew about Color Showers and I hated the smell and the results. Jazzing sucks butt so if you have the option of trying another brand, I'd suggest doing so.

I don't use this brand for the same reason... My hair always felt dry/brittle after using this brand. I like Elasta QP and Adore:yep:

The darker colors of Clairol Beautiful Collection makes my natural hair feel kinda dry but the lighter colors level 4 and up arent bad. When I was relaxed clairol made my hair feel silky after a touch up. Never tried it with out a touch up though.

I only do the clairol rinse in the front/top of my hair, it is a little drier for a little while but coconut oil and shea butter takes care of it

Rinses tend to be higher in pH than your scalps natural pH. It is important to thoroughly rinse and equalize your pH after using rinses, otherwise, it can cause scalp irratition and shedding. Rinses are very much like mild protein treatments so if your hair is already borderline protein overload...rinsing at that time might not be what you want to do.

I used Adore clear last friday and followed the directions. I shampooed and DC after applying it and used my leave in and serum before i went under the dryer. I dried under the Pibbs in defined sections and then flat ironed. My hair felt like it was sticking together and I could barely get my fingers through it it was so tangly, dry and sticky. It worked my nerves so bad because of the brittleness and breakage I clarified on Tuedsay and DC with ORS Replenish and it feels much better. I can't tell I even used the Adore.

My ?? is did I do something wrong that caused for the stickage in my hair? That had never happened to that degree before. I even tried using Mango butter to add some moisture but nothing helped or stopped the breakage. Was it the flat iron? (ceramic, no oil until afterwards) and it wasnt that high but if I want my hair to be flat it needs heat. I flat ironed only 1x this month and 1x last month and not since April before that. Sigh...any ideas ladies?

Jazzing, Adore, Beautiful (Clairol), Brights N Lights -all reviewed in my color album- caused dryness and breakage. It took a couple of good DCs to get things back to normal. :nono:

Tore my head up. It made my hair dry, brittle, breaking, splitting, thinning. Ter Ri Ble

I tried cheap rinses, I tried more expensive rinses and they all messed my hair up. I just have sensitive hair I guess
